Fic Update: The Phoenix Mockingjay Outtakes (Hunger Games Trilogy AU)

The Town I Loved So Well. An extended scene from Chapter 3 of Songs of War: Although she hasn't yet agreed to be the Mockingjay, Katniss travels to District 4 to support her successor victor, Lars, as he faces the aftermath of the Capitol's attack on the island where he grew up.

Question for Readers: I've been toying with some ideas for similar scenes in which other rebel victors (both canon and OC) visit their homes and witness the aftermath of Snow's retaliatory strikes. Would there be interest in reading more like this? (Katniss wouldn't be present for those.)

Fic Update: Songs of War (Hunger Games Trilogy AU)

Songs of War: Sequel to Favors. AU of Mockingjay. The Second Rebellion erupts after destruction of the 76th Hunger Games arena and rescue of the tributes, but some of the victors and the rebel victors’ families are in the Capitol’s hands. Katniss, Haymitch, their fellow victors, and loved ones from home all struggle to make a difference in the chaos and pain of war and keep their eyes on the goal of true freedom and justice for the Districts. And even though it’s been two years since Peeta suicided in the 74th arena to hand her the crown, Katniss still has him to lean on.

Chapter 3: Give and Take. The victors reel from seeing the Capitol's hostages and struggle to rally with more propos of the destruction in District 4 and District 7, with Katniss accompanying her successor victor to the ruins of his home. Returning to District 13, the victors commiserate with those whose loved ones are in Capitol hands and Katniss conspires with Prim and Madge to set terms on her service as Mockingjay to protect those still trapped under the Capitol's control. But as the dueling narratives between the Capitol and Rebellion grow, so does Snow's retaliation.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t you have a story where Madge and Katniss were a thing? You always updated on Sundays? Maybe I’m remembering it wrong.

No, that's not me, sorry! Madge and Katniss grow platonically close in my stories Favors, Four Summer Days, and Songs of War (all part of my series, The Phoenix Mockingjay), but not a relationship.

Sounds like you may be looking for a different story and author altogether - I never had a particular update schedule either. Hope you're able to find it! (There are many variants of the username Jocelyn on FF.net and AO3, so maybe you're thinking of someone who had numbers or other letters added?)

ALERT: My Harry Potter Fanfics Are Coming Down on Sunday, June 1, 2025

As most know, I am Jocelyn on FF.net and also Jocelyn on AO3.

In light of J.K. Rowling's continued and inexcusable open and downright gleeful anti-transgender activism, I've made the heartbreaking decision to delete all my Harry Potter fanfics.

On my conscience, I can no longer participate in the fandom or do anything that encourages or inspires others to consume any of Rowling's content. Buying the books and films, renting or streaming the films or the upcoming TV show, buying the merchandise all puts money into Rowling's pocket that she uses in turn to fund anti-transgender legislation efforts and anti-transgender harassment activities.

If you want to download and save yourself a copy, please do so quickly, but I beseech all my readers to avoid purchasing or renting any content or merchandise from any of Rowling's works.

I'm saving copies of all the reviews pages for myself, making myself cry reading them.

You mean Songs of War? It is updated now! I apologize for the 9-month wait for an update. Real Life was giving me a lot of curveballs and I was very overwhelmed for a while, so it's taken time to overcome the writer's block. But I've finally managed to put out an extra-long update today! (And there's lots more Madge in this chapter!)

Chapter 2: Ante Up. Katniss struggles with the implications of being the Mockingjay as soldiers, victors, and propo-makers quarrel over how hard to pressure her, and Madge and other survivors of District 12 ponder their own roles in the Second Rebellion. Katniss visits District 12 with Madge, Gale and Rory, and Peeta's brothers to discover Snow has left her a calling card amid the bones and ashes. Next, the rebel victors are horrified by the Capitol's next counter-attack: proof that many of their missing fellow victors and loved ones are hostages in Capitol hands.
