Robots working as Librarians in AUE to enhance Students studying

AUE expands the innovation by Robots in campus

American University in The Emirates the leading in education launched a new innovative AI robot which use many resources to help the student by providing him with the necessary information that he would need for his studies without the need of wasting time while looking for the right book. The robots would be working inside AUE library to help understand the student requests once they are asked for a book or materials that would help them in their studies. The robot would be accepting couple of languages especially English and Arabic language as the university have different majors in both languages and it would be easy to communicate with. As a result, the robot would be able to respond in a quick way and will enable to provide the student with his specific needs. The new innovative idea of the IA robot would help to reduce the time the student will take in finding the book that he needs and it will also help in reducing the books and save papers, as based on the new government rule Dubai Paperless Strategy the progress of saving papers as of December 2020, 12.1M hours were saved and 32,388 trees saved which shows a huge number of people who stopped using papers and started the phase of online methods.

The robots, created in collaboration with all online websites of e-books enhance a business helpful librarian user experience. It will enable the students to search for the book and materials within just few clicks or by talking to the robot that would listen to the students and suggest the right book they are looking for, bringing an end-to-end student experience to the surf platform. By enabling the robots to help the students it would help to boost the work of the university as they won’t be in need of ordering books or wait for the books arrival and it will help in reducing a big amount of time and expenses for the university.

The robots are ideal for the purpose of learning and provide the information the students or teachers would be looking for. The robot can be active for more than 48 hours and would be fully charged within less than 5 hours, which the university could use the time of closing at night to charge the robots and make them ready for the next day. Moreover, the robot would be allowed to gather as many information from different websites to ensure the satisfaction of the university users.

Speaking about the benefits of the librarian robot’s capability. Dr Gulnara, Assistant Professor in College of Media and Mass Communication said: “this new AI-powered robot would help to enhance the university users experience and it would save a lot of papers and that will also lead to save a lot of trees”. Thanks for AUE innovative IA ideas, the students would be able now to find their materials and books easily without the need of wasting time looking for the book inside the library and waste time and effort while now the robot would assist all university members in providing their needs. Opposite opinions from many students came among certain issue if the robot stopped working or wasn’t able to connect to the Internet and the issue was solved from the IT department as they mentioned that the robot would be having a database to save multiple of sources and can access those sources without the need of internet.
