Self-worth is something that Yuni struggles with. From the moment she was born she had the Trinisette song in her mind, an inescapable fate and a place in the balance of the universe that she knew she'd have to fill one day. She never fully understood it until after Aria passed and she inherited the sky pacifier. Because as wise beyond her years and deeper capacity for understanding and knowledge was, Yuni was still a child and Aria wanted to preserve that for as long as she could, cursed bloodline be damned. Her mother explained the visions to her somewhat, and passed on the message of smiling, even when times are hard but especially when she's happy, but not much else. The curse didn't need explaining, though. It's something the sky arco's are simply born knowing. It's in their blood and etched into their hearts and souls from being descendants of Sepira.

But the mafia isnt.

In many a timeline, Yuni's inheritance of the Giglio Nero Famiglia--her life in general--led to a fixed end. There were some variances, but the result would be the same. She died, and the Byakuran of that time would be left unable to tap the full power of the Trinisette. This is the first one where that isn't a guarantee. Where she can't see her end. Not only that, this is the first where she's free from the arcobaleno curse as well. One where her life was almost her own. Really, without the Giglio Nero, she wouldn't quite know what to do with herself, because so much of her identity and purpose was staked on (morbid as it is) how she was going to die. On the preservation of the Trinisette above all else. 

So even now she desperately needs something to focus on. A reason to exist. She's young, and what little, normal life she lead before Aria died was far from enough to make sure a child developed into her own person, not dependent on others. She knows what she has to be. What she's supposed to be, and for Yuni that equates to what she 'wants' to be. She isn't dissatisfied so to speak, in fact, she loves her life with her family and friends. But she would be. So lost without them. She stakes her entire existence and worth on her ability to lead and take care of the family her mother left behind. Nothing in her life has ever been just about her or solely for Yuni's own sake. and she doesn't see anything wrong with that. It's a mixture of selflessness, self-depreciation, self-sacrifice, fear, and a rather unhealthy dependence on others to confirm her existence, place, and worth in the world. Does she recognize all of that? Somewhat. But it's just who she is, and that's not liable to change anytime soon. 

She hates asking for things. Being selfish, or coming off as even a remote nuisance needlessly isn't something she can do. Relaxing is something that's hard to do. She measures her words and thinks, rethinks, and thinks again about everything she's done because she knows the mafia world isn't kind and that a singular slip could ruin her famiglia and all they've done to support her through her ignorance. She may be a powerful empath, borderline telepathic when the projected emotions are strong enough, but that can only get her so far. Can only show her clearly how she's doing not what to do to keep the thin ice she skates on from cracking and breaking apart. 

Even the little things she does--flower crowns, picnics, having fun with friends and allies are more for to ease Gamma and her family's concerns. Because they know she tries hard and knows she's a child and wants to make things easy for her. Want to know that she does have a net, a support that she can lean on. So she wants to make them happy by doing happy things. While there's some level of comfort to them though, it comes with the constant anxiety and a voice in her head telling her 'You should be doing more.' that slacking off, that having too much fun or taking more rest than her body absolutely requires to function is wrong. Its weakness and it will be exploited if she isn't careful. She can keep her cool, maintain a serene face, and use what she knows and reads off others against them as needed, but she lacks confidence.

She can't risk taking it easy when her family--whole world, her reason to live--is on the line.

Meta #1

Yuni is...more sturdy than she looks.

A lot of the ‘frailty’ of her appearance was actually due to the curse. In the same way the other arcobaleno were turned into infants, Yuni (and Aria) who grew up some and then *inherited* the curse were made drastically weaker by it.

(lots of headcanons about how i interpret things that are more KHR lore? than specifically Yuni but still relates, under the cut)

The sky arcobaleno throughout time have always descended from the same bloodline. Sepira’s bloodline. One of two last members of a dying race. Kawahira didn’t want to believe in humans or trust them with any of the powers of the Tri-Ni-Sette as far as he could throw them. But Sepira did and well--based on the present state of the world, it’s clear who had the final say in that matter before they parted ways.

And while it’s never clarified what exactly was killed the rest of their people I’m willing to bet it had everything to do with maintaining the Tri-Ni-Sette...and the addition of humans to the world.

While Kawahira and Sepira’s kind were wiser, stronger, and far longer lived than mankind, humans had a feature in their flawed and mortal makings that really shook up the world—the balance of the universe as a whole—with their evolution. Humans are creatures with a great ability to change so much in the world around them in so short a time that it’s. Remarkable. The universe has never been so open and full of so many possibilities that of course the force and energy keeping everything in order had to grow to adapt. But while it and humans grew, Kawahira, Sepira, and their race didn’t. Couldn't. They were the ones that had the knowledge and proper ability to call upon and manage the powers of the Tri-Ni-Sette,  but their bodies couldn’t take the toll. Out with the old in with the new the cost of maintaining their ‘secret universe mending rocks’ was that of their race. Because of mankind.

