how does mike learn to deal with his panic attacks? like how does he know they are coming or do they just spring up on him?

unfortunately mike never really properly learns How to deal with his panic attacks, other than just entirely preventing them by knocking himself out with valium for a few hours. not the best way to deal with them, especially when he's out and about and needs to be functioning. sometimes he can get away with taking half a valium, which will still make him sleepy and a little loopy, but he learns to function enough that way. he can't drive though. well, he shouldn't, anyway. that doesn't always stop him. he's a little stupid ❤️

although he is better at handling the ones that he can Feel coming on. although he goes to therapy consistently, from 1967 all the way up to the late 80s,he doesn't entirely absorb the tips for his panic attacks. he's a lot better at preventing them when he's at home. usually he'll just turn the lights down and get under a blanket for a while and just breathe the best he can to prevent hyperventilation.but when he's out, he's kinda cooked. he tries to just find a bathroom to run into 😭 awkwardd,,

although for the panic attacks that just spring up on him, he can't do much about those, he just tries his best to not hyperventilate so much cuz he's passed out quite a few times from hyperventilating during panic attacks. he'll just try to find a quiet spot and curl up in the floor, sometimes with a blanket if he can find one, or a pillow to hold. either one is soothing. that is if he's at home. in public he'll try to just find the nearest uninhabited corner or random room , or again, a bathroom. mostly he just takes valium every time. a whole one at home and a half of one in public

he stays on anxiety medication for a long time. he tried to stop them in the 80s because he felt like he was feeling better and didn't need them anymore, and just hated the idea of possibly staying on them for his whole life. that didn't go well as after only a week he started becoming very agitated and it all lead up to a horrible panic attack in the grocery store one day , unfortunately with his niece Janie with him😭that was her first brush with his mental health issues

in my canon when Micky was a little kid he had a hamster but it was like the Family Pet Hamster and well they also had this big fat obese orange cat named cheese and well one day the hamster went missing and the cat looked very satisfied and his parents told him that the hamster ran away to be with its family and he was sad but he thought the hamster would be happier with its family and atleast he still had cheese :)

what it mikes relationship with physical touch? are there times he is absolutely fine either it and others were he cannot stand to be touched?

mikes relationship with touch was extremely damaged for a very very long time due to the severe physical abuse he suffered at the hands of his father. he absolutely could NOT be touched at all or he'd kinda freak out really bad or get very angry and snappy. he especially couldnt be touched from behind, or have his wrists/arms grabbed at all. that was a sure fire way to trigger terrible panic attacks in him.

I think when Micky met mike, he could tell right away that mikes relationship with touch was totally messed up but he didn't know why and he couldn't get mike to say a word about it, so instead of trying to get mike to talk, he would make it a Point that his touch would only ever be kind, and he kinda took it upon himself to help try to heal that inner wound that mike seemed to have. he would even become nauseous just from the pure anxiety of being touched, and would sometimes even gag out loud when micky would touch him.

Micky had to be very touchy with mike in the beginning, though, as he was really weak and kinda half dead from severe starvation after being homeless and he couldn't do anything for himself. things definitely got awkward. far too intimate for two guys who didn't know eachother. the only reason mike didn't freak out amd fight back at first was because he was kinda in a haze and spent several weeks barely even conscious .

when mike began to come to, however, he realized Hey this guy is touching me a lot and he immediately became closed off and afraid and wouldn't allow micky to touch him in any way at all.

over time however when mike became more and more used to micky and eventually accepted him as a friend (whole other rabbit hole there which I won't discuss here) he kinda had this realization that "hey this guy doesn't hit me or inflict any kind of pain on me whatsoever" so he eventually eased into letting micky touch him at times. micky had to ask mike, or atleast tell him that his hand was coming so that he wouldn't freak out.

a big no no spot for mike at the time was his back. he had some deep trauma there, hince the large scars down his back. being touched on the back would repulse him very badly and cause him to kinda shut down.

mike constantly flinched at any touch at all, leaving micky to assume the worst of what may have happened to him in the past (he would be right in those assumptions) although mike tends to be very accepting of head rubs/scratches :) it's very soothing for him and micky uses that to help him during his panic attacks.

later on in his monkee years, his relationship with touch is a little bit better, but then there's sensory issues as well. mike in general, even if it weren't for the abuse, just doesn't enjoy being touched at all. he has lots of sensory stuff about it and there are days where he just Cannot be touched otherwise he'll get very upset.

hugs are a big No No for him, but at the same time, he really likes pressure, it helps him calm down in some moments :) so a really tight hug may help him during sensory overload or nervous moments, but that's why he gets a weighted blanket, so that no one has to touch him for it. although he doesn't flinch at touch so much anymore, there are still moments, usually during times where his ptsd is triggered, that he will flinch or all out panic at touch.

in his older years he's accepted touch much better and is far more accepting of it. by the mid 70s his relationship with physical touch is very healed. he no longer feels afraid to be grabbed suddenly or touched from behind. he still has the sensory issues with touch, but they aren't as bad and he's usually okay with a hug or a pat on the back or a nudge on the arm, things like that :)
