Kirk ran his hand over his face. “It’s hardly politics, Aiden. Politics is an arranged marriage with the Vampires. This is…” He didn’t know and he couldn’t think. He groaned, tired and unhappy. He wanted to be a child again and have his nanny comfort him. “I don’t know what it is. I suppose it’s important though.”
Tumblr media
“It is a vote, henceforth it is politics no matter the subject matter.” Aiden paused, looking at this brother. He looked as if he had a whole barrel full of bad wine, followed by a serious beat down from the inside out–if that was even possible. It wasn’t a look that Aiden was familiar with, as the younger fae had many dealings with all kinds of hangovers, yet Kirk looked worse than Aiden has ever felt. “You look like absolute shit, you know that right? Did you somehow become a taste tester for all of Giselle’s food too? I would believe it since you are mister-yes-man to everything the Queen or her court demands.”

“You think that was what was about to happen? Kid, you’ve got to get better taste. Surely you have connections enough get into some nice clubs. I’ll give you a recommendation.” He tugged Aiden away and towards his carriage. “I will buy you a drink and see about finding you a better pastime.”
Tumblr media
“If I had better tastes, no one on this damn island would be worthy of my time. I can’t be picky with the cards I’ve been dealt with. Plus the nice clubs don’t like me. I like making too much of a mess.” He dragged his heel, feeling the floor beneath him change from wood to dirt. The snickers of the men that Feliks had pulled him away from still carried to his ears and Aiden gave them the finger, then turned to not let the vampire keep hold of his small leash. “A better pastime? What do you suggest? Broad about how life is horrible like you? I already do that. Hence the endless supply of alcohol. You should try it with me.”

The sensation of falling wasn’t foreign to Sorcha by any means. She’d gone cliff-diving before, had flown up to incredible heights before letting herself free-fall for the rush. But in all those scenarios, she had her wings. She had the wind under her control. She could regain control of her fall in an instant if she chose. This time, she had nothing to slow herself down as she gained momentum and the crashing waves rushed toward her. All she had was an instinct calling in her gut and the back of her mind, telling her with a certainty she’d rarely felt that she would be alright. The waves were not her enemies, not today. Not now. They would envelop her like a soothing shroud, and she’d save Aiden in no time. Nearly a hundred years of experience tried to fight this bizarre instinct, but it was useless as she stretched out her hands and slipped into the water with a splash.
Salt water swallowed her up and bubbles clouded her vision for a moment as she kicked hard, eyes peeled for a sign of her brother. Within seconds, however, panic surged through her. Her kicks had become pained; her legs seemingly refused to move the way she wanted them to. Sorcha twisted in the water, trying to get a look at her legs to see if she’d hit a rock or gotten tangled on something. To her surprise, she watched as her legs forced themselves together, skin giving way to shimmering purple scales as the appendages fused together at the waist. Her shock was enough to block out the pain of her bones reshaping themselves, enough to make her forget to keep holding her breath. She gulped in a mouthful of water, a muffled cry forcing itself out, and the panic spiked again as she braced to start choking. Instead, the sea water passed through her lungs as easily as air, rendering her still and befuddled.
So… she’d lost her wings and her powers, but become a mermaid? That was unexpected to say the least. But more helpful than she could describe in this moment. She might not how to work a fish tail, but she would have to figure it out fast—she still had to find Aiden. Who knew if he was as lucky as she’d been? The ex-fae twisted in the water again and gave her newly-emerged tail a massive flick. The force shot her down through the waves faster than she’d expected, and despite her continued worry for Aiden, she couldn’t suppress a grin. This was almost like flying, in a way: just as instinctive and as fast. She cut through the water like a bullet from a gun, adjusting her course with the same sort of minute adjustments to her body as she would make in the air, her tail and her arms combining in powerful strokes to send her deeper, faster.
A few seconds later, a dark shape appeared in the water before her. Dark, humanoid, and writhing with such severity that she could never mistake it for anyone but a drowning person. Sorcha flicked her tail again and closed the gap, arms wrapping around the figure tightly, patting at his face and shoulders, anything to get him to calm himself and not make it worse. Aiden’s eyes were blown wide in panic and defiance, and it was enough to make her want to cry for fear and joy combined. Without a word, Sorcha scooped him up, much as she often had when he was so much younger and smaller, and kicked out again, this time aiming upward. In the gathering darkness of the depths below the cliff, she had only instinct to guide her back to fresh air, but that instinct was as strong as the one that had told her not to fear the ocean today. She stared ahead through the gloom as light began filtering down toward them, praying she would be fast enough to get her brother the air he desperately needed.
Tumblr media
Aiden wasn’t drowning. There was still air in his lungs and his vision was still clear, for the most part. He didn’t feel like he was drowning, but to be fair, Aiden had never been submerged underwater. He wasn’t calm for sure, his hands still crawling through the water and his lungs wishing he could take a breath. Merfolk made swimming look easy, but Aiden never went below the surface, he never truly looked at anyone swimming because his life was above water, on the land or in the air. The more he tried to climb, wishing his powers were back or even at least his wings to get the extra strength to push him back up. For the first time, his excessiveness got the better of him and it was going to be his death.
Arms circled around his waist all of the sudden, and he was pulled up immediately, the water pressure wanting to keep him down but this person not letting it. Aiden saw the fire and confusion struck him before realizing it was hair, long messy strands that still curled under the water. They broke the surface and Aiden greedily took in all the air he could. He was still being held on and that was preventing him from flailing. Aiden didn’t even realize he took on some water, coughing it all out of his lungs like it was a disease.
“Sorcha?” He asked, incredulous as if that was all that mattered, not that he was almost drowning just a few moments. Before. The younger boy pulled away, only to fall back under the water. His eyes caught the shimmer, the long tail that his sister now donned before managing to get back up to the surface, barely figuring out how to wade. “Fucking shit, really? The world has gone to shit.”

