“Africa Has Never Seen Craziness Like This Before”- Prologue

I know, right? Why would anyone in this (possibly) God-given Earth even want to hear another generic story about yet another chronically sad teenager? Why should anyone care that I, Didi Nyasha, a 16-year-old from suburban South Africa, have been officially declared “Chronically Unhappy” by a psychiatrist? 

No one. 

Because being diagnosed with Clinical Depression nowadays is as common as having gotten cosmetic surgery done: people talk about it in hushed tones, romanticise it, and go right back to their daily lives. As if an entire living, breathing human being did not just disclose to you that they have lost the ability to feel happiness, to feel any sense of fulfilment or motivation to succeed and grow. They are devoid of being able to rejoice in the very things that give us joy; that make us human. 

Who cares anymore? Every one’s sad. Just pop your anti-depressants and keep moving.

Oh, and don’t kill yourself. Mom will be sad.
