Ok so you know how Arrow is ending later this year/early next year with it’s 8th season 10 ep arc? 

well a must it has to do, for justice purposes, is in the crossover arc with the other superhero shows it has to make olivarry canon in someway (no sad ending) bc on Earth 1 olicity and westallen is canon, in Earth X SuperArrow is canon (idk their actual ship name) and in Elseworlds, to an extent, ‘Barry’ and Felicity is canon and ‘Oliver’ and Iris are canon (REMEMBER that is to an extent that you play by the actor’s main role and not their role in that crossover) so for fairness it has to make Oliver and Barry canon, to some extent.

Well why dont fic writers do the same? Like it can be intentionally half finished and they can see what different ideas their audience comes up with OR post WIPs too! or it can be a multi fic-ed (i.e 3 chapters) and then someone can write a finishing chapter or add on 3 more chapters OR OR it can be multiple ‘finish my fic’ ideas - someone (person A) writes, say, 2 chapters then leaves it as a ‘finish my fic’ idea then another person (person B) comes and adds another or more chapters then leaves it and one more person (person C) finishes it with however many chapters (and so forth)
