It's a Great Time to Be a Software Developer
U.S News has released a report on the best jobs for 2014 and we're happy to see that Software Developer has taken the #1 Best Technology Job ranking, as well as the overall #1 Best Job ranking for 2014! Awesome, right!?!
The full report is available here, but I wanted to share some of the amazing stats from the article that caught my eye.
Awesome Facts For Software Developers - The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics says growth will continue! In fact, the BLS predicts that employment growth will grow a whopping 22% between 2012 – 2022, with an estimated 139,000 jobs that will be filled. Not too shabby for a 10 year period!
- Software Developers have the lowest unemployment rate.
- Software Developers are bringing in the dough! The reported average salary for 2013 of Software Developers is $90,000 with the lowest 10% of developers still bringing in $55,000. As a note, that 55K is currently above the U.S. Household Income average; in 2012 U.S. median household income was $51,371 per the Census Bureau.
These are some pretty spectacular facts for all of you Software Developers! You can officially take a bow for choosing THE most secure job position in America and do a happy dance to celebrate the fact that not only is your job considered to be one of the more flexible positions but one that will be necessary to all of our lives forevermore.
Now because this IS a company blog, I will go ahead and mention that you should give MyEclipse 2014 a try. But I don’t mention that just because I happen to work for Genuitec, but rather because MyEclipse 2014 has a long history of providing software developers with the hottest technologies used in the field today and does so in a lightweight and super cost efficient package. You can bump over to this blog here, to find out which of the top technologies for developers that MyEclipse 2014 supports.

Grab the New Java 7u51 Pack Here.
What’s New @Java. - Jarsigner now encourages timestamping: The new jarsigner will encourage you to use a timestamp URL to avoid taking unexpected hits when a certificate expires.
- Default Socket Permissions: Applications that open listener ports, e.g. servers,  will run into security issues now because Java limits which sockets you can bind to without modifying the security policy.  A good tutorial on how to do this can be found at here.
- Clearing of Remembered Decisions: If you’ve accidentally selected incorrect or unnecessary security alerts, this release will now let you easily clear out our selections so you can always be sure you have only the settings you really want.
- JAXP Xalan DOM Implementation: Now when you have a Security Manager in your application, JAXP will always use the default DOM implementation. This should only affect those of you who have replaced the DOM implementation in your application.
For additional details on the release, you can read the full release notes here.
What you’ll see from Genuitec. Applet Security: For this pack update, SDC will now include support for the applet security issues. SDC now ships with web installation flows turned off by default to ensure users avoid receiving notifications that applets may be insecure. Users can easily turn applet support on by selecting the re-enable the option on the Access Policy page of the Admin Console.
Grab your Java here. In an effort to keep you and your team up-to-date with the latest tools, Genuitec will now be making the Java packs available within a week of their release. Java packs, as well as the most current SDC downloads, will always be available at this link – http://www.genuitec.com/sdc/download_all.php
Not using SDC to deliver your team’s tools? To schedule a demo and learn more about how SDC is making delivery and security for your team a breeze, click here.

Trends in Mobile Development
You may have noticed over the last couple of years that the mobile app world is changing at a wickedly fast pace.
Those of you who are developing mobile and web apps are in a constant state of updating and adjusting your applications to include the latest technologies, the newest phone sizes, and security concerns. And those of you who are trying to break into the mobile app arena are discovering how an over abundance of amazing technological advancements quickly become a pain in the you-know-what when you’re trying to incorporate the lot of them into your app.
What’s more, those of us providing app builder software are stuck in the middle of this battle, trying to keep up with the latest trends, decide the future of those trends, and meet high customer demands wherein half of those customers are hard-core developers and the other half are have no idea what API even is. Throw in the speculation of latest features and rumors of new directions from mobile phone makers, and what you get is a chaotic battle of balance for all parties.
We’ve done a lot of research on what these trends currently are and have compiled a list of what we feel are the top 5 trends in mobile development. These 5 trends represent the vast majority of the new apps breaching into today’s market, and we feel strongly that these trends also have the strongest staying power.
We’re looking forward to seeing how these trends transcend time. With the plethora of new technology coming out on what seems like a daily basis, we’re curious how you feel about these trends.
What technologies are you using in your apps? Are you moving your apps to the Cloud? Do you think we’ll see NFC available in iPhones anytime soon?
I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts, opinions, and concerns about these trends.
For those of you curious about what’s new in our app builder, MobiOne Studio, I am happy to report that an upcoming release of MobiOne Studio 2.5 is imminent. A production release is already available for tinkering by clicking here.
If you’re needing an application development solution at the enterprise level, consider MyEclipse 2013 with Mobile Tools. ME2013 utilizes the full app dev power of MobiOne while incorporating the IDE power of MyEclipse.
Both MobiOne and MyEclipse are available for a free, no-obligation trial. We’re making great strides to keep up the pace with an ever changing industry and the latest trends in app development.
