Good Friday--Easter 2025
What language shall I borrow to than thee, dearest friend, for this thy dying sorrow thy pity without end? O make me thine forever; and should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never out live my love to thee. --From Bach's Passion Chorale

A Collect Of The United Methodist Church
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace. So, clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you, for the honor of your name. Amen.

We Make A Difference
From an article from The Upper Room Journal, this quote found on a card in a Nashville, TN church pew.
The World is better because you are in it. It needs your smile and your laughter Your honesty and your heartbreak. Your hurdles and your triumphs. It needs everything you are and everything you will be. The world needs you. Your friends and family need you Tomorrow needs you.
Many thanks to Rev. Jeff Campbell who used it in a devotion.

Telling The Same Story
Should we ever tire of telling the same story? The Story of Jesus Christ
From a book by Richard Lischer, The End of Words
When the adopted child repeatedly asks her parents to recount the events surrounding her adoption, the story must remain the same. And woe to the one who introduces omissions or changes the sacred formula “And then out of all the babies in the orphanage you chose me, right?” Could parents ever tire of telling that story. Would they ever dare substitute another for it?
If telling God’s story strikes us as repetitious, that is because it is. it is repetitious the way the Eucharist is repetitious is repetitious, the way a favorite melody or gestures of love are repetitious, the way the mercies of God come unbidden every day are repetitious… Such stores do not entertain, they do something far better. They sustain. They do not inform, they form those who share and hear them for a life of faithfulness.

Joy, revealed
Learn the discipline of being surprised not by suffering but by joy. As we grow old … there is suffering ahead of us, immense suffering, a suffering that will continue to tempt us to think that we have chosen the wrong road. … But don’t be surprised by pain. Be surprised by joy, be surprised by the little flower that shows its beauty in the midst of a barren desert, and be surprised by the immense healing power that keeps bursting forth like springs of fresh water from the depth of our pain.
—Henri J.M. Nouwen, Finding My Way Home: Pathways to Life and the Spirit (Crossroad, 2004).

Success
Live neither in the past nor in the future, but let each day’s work absorb all your interest, energy and enthusiasm. The best preparation for tomorrow is to do today’s work superbly well
