What You Need to Know About Structure of light microscope
Tumblr media
The most important components of a microscope are: eyepiece, tube, nosepiece, tripod, cross table, object table, condenser, fine drive, coarse drive, light field diaphragm and base.
An eyepiece is the part of an optical system that works on the eye side. It can be a construction with one or more lenses. The task of the eyepiece in the microscope is to convert the real, enlarged intermediate image of the objective into an enlarged, virtual image. You can find out exactly how this works in the chapter "Principle of Magnification"
The size of the light cone at the exit pupil on the eyepiece is matched to that of the entrance pupil of the human eye. Ideally, it is not larger so that it can be completely seen by the eye.
Tube
Tubus is the Latin word for tube. In the microscope, it is connected to the eyepiece and is used to hold it.
Classic devices work with a tube length of 160 mm. Most modern and, above all, professional microscopes usually have a longer tube, as this enables the attachment of additional components. So you can easily insert additional color filters or prisms between the eyepiece and tube.
Lens revolver
There is a lens turret on microscopes in which there are several lenses with different magnification levels. The desired level can be set by turning and snapping into place.
lens
A lens is the part of an optical system that is aligned with the object. It serves to collect the light rays that emanate from it. It creates a real, optical image. In the microscope, this image is enlarged again to a virtual image through the eyepiece.
Good lenses are at the heart of the microscope. If they are of poor quality, they may produce aberrations, such as chromatic aberration . These errors are then magnified by the eyepiece.
Really good lenses that clean up all imaging fields are called apochromats. They do not only consist of one lens, but sometimes up to 10 small lenses. Their price can be several hundred euros, if not in the four-digit range. The best lenses from the top manufacturer sometimes cost more than the average microscope manufacturer.
tripod
The stand forms the framework of the microscope, which holds everything together. All important components are attached to it.
Bracket
The clip acts as a mount for the slide. It is intended to prevent the wearer from accidentally slipping.