“Aiden, remember when you saved me from that big spider?” Amalia said randomly before adding, “Neither do I, but here’s your big chance,” She can’t help but sound a little bitter as she is basically asking for help. The Princess could defend herself on many occasions, and frequently jokingly scolded at Aiden whenever he helped her. She didn’t need saving or protection, but it was nice to have someone there for her, not that she’d ever say that to her friend. However, there was one mortal enemy that Amalia couldn’t defeat: the spider. And she hated to ask, but even though she told him that she didn’t need help most of the time, the princess also felt comfortable to ask him whenever she did require assistance. @aidenmacalistair

“What a princess you are,” Aiden deadpanned. He stared at the girl, not a hint of emotion on his face other than the complete disbelief. For as long as Aiden had knew the princess, Amalia was one that could take care of herself. Aiden had seen it with his own eyes. However, there were still many times that the boy had stepped in because he was protective of her. They got into a lot of messes, mainly because there was little to contain each other when a little wine got into their system, but Aiden was already ready to fend off unwanted and unnecessary attention that she would lure in. Yet that somehow turned into Aiden becoming her personal pest killer. “You do know it isn’t spiders that you should be afraid of right?” Nevertheless, he shot a small flame, torching the poor creature’s home to spook the little insect away.

That stupid nagging feeling that Aiden wished he could quiet was acting up again, more so than usual. Most of the time, it wasn’t annoying and within minutes he would end up finding one of his sisters. This time, however, it was restless and it screamed at Aiden to go back home. So Aiden did, and he peered over from the back of the couch, staring at his older brother. “You’re clearly not feeling okay if you’re mistaking me for someone who cares about politics.”

Kirk was still feeling poorly, he felt achy and feverish. He really just wanted to lay down and sleep it off but he didn’t have the time. There was work to be done. However, he did sit down for just a moment. He was in one of the parlours of the palace. Kirk sank down one a sofa only up look up and see the other. “Oh…” He wasn’t quite sure where to start but he couldn’t make himself sit up. “Did you hear? About the vote going on in the council?” @portraitcfdcrian @cassiusreyes @aidenmacalistair

It wasn’t like Aiden made a huge scene… often. He was not the type to kick in the front door and force all the eyes to turn on him. No, Aiden was pretty unspectacular when walking into the tavern and took the first open seat he could find, staring incredibly longingly at the barrel that contained his favorite mead. It was bitter and earthy, completely unlike the fae wine that dominated all fae dinners. Aiden could not remember the last time he truly had that sweet nectar, the thought already causing his face to scrunch up in disgust. No, he wanted his drinks to be as harsh and sour as they could be to have his whole focus on that instead of the cruel thoughts his mind never ceased to have.
“Huh?” Faces in taverns were pretty much one in the same at this point. Names, forget it. Unless Aiden came to a tavern with someone or it was Mateo, there was no chance that Aiden would have noticed anyone. Sure he picked up a few people from time to time, but that doesn’t mean he remembered them. He would only vaguely even remember them standing out amongst the crowd. “It’s a seat. I took it,” Aiden replied plainly. He even noticed the decent enough space that was between the two, the fae clearly not in the girl’s space. Even his wings, glamoured to be hidden away, were tucked nicely behind him. “What? You were waiting on someone?”

Nadya stepped into the dimly lit interior of The Devilish Spade, a tavern not far from the docks where the The Renegade was anchored. With the ship safely docked in pirate waters and under the protection of the vampire court, the dark haired quartermaster felt better about leaving the ship to grab a drink and relax for the night.
Making her way to the back of the bar, Nadya claimed a both against the wall where she could keep an eye on the entrance of the tavern. Flagging down a barmaid, the dark haired woman ordered something hard and watched the barmaid’s figure disappear into growing crowd of patrons. Turning her attention back to the front, Nadya’s hazel eyes landed on a figure making their way through the crowd towards her table. The quartermaster of The Renegade raised an arched brow as the figure slid into the seat across from her.
“Can I help you?” Nadya asked, regarding the figure unenthusiasticly.

Tell Me Why You Love Me PETER
“I don’t”
Tumblr media
“If I did, in that alternate reality… everything I ever said that I hated about you. I hate that you always cry. I hate that you’re always there when I don’t want you to. I hate that you’re always so happy. I hate that you’re so eager to help.
I really hate that for the longest time, because I got used to your hand being there to help me up, the same hand I would slap away, it wasn’t there and it felt wrong.
I hate your dumb long curly hair. I hate your stupid beanstalk of a body. I hate that you kiss so sweet and that so soft. I hate that you’re everything I’m not.”