Yet mankind was also the solution.

Sepira saw that, and truthfully so did Kawahira, but she was more willing to do what was necessary at the time than he was. A system was then made. The three aspects of the Tri-Ni-Sette were broken into two sets of sky aspected rings and the pacifier set. (I could get into potential lore about where the Shimon rings and even the Cervello fit into all this but not now maybe a later date). You see, humans were special in that their flames weren’t everything they are. Not in the same way it is for Kawahira and Sepira. There’s something special about mankind, even split as it is, that let’s them wield and synchronize with the powers of the Tri-Ni-Sette. Of course not just anyone. can, but the fact that there are humans that exist who can—humans that seemed to be born specifically for these rings is a fantastic miracle that’s as brilliant as mankind’s own mortality.

And once you give a sky ring to its rightful owner—the human born for its aspect—the universe will find ways, come hell or high water, to call the rest of that sets rightful guardians to their Sky. Because those Skies can harmonize with anyone, yes, but the deepest of bonds—the people truly meant to bear those rings with that sky is limited to one person per aspect per generation. And the proof of that lies in just how much of the rings powers can be used once all the guardians of that set have been assembled. Just how much strength the Sky and their guardians get from it once every ring is on its rightful hand.

In Sepira’s time there was only one set ready to be released to mankind. The Vongola rings. While humans can be born for these rings, they’re not always born together. Giotto was the first and only human of his time born to be a Sky for the Tri-Ni-Sette. So she gave him his birthright, held on to the Mare rings, and then dealt with another problem.

The pacifiers.

See, the pacifiers were the trickiest to handle. There would never truly be a human born to be that set’s sky. That right still somewhat belonged to her and Kawahira alone, as the last of their kind. The pacifiers were the first set made and contained the crux of tri-ni-sette’s powers. It’s for this reason that the sky arcobaleno has so much authority over the tri-ni-sette. There was no real way to perfectly balance out the power distribution between the three sets. Not with the way the aspects fell. And as the song goes, the arcobaleno only exist in fixed points in time for the same reason.

They’re less about ~harmony~ and birthright than raw power and satisfaction. The pacifiers can only be held by the strongest mankind had to offer. The ones with the brightest flames of each class whose bodies could withstand the strain of the curse longer than any other before the pacifiers had to be stripped and given back. (Actually, wait I’m gonna backtrack some. The pacifiers were made and already in the world first. Because the Vindice already existed and was p well established by Giotto’s time. He was still the first human born for the tri-ni-sette, but not the first human integrated into the cycle). And the thing is while there will be humans for the Mare and Vongola rings, there’s never going to be one for the sky pacifier. Because that Flame of Life necessary for the resurrection clause of the arcobaleno only exists in Sepira’s kind. Maybe the universe or Kawahira would’ve found a way to compensate for it, had Sepira died with no successors (because for all the power Kawahira holds, Sepira was the last Sky of their race), but as it stood then, there wasn’t an alternative.

It’s also because of this all-encompassing influence of the Sky pacifier that the Mare rings had guardians without their proper Sky. The Sky Arcobaleno’s presence (and the fact that the pacifiers holders—while still loyal to that sky, don’t gravitate or have the same pull and awareness of the arco sky as the other two sets do) is enough to simulate that pull, harmonization, and bond (but again, not as deeply as with its rightful sky).

It’s also never really made clear how Sepira and Luce and Aria reproduced (no mention of a father, and don’t even make me think about the fact that Luce was a pregnant baby.), even the potential addition of human DNA didn’t dilute or take away from their ability to hold the pacifiers. (Or maybe it did? After all, their life expectancies were just getting shorter and shorter...)

But now? That the curse is lifted and Yuni (while still genetically tied to and aware of the tri-ni-sette and its workings) is a lot physically stronger and her flames burn a so much brighter than ever before. Even her powers, which were dampened by the strain of the pacifier (where as the other rings focus and intensify those powers) are a lot more acute and stronger. She still can’t call visions of the future at will, but when she gets them? Clear as day. The empathetic and intent readings run deeper without any effort from her crossover into actual mind readings far more often, even when someone isn't feeling something very intensely. And her life expectancy?

Well. That’s a little up in the air now isnt it? She isn’t slated to die young just because of the pacifier anymore—but the mafia lifestyle? That’s it’s own can of worms. But provided that doesn’t put her down—with the kind of blood running through her veins if she isn’t killed she’ll live for a good long while. I’m not gonna say she’s immortal now but I’m not not gonna say it because I’m extra like that.

Also she can summon and use her flames w/o a conduit like a ring. Because they make up so much more of her being than the average human’s, she doesn’t need it to light her flames--but her intent and actions are far more focused and intense when she does use a gem.

TL;DR Yuni is a condensed ball of sky flames that’s no longer being leeched on by the pacifier, so now mysticism stat through the roof, constitution mod just gained a background perk, and she may or may not live forever. ^^
