She holds her tongue, but her angry heart blazes hotter than the glass-furnace. The sand she grinds and sifts and colors is as much a medium as her own flesh was; the melting and molding and shaping is the same. All her life she has crafted impeccable wares, for which she is justly renowned. But her greatest work has been sent from her without a farewell: he is weaving his way South into the Darkness, into the flames. She draws the glass, rolls the molten cylinders, pulls the edges. Chants: May he be tempered, not broken. May he not burn.

dís, sister of thorin, daughter of thrain! i associate a lot of raven motifs with the line of dúrin, and that they have a special relationship. the ravens of ravenhill are an ancient breed, noble and intelligent enough to understand mortal tongues. here dís is dancing with two of röac's children after the battle of five armies, finding respite in the ravens even during her grief.

inspired by the fanfic Echoes in Stone by @lotusspocuss (go check it out!)

Disclaimer: I just went by vibes and memory, I did absolutely no research in general nor in the fanfic, so if his appearance is inaccurate I apologize.

More details below:

A - I thought Kili had a half up half down style when I started this, while I have since discovered that was false, it is now my head-canon and this part and those braids are in part reference to Kili and/or Dis

Blonde hair is similar to Fili

B- The beard braid is very common in dwarves and not exclusive to Fili, but in spirit it’s a way to connect. He also has a similarly short beard to Fili because I think they are about the same age physically - this is also why I drew him on the younger side

C and D - these are similar to Thorin’s Braids but they differ in the source and they are in Frerin’s “style” - they look like basic braids because that’s all I know how to do right now.

Overall I wanted his hair to be similar to his family (Also bc he died young and wouldn’t have had many opportunities to gain braid-worthy accomplishments)

E- he wears Durin Blue and his clothing is overall very wealthy and rich (with gold stitching on his shirt) as he was still in Princely Clothes when Smaug came

F - he had a green shirt and a little red vest-thing because that’s Bilbo’s colors

G -this is a little headcanon of mine (it might be more popular, I know the tattoo one is) that dwarves, especially royalty, have lots of piercings and gold or other rare metal and jewel embellishments on their body. (But since most dwarves have been on the road so long it’s a luxury)

H- I am a strong strong supporter of the Ugly Thorin head canon and I think Thorin and Frerin got the same sharp nose and silky hair.
