Week 14
I finished all the cleanup. It's time to make the coloring and textures.
It took me a lot of time to figure out how to fix the letters on the first 2 shots. Since some of my shots are connected through morphing, I can't separate the files shot by shot.
My composer got back to me, he made a sample of the sound. It doesn't sound very good right now but hope It will be better at the end.

Week 9
I am not sure about the text, I think I'll animate all the letters by hand

Week 7
Finally got back to production! HOWEVER, I can't complete my shots because of the Text animation issue. I have a 20-second clean, line animation but the text part is empty.
I found many ways to animate text BUT I COULDN'T FIND THE WAY THAT SUITS MY ANIMATION! yet.
I am planning to complete the next shot in week 8, which is:
The girl and the man notice each other in the crowd and the man disappears behind the shadows, she looks around with concern.
My plan is:
Week8: letters flows around people shot(without the words)
? Letters and her falling down
? Her crying, tears falling on letters,
Week9: she collects words into the pouch
Week10: She walks in the city (shadows and tulips pass through the camera) + She walks in Abstract space, transitions to the next scene
Week11: She is standing by the sea, her mid-shot releasing the words + credits
The letter animations depend on my AE abilities. If I can't find a way by week 11, I'll just animate them by hand.

Week 6
I finally fully edited my animatic according to the critiques from 2 of my professors. I tried to merge my ideas with their critics. The common comment was about the cemetery scene being too much on the nose. It is completely removed. Also, the dinner scene was canceled because I only needed a crowd, It would be extra work to animate the table and the food. The zoom-outs and perspective changes were too realistic anyway.
I am considering animating all the text in After Effects because visually my words and letters are not consistent. My animation is already a mixture of line work and graphic shapes, typography can work as just another graphic element. The only problem is I couldn't figure out how to animate text on a 3D path, I want the text to come closer/go further from the screen.

Week 5
I didn't have massive changes in my animatic so I got a chance to work on the style and the coloring of my animation.
Textures made in Ps
Animated textures occupy too much space in the Harmony file. Using 4-5 different textures for different characters might not be logical.
I turned my own images into textures

Week 4
This week I completed my animatic. To achieve a meaningful perspective, I had to recreate my table-turn scenes in After Effects and it worked. A few more scenes were added for the flow of the story and to increase the variety of the compositions. I am satisfied with the result.
Right now the animatic is 1 minute 47 seconds. However, according to class criticism, some scenes were too fast. So it will probably slow down another 10 seconds. I will also try to emphasize the pouch more in some way (extra scenes/color/texture...)
My main concerns right now are, the texture footage and finding an easy way to apply the texture in Toon Boom Harmony.

Week 3
Research:
Yellow flowers mean "separation" in Turkish culture. In some songs, "yellow tulip" is used to represent breakup.
Tulip in Turkish culture
In American culture, yellow is related to joy. Daffodils and tulips send a message of renewal, in bright yellow varieties. But also, both flowers bring encouragement and hope to a grieving family.
SO tulips are somehow related to grief in both cultures!
Storyboard:
This week I have done my storyboard. It took me a lot of time to figure out some angles and perspectives. Although they are not perfectly logical, these faulty angle switches suit my narration.

Update:
I was recommended to use TVpaint for this project. However, even if I could purchase the program, learning something new would be risky at this point. I found a way to implement textures in ToonBoom and I will continue with that software.

Week 2
Treatment:
Lines form a woman's eyes, then her nose and her mouth. Letters pour from her mouth and fill a red pouch she holds with both hands. The woman ties up the pouch and her hands transform into a dinner table setting.
A large table with various dishes appears. The table is surrounded by the guests. The man standing at the head of the table makes a toast. After toasting all together, the guests appear one by one. From their hand gestures, it is understood that they are talking about the man at the head of the table. All the guests are laughing and having fun. The food on the plates runs out while the pouch is still standing in the same place. Everything on the table morphs into a teacup and the woman’s hand, except the pouch. She takes a sip from her tea while looking out from the window.
A tear drops from her eye. The teardrop transforms into the street that she was looking at from the window. She starts walking on the street. Human silhouettes walk by her. Silhouettes transform into tulips. While walking, the sense of time and space disappears. She ends up in a cemetery. She takes her pouch and puts it on a grave. The leaf of the flower on the grave breaks off and flies with the wind. The title of the animation emerges.

Week 1
This year my film ideas are based on my experiences. I chose two different experiences and turned them into stories:
Keywords of the sad film: grief, memories, value, time
Keywords of the funny film: secret formula, scientists, spy, cleaning man
As an animator who makes comedy films, this year I will try something different. After the class discussion, it turned out that people had more faith in my sad story this time, which encouraged me even more.
