An Overview of My Design:

Aethereal Arena encapsulates the essence of my project, a fusion of 'Aether,' representing the ethereal and timeless, and 'Arena,' symbolizing a space of engagement. Stepping into the site transcends reality; the air pulsates with echoes of ancient whispers. VR redefines the context, immersing visitors in a virtual journey, seamlessly transporting them back in time. As they explore, the Aethereal Arena becomes a dynamic theater where history and modernity coalesce, offering a transformative and enchanting experience.

The idea emerged from just curiosity. I imagined how world would be if we could go back in time with the help of architectural structures and technology. With the advanced technology we have today, why not make it to use in these kinda ways? Human brain is vast and so is architecture. A place with endless boundaries will give birth to whole another world like the interstellar scenes hahaha. but to make it plausible was quite a task. attempting to make it real yet unique was a major challenge i faced but hoped to make that work in my final realization project.

Inspiration from movies like Interstellar, Inception, Ex machina etc.

Precendent studies : Filip Dujardin's impossible architecture, Aldo rossi's shards and smooth surfaces.

Introducing Aethereal Arena to life

Progress of my Physical model making! Was excited at how the levels turned out to be. The building of pillars to cutting out arches, the process was indulging.

Crafting Aethereal Arena's physical model, MDF board forms sturdy surfaces with wooden sticks as foundations, brown sheets bring arched walls to life, air-dry clay molds intricate pillars, and imitation grass infuses vitality.

Keeping the color palatte to neutrals for my physical picture of the model for the raw finish hence the chosen materials

Making it digital

The usual routine of an architect and interior designer: making the 2D and 3D visuals. Starting with AutoCAD to draw the technical parts such as sections and plans and further taking them to Sketchup to visualize them in 3D.

Was fun anticipating the outcome of the 3D when you can visualize better and see it to improve it better!

Research question : How much can one perceive architecture in science fiction with historic intervention?

And i started the process with playing with different permutations/ iteration of an amphitheatre, taking one of romans important structures till today.

Now when you develop a design you gotta draw draw and DRAW hahaha! Until you arrive at something that actually satisfies your mind. A designer or an artist always has their design development running in the back of their mind all the time and thats how during each pop up of my ideas I start to immediately sketch it down.

Pro tip: You never know when you get your ideas but when u do write it down or sketch it, It could be real useful for you progess. I get mine in my dreams lol.

Crafting a physical model of the Richborough Roman Fort for real time visualising. Each contour and structure was tried to construct. Also trying new structure forms using wires and foamboard.

Embarking on an unconventional journey, I traversed a pathway not meant for walking, but destined for transport. This unique commute unveiled a trove of information about the surroundings. The air at the ancient Richborough Roman Fort was thick with the surreal essence of a bygone era, transporting me 1600 years back in time. The site, meticulously selected for its relevance to the unfolding research, seamlessly wove together architecture, temporal narratives, and historical intrigue.

The vastness of the grounds, though now eerily empty and nearly forgotten, echoed with the whispers of a once vibrant Roman community. Souvenir shops and informative boards emerged as custodians, preserving records amid the silence. This forgotten expanse, a blank canvas, presents an ideal foundation for future design endeavors—an artist's dream to craft anew, drawing inspiration from the whispers of history etched into the very fabric of Richborough Roman Fort.
