For my professional stretch quest, I decided to volunteer and apply for jobs in the field of communications, something I haven't done before. Going into this was about a 2/5 for comfort (being fairly uncomfortable). One of the jobs I applied for asked for an online portfolio, and I put one together the best I could. The other one was a volunteer position where you get voted in by the club members to be an executive which is fairly nerve racking. Although frightening, this experience taught me to always just try because you never know will happen. So far I have gotten positive feedback regarding my portfolio, and have received great support from the club members already regarding the volunteer position. I hope they do evolve into something, but if not, at least I know I tried!
Looking back at the experience I would say it was a 3/5 on the scale, although not as challenging as I thought, it still took a lot to get me out there and I am still nervous about it.

To fulfill my physical stretch quest, I decided to start eating Vegan! It was something I have always been interesting in exploring, but thought of it as a challenging task due to my love for cheese, and thought it would make eating a significantly more difficult task. Going into the change of diet, I rated it a 4/5 of the comfort scale, and was filled with doubts if I could even last a few days… but I have lasted and have been keeping it up :)
What I realized through this experience was that, it wasn’t my own craving or motivation that was holding me back, it was the judgments of other people. I found meal planning and food consumption very comfortable and I didn’t miss any of the foods I would normally eat.  The most difficult part about the quest was the judgments from others about my lifestyle choice. Although I didn’t explicitly tell anyone I was changing my diet, I received comments such as “do you even eat meat...?”, and other judgmental inquiries I didn’t think I would be as affected by as I was. I suddenly realized how many people make fun of vegetarians and vegans, even though the ones I have met are extraordinarily caring individuals.
Because of these judgments, I would say it was a 2/5 on the discomfort scale. Through the experience, I realized how our society can be concretely set in old ways and many individuals are quick to judge another before reflecting on their own practices. But to each their own, and I am glad I could come out of my shell and open my mind to new ways of life, and physically, I feel fantastic!

“Other & Mud”
left: the word mud is depicted as its contrasting meaning-- clean and clear aka “other mud”
right: the word mud was designed to look dirty and gooey like mud itself and “other” is embedded in it showing a contrast in colour and typography-- illustrating an other idea

Different 20 items that somehow change the meaning of Valentine’s Day
Metaphor
Contrasts with previous valentines day knoll as it shows the meaning of the day through a different light. Objects such the makeup, alcohol, condom and money stand for metaphors about what some believe to be the underlying messages within valentine’s day.

For my social stretch quest I signed up for a 3 day workshop offered on the MRU campus called “Stepping Up” - where topics of sexual violence in dating and relationships were the main focus. Most of the participants were social work students who signed up for the practicum hours, but I went purely due to my love and work in the field of mental wellness - and also saw it as a great stretch opportunity.
This workshop occurred over the weekend and mainly included discussion-based modules to raise our own awareness of these issues and share our own stories. Due to this, I had to push myself out of my introverted bubble and learn to speak up, which I do not normally do in many settings. Because I tend to not like speaking or sharing my thoughts in front of many people and due to the fact that this was a completely new experience for me and I did not know what to expect- I would rate this a 4/5 on the comfort scale.
Evaluating my experience, I would change my rating to a 2/5. Although I was uncomfortable, it was amazing to hear stories of others and share my own ideas and experiences. I felt my opinions were very valuable, which was pressuring, but also reassuring when I brought points to the group which were highly received.
Stepping up was a great way to socialize with amazing people who are looking to make a beautiful difference in the world and was a great educational exercise which helped me get out of my bubble.

Week 4- 20 items that mean something to you about Valentine’s Day
Space
Composition of photo plays with the idea of space as all objects are close together, and confined in one corner or the image, leaving an abundance of white space to display the light, romantic background.
