Coimbatore, the city in Tamil Nadu, known as Manchester of South India, is also called India’s Motorsports capital in the motorsports-world. Motorsports has gained huge popularity in India in recent years as the participation in international rally and road racing events has been increased. Indian auto manufacturers are also investing in sports and earning a huge profit in international events.
How Coimbatore Became the Motorsports Capital?
The southern-city is the pit-stop for every national racing tournament. The motorsports in India have a great connection with Kari Motor Speedway (KMS), inaugurated in 2003. KMS is a 2.1 Km purpose-built track located on the outskirts of the city. The track conducts the National Championship races for go-karts, formula racing events, and Motorcycle road racing.
KMS is also approved by Commission International De Karting (CIK-FIA), the governing body of World Motor Sports. This governing body is responsible for conducting races up to Formula 3 category. With this, Coimbatore is a place where you can find various components and testing facilities for different automotive companies.
The motorsport revolution of the city was started by an industrialist, Sundaram Karivardhan, aka Kari. He was a car designer, racing driver, and business executive is known as the Father of Indian motorsport. He ignited the trail during the 70s, 80s, and the early 90s until his ultimate death in 1995. His passion and determination towards the sports paved the way for the new drivers like Karun Chandhok, Narain Karthikeyan, and Armaan Ebrahim.
With this, there are many things that are responsible for making Coimbatore the Motorsports capital of India. There is no doubt that India has a lot of potential as a place for motorsports, but it is a machine-game that requires robust financial support.

Over the past decades, In India, Motorsport has gained the greatest recognition and aroused interest in people worldwide. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, sporting activities around the world, including motorsports, have been disrupted.
Motorsport activities in India have naturally been put on hold for a while. However, sports series around the world are now starting to host closed-door events. The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India (FMSCI) – responsible for the governance and promotion of motorsport in the country – has announced a series of proceedings to persuade racing in India.
Intended to encourage national championships’ resumption and low or medium-level events, these new programs largely target promoters and organizers of events.
New measures announced for 2020 include:
Suppose there are no sponsors associated with the event, 100% exemption from permit fees for organizers of all events. Otherwise, 50% of the permit fee will be charged.
Suppose there are no sponsors associated with the event, 100% exemption from naming rights fees for events. Otherwise, a 50% naming rights fee will be charged.
If these licensees do not participate in any event in 2020, the free renewal of national-level competition licenses requested in 2020 will be transferred for 2021.
1-year extension for existing promoters of various National Championship events regardless of whether the Championship is in 2020 or not.
To relieve the burden of travel and hospitality costs for the organizers, local stewards will be appointed.
The FMSCI genuinely hopes that with these small steps, India’s motorsport will resume as soon as the sports lockdown is lifted.
India is currently entering the fourth phase of the national lockdown, but several relaxations in some places. It was already announced by the government of India that stadiums across the country can be opened with no audience. However, no details were provided on whether sporting events can still be organized without an audience.

During the lockdown, India’s most prominent racing driver started the virtual racing series. Now teenage gamers are getting a big chance – step into real-world racing.
Sixteen-year-old Amith Kutti from Chennai sits on the chair while driving with a gaming wheel in front of a home computer screen during an online race against some of the country’s top drivers.
He went wheel to wheel in an online series during the lockout with Narain Karthikeyan – the first Indian to drive in Formula 1 and Arjun Maini – a European Le Mans Series driver All-Star race of Ultimate E.
Previously, the winner of the third Indian Sim Racing League (ISRL) season – a series of virtual races that was held in April, Kutti beat 31 racers from 15 cities. He was rewarded by getting admission to the Karthikeyan Racing Academy karting program and an internship and trial drive with Volkswagen Motorsport India. He will be able to drive real cars and karts on racing tracks.
Another gamer is the winner of the second ISRL season – Twenty-year-old Sai Prithvi. He will also be able to drive real cars with Volkswagen Motorsport India. He comes with the experience of racing in track races, including Red Bull and ECR karting and podiums in Formula Junior Rookie Series challenges.
Now, especially during the lockdown when due to coronavirus pandemic all the traditional races, Formula 1, Formula E and Moto are canceled, the new virtual competitions have opened the way for virtual pilots India, especially for professionals.
Local virtual racing competitions are open to anyone with access to a simulator or home cheer up to keep motorsport lovers engaged – started by professional drivers when the race tracks became unapproachable due to the country’s lockdown from March 25.

