A few moments after I took these silly selfies, I started down the street. A woman was walking across the street, we make eye contact. I smile, wave, and get out a perhaps inaudible, "Hi." She stopped in her tracks. Turned around and was talking to me. I couldn't hear what she was saying because I had my headphones in, I take them out and say, "I am sorry, what was that?" The look on her face changed. She followed up with, "Oh. I just...I thought you were a boy." All I managed to get out was, "That's okay." ...messing with people's perceptions can be fun...it can be liberating and revelatory. Then it can be fucking scary. Especially if someone feels the need to assert their masculinity. But other times it is disheartening. So...I have been hesitant to post a photo of just my body since I have begun training. Mostly because I place greater value in functional goals in my training over aesthetic goals. Today, functional goals were met. I am also having some body love issues because I have not been training the way I would want to as of late. Seems like an appropriate way to combat that... Also, for every single person who has said to/asked me, "Oh shit! You're a vegan!
