Another important addition to our international membership, Saint Ngeli Mbembo from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mbembo's ceramic work is uniquely expressive, blending familiar ceramic techniques and materials with tendencies and sensibilities visible in both traditional and contemporary African art. The artist's simplest works are defined by their compelling sense of form, color, and pattern. The more complex pieces, in a very compelling fashion, do not offer closure or conclusions but instead provide multiple points of visual exploration with a palpable sense of instinctual urgency. Today we are very, very pleased to welcome a new international member, Liu Xi from China!! Liu Xi recently took a silver prize at the Taiwan biennale and rightly so. Xi successfully works in numerous idioms, and the intoxicating density of her forms, patterns, and textures give her art a powerful sense of physical and visual strength. We are happy to welcome a new international member today, Oren Arbel from Israel. Having studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Arbel currently lives and works on a Kibbutz north of Jerusalem. Arbel has taken a number of studied and inventive approaches to the vessel, almost surgically exposing the cultural and conceptual content of forms with universal relevance and infinite variety.