Europe’s biggest football clubs consider cooperation with FIFA on launching of ‘European Premier League’, Sky reports. Wall Street giant is reportedly ready to allocate $6b to the project development.
The end of the Champions League? FIFA secret plans could fundamentally reshape a modern football landscape
Launching a Super League-like tournament which would effectively decimate the Champions League exists in the media for quite a long time. Most successful clubs for years have been ready to join a new project primarily to increase the sponsorship and ticket revenue.
Sky Sports revealed that FIFA is in talks with Europe’s football clubs about proposals to found a tournament named ‘European Premier League’. According to sources close to the latest plans, 2022 is the provisional date for a start. The project will presumably involve 18 clubs from Europe’s top five leagues, i.e. La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1.
Wall Street bank JP Morgan is reportedly going to provide $6bn of debt to help launch the league. The pan-continental tournament will be able to repay the loan from future broadcast income. Each EPL participant is expected to earn more than $100m per year.
European football giants Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, PSG and Bayern Munich, are rumoured to be involved in the tournament. As for English clubs, the competition will include a host of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. FIFA presumably expects one of ‘Big Six’ clubs to turn down the offer as the proposed amount of Premier Leagues representatives is five.
According to Sky’s sources, the fixtures are going to take place during the regular season. None of the potential participants has made a statement regarding the project yet. Liverpool, Man United, JP Morgan and have all refused to comment.
“FIFA does not wish to comment and participate in any speculation about topics which come up every now and then and, for which, institutional structures and regulatory frameworks are well in place at national, European and global level”
Last week, Premier League’s shareholders rejected Liverpool’s and Man United’s attempt to change English football. Their pet ‘Project Big Picture’ proposal would have to reduce the Premier League to 18 teams from 20 and scrap the EFL Cup and Community Shield.

Cristiano Ronaldo appears highly likely to be sidelined for the Champions League clash against Barcelona on 28th October. Juve’s 35-year-old star has repeatedly tested positive for COVID-19, Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reports.
Infected Cristiano should wait until 8th December to face Messi again
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had already been diagnosed with COVID-19 on 13th October while on international duty. Nine days after the initial test, he is still infected, Correio da Mahna reported on Wednesday.
UEFA’s protocol dictates that the clubs are obligated to provide test results one week before any European competition match. Due to this aspect, Ronaldo won’t be available for Andrea Pirlo’s selection ahead of the Champions League clash against Barcelona next week.
The Portuguese ace has missed Juve’s second group stage encounter against Dynamo Kyiv (2-0). While on quarantine, Ronaldo posted a video of him keeping fit while on quarantine.
Alvaro Morata’s brace gave Bianconeri a win over Ukrainian side on Tuesday. Serie A reigning champions will face Hellas Verona in domestic league during the weekend.

PSG and France international superstar says final farewell to youngster Lucas. Mbappe’s personal fan’s battle against cancer sadly ended on Thursday.
2018 World Cup winner took to Twitter to send his condolences after the organization Les Petites Bosses announced eight-year-old Lucas’ death:
“With much emotion, I inform you that Lucas has gone to join the stars. It is difficult to find the words, but it is necessary to pay tribute to the boy full of love, sympathy and, above all, courage who taught me so much and with whom I nurtured a strong bond. I will try to make you proud because you are the real hero.
You deserve all this praise for having fought your disease for more than ten months without ever complaining. I am extremely proud to have been able to be your friend until your last breaths and believe I will be forever. May God grant you the way to Heaven, my little angel. I love you.”
The PSG striker dedicated a celebration to Lucas after a goal against Nimes (4-0) in Ligue 1 match last week.
“Be brave, Lucas. I am with you.”

Sunil Chetri believes that they have improved and evolved tremendously well and are now considered a big competition in Asia. However, this only seems like the beginning as the team looks forward to working hard and making the rest of the trip easier.
Due to the pandemic, the world of sports has been affected a lot and is now shut down. People worldwide are waiting for the resumption of their respective sports activities. However, organizing or starting an event according to the new official guidelines and parameters can be seen as a tall order.
The good news is that Indian football took off and hosted the Hero I League playoffs. Sunil Chetri explained that everything is new in Indian football now. There are many modern mandatory methodologies, including GPS, morning sessions, and video analytics. Fans have shown interest as stadium appearances have increased, and viewership has increased as well. There is a lot of fans chat and love on social media these days.
The clubs have also adopted new technologies. The players have also become more serious about how to deal with themselves. They are much more careful about what to eat and how to train during the offseason. For a while, all of these aspects were not taken seriously.
Indian football has been steered in the right direction with the help of a newly introduced scientific diet, strength, and condition. The players’ fitness level has increased due to the presence of Coach Luka Radman, who brings tremendous experience to the side.
Last year we qualified for the AFC Asian Cup after an eight-year niche and beat Thailand in our first game. Later, we kept Qatar, one of the top five teams in Asia, in Doha’s stalemate.
Earlier no one trusted India’s national football team. But we played the most matches to qualify for the Asian Cup.
Today we are a difficult team to face. We are not child’s play but a force to be reckoned with in Asia. However, this is only the beginning, and we have to take an extended path, which is harder and steeper.
