“I’m sure. I’m saying it because it’s true Friday. I shouldn’t have-”

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have let all my anger get in the way and take it out on you. You didn’t need all that and almost dying has made me realise anger doesn’t get you that far where it matters.”

“Don’t say that.”

“….You’re sure, right?”

“No, I’m a terrible influence.” she grinned.

Ariadne squeezed her eyes shut for a few moments. “Thank you for that, Rhys, for being there when I couldn’t be. I’m pretty sure you’re the only reason he’s not been thrown in jail for murder.”

“You’re a bad influence,” he teased.

“He was convinced he was going to lose you. He refused to leave when the doctors were still treating you, I stayed with him most of the time.”

“Fuck.” Ariadne was speechless for once, unable to conjure a single word of comfort knowing all too well after watching Orion ‘die’ that there was none to be had. Instead she just pulled her friend closer and murmured. “Nyx I’m so sorry.” 

Saying the words is hard, so much harder than she had already thought they’d be. She starts and stops a few times before she finally pushes it out. 

“Jax… h-he’s g-…he’s gone…”

Ariadne held on tight, refusing to let go when Nyx clearly needed her. “I’ll be fine, I don’t intend to let this end me and a little pain is worth it if it means comforting your friend. Now are you going to tell me what I’ve missed? Because I know this has to do with more than just me.”

“Don’t, stupid, you’re gonna hurt yourself,” Nyx scolds, trying very gently to pull out of Ariadne’s hold. She desperately needs the comfort, but not at the expense of her best friend’s recovery. Orion would kill her.

“I don’t really deserve to still be important to you.”

“But I’m fine, it’s going to take more than this to take me out.”

“Ariadne… you’re my-… you got shot, of course I’d wanna be near you! Even if you’re mad at me, you’re still important to me. I needed to know you were okay.”

[ariadne-stark]

“I don’t know with everything I just- It doesn’t matter, I’m glad you’re here.”

“Where else would I be?”

[ariadne-stark]

She hold’s Nyx’s hand tightly and uses it to help pull her into a hug, wincing and drawing a breath at the pain.

“Just let it all out, you know I’m here for you.”

She walks to Ariadne’s bed and sits very slowly next to her best friend, gently grasping her hand.

“Friday?”

“What are you doing here? I thought after everything recently you wouldn’t want to be anywhere near me.”

“N-no, you have to rest!”

[ariadne-stark]

Nyx, get your ass over here so I can hug you, seeing as you won’t let me leave this damned bed.”

“I’m not going anywhere, ok? You won’t lose me too.”

“You know I do, but goddammit. You can’t-”

“I can’t lose anybody else. I can’t.”

“What you’re saying makes perfect sense and I know you’re just doing your job but I hope you know I’m probably going to end up disregarding it all and discharging myself sooner rather than later.”

“The more you rest, the sooner you’ll be out. Honestly, it shouldn’t be much longer. I know being stuck in bed is the worst, but it’s for your own good right now.”

“You know, I think you’ve been spending too much time with me I’m worried I’m rubbing off on you.”

“That often? Thanks. I know I’m not going to like the answer to this, but how’s Orion been?”

“Yes, and I’m very glad you still are, otherwise I’d find a way to bring you back and kill you myself.”

“Most of the day. Been visiting when I could as soon as I heard what happened.”

“Well you’d best hope I get there soon or you’ll have more injuries to deal with. I don’t handle being confined to bed well.”

“That’s good. Doesn’t count you as fine enough to be out and about, though, sorry.”

[ariadne-stark]

“Thank you. Finally someone who sees sense.”

“I believe you.”

“I didn’t expect you to be here.”

“Aria.”

I’m from Two, Lancaster, we’re taught not to feel pain. And don’t flatter yourself, if your man had been covering me like he was supposed to this would never have happened.

You know, I know from experience you’re not.  And I really didn’t think that you’d go and copy me and get shot.

“Fine.”

“I really thought you’d understand how frustrating this is.”

“Lay your ass back down right now.”

“Hey, I’m still breathing aren’t I? That counts as fine enough in my books.”

“How long have you been here?”

“You got shot, Ariadne. Not counting it as fine, not entirely.”
