I loved seeing more of Marian and Oscar’s dynamic as cousins ❤️ it was so sweet how she comforted him, held him, and let him cry as well as protected him from accidentally outing himself to Agnes.

I think it would be really sweet to see more moments between them, and if they could confide in each other more as the show goes on. It would also be really fun to see Oscar try to teach Marian to plot and scheme the way he does.

I'm too obsessed with John giving Oscar a house to be fully coherent about it yet, but there is something here about a house as an overt symbol of both domesticity and status, as a final manifestation of everything John's been doing for him this season in reestablishing him in business and society, but also as a place of privacy and personal as well as social security (especially as we know they spent time in this particular house together).

A house is in a lot of ways the ultimate symbol of this kind of stability, an overt statement of wealth and status and the place where one hosts one's friends and.or social connections. But at the same time, and for John and Oscar in particular, they clearly understand the value of privacy that a home can provide--I mean, my god, they were out there living the one-bedroom apartment lifestyle together in 1882, they clearly felt like their home provided safety and insulation from the outside world.

So the gift of the house is at once granting Oscar a symbol of the kind of position and security that he had been trying to find through marriage, as well as a place of privacy and safety for him to exist outside of the public eye. It's a hugely symbolic as well as practically useful gift, and personally speaking I may never get over it.

Okay, but Oscar's breakdown?? Chef's kiss, heartbreaking, the way the mask cracks for those moments, his GRIEF at not being able to publicly mourn the love of his life. And I'm sure all of it came back in flashes. How he tried to snub John Adams so that he could find a candidate for a lavender marriage. How John Adams tried to persuade him to live as openly as possible. His fear, his retreat to the shadows.

And then, his mother knowing exactly what was happening, but never breathing a word of it. Ada understanding that Oscar's grief resembled her own at losing her husband, yet not comprehending why Oscar could be feeling this for John Adams unless it was his "savior," like how she felt Reverend Forte was her life's savior. Marian understanding what was going on, and having the heart to comfort him in the privacy of his room. And his relief at finally being seen, being loved by at least one person in his family.

Something that really really bothers me of the way people talk about Diana Mitford involvement with the nazi party, in this site and even actual biographers like in The Sisters, is that they keep insisting that personally Diana didn’t hate jewish people, she just liked the nazi party other ideas and was just supporting her man in his political endevors. As if that is something that makes it okay. The fact that the nazi party was advocating for genocide and that wasn’t a dealbreaker for her it’s actually just as bad as if she hated jewish people personally. 

Indifference at that level is as monstrous as hatred. 

And even after the war when the extent of the holocaust crimes were revealed she still kept thinking of Hitler as friend so fuck her. 

She was an awful human being and the fact that people are still trying to excuse her for her actions because she was pretty and stylish and whatever is disgusting.
