        HE TRIES HIS  best  ,  really he does  ,  but it’s practically inevitable with the way lexa dramatically drapes herself over her couch as he sets up their chess board.  a SNORT escapes him  ,  lips curling up into an amused smirk.   “   that’s for damn sure.   ”   eyes soften though at the look on her face.  he remembers the feeling  ,  now faded with time.  clarke could bring anyone to their knees.  another pause as he finishes setting up and eyebrows are pulled together  ,  the air between them shifting.   “   hey - being in love doesn’t make you weak  ,  lexa. i don’t care what the previous commanders say  ,  alright   ?   i say that love is probably the strongest thing that someone can have.   ”   features relax back into a smile as he settles into his seat more fully.   “   i’m really happy for you guys.   ”

        HIS RAMBLING IS  cut off by a firm grip on his shoulder and three words that soothe the building pressure in his chest.   “   thank you  ,  lexa.   ”   skaikru was difficult and apprehensive and their leaders could be questionable  ,  but wells could attest that they meant well for their people.  he didn’t want everything they’d been building toward with the coalition going to waste because of poor choice of actions and words but while he was incredibly honored that lexa asked him to be their ambassador  ,  he wasn’t sure he was cut out to do any good.   “   i promise you we didn’t mean any harm.   ”   we.  always carrying the blame for things he had no part in.   “   skaikru is learning about the way the ground works. there will be a few mistakes but they want peace just as much as you or i.   ”
