FIRST/LAST NAME: Laurence John ‘LJ’ Caston
NICKNAMES: Laurie, Lauren, Jack, Jacky, Jo
AGE: 804 (physically 25)
PRONOUNS: he/him
OCCUPATION (MUSE, ARTIST, ETC.): muse, art historian/archaeologist & vigilante
FACE CLAIM: Charles Bilgrien
3 POSITIVE TRAITS: protective, dedicated, innovative
3 NEGATIVE TRAITS: jaded, grumpy, impatient
IN CHARACTER – DETAILS
LJ was born in 1216, at the end of the ravaging civil wars between King John and the barons. He grew up in a shattered, recovering country under an ineffectual king; hardship was a constant from an early age, scraping a living through whatever means he could. however, his secret passion was for art, sketches and carvings and sculptures whittled into wood. Even when he left home to join the army, he kept his passion burning, though hidden. His death should’ve been in action; it should’ve been glorious, should’ve been worth something, but in the end it was nothing more than pneumonia after trying to nurse a friend. The only people to be privy to his artwork during his mortal life were the order of nuns who cared for him as he died – a clumsy, whittled rosary, still tucked into an empty grave. When he came back, people didn’t know what to make of him – least of all himself. The nuns called it a miracle, the villagers called it the devil’s work, the army was just glad to have one of their best archers back. Even LJ didn’t understand what he was, or why he’d been saved, until he met another muse. They’d already been alive for nearly 1,000 years and told him exactly what he’d been brought back to do: to inspire, to guide, to light humanity’s artistic journey and illuminate the future. Their biggest influence was to instil him with a sense of duty, a faithfulness he’s never managed to completely abandon. Over the years, LJ has travelled the world: he fought at Agincourt and Crecy, sailed on the Golden Hind, pitched up in the American and French Revolutions, went to university several times over. Loved and lost many people, including other muses. He trained under Nicholas Hilliard, experienced more civil wars, fought at Trafalgar; countless events lived, centuries gone by, and one constant: suffering.

First/Last Name: Rob Gordon
Age: 30
Pronouns: he/him
Occupation (Muse, Artist, etc.): Toe-painting artist
Face Claim: Iain De Caestecker
3 positive traits: playful, genuine, caring
3 negative traits: naive, unfulfilled, eccentric
IN CHARACTER - DETAILS Rob has always been the one you’d avoid if you were in a bad mood. He’s upbeat to no end and it tends to rub people in all the wrong ways. His family has been muse-inspired for centuries and he’s grown up with the tale of how this muse has saved their family and made them prosper for generations. While his branch of the family tree did not get the gift of muse, he still aspired to become an artist and opted to train himself and cultivate his creativity rather than relying on a muse to save him and he’s been successful enough to afford a nice studio apartment which doubles as his art studio. For those who see his work, they can see a true talent in the way his brush interacts with the canvas to create such invoking scenes. These scenes range from his preferred ones - calming landscapes of various natural views - to the ones he hates making but recognizes that they are the only things that sell - the macabre scenes of murder and mayhem. Those who know him though, would know that n'er a brush has touched his canvas. He paints exclusively with his toes and occasionally his heel when needed. He considers himself 10% better than his best contemporary due to his polydactyly which provided him with an extra toe on his right foot. (He does believe he has contemporaries, he is unaware that he is probably the only painter of his kind). He loves meeting new people and hearing their stories and never turns down an invitation to learn about someone.

IN CHARACTER – BASICS
First/Last Name: Count Xander (Pen Name)/ Deryl Diamond (real name)
Age: 28
Pronouns: he/him/count (he never refers to himself as the count, always talking about the count in 3rd person)
Occupation (Muse, Artist, etc.): Murder Mystery writer by profession, dark poetry by choice
Face Claim: Charles Michael Davis
3 positive traits: analytical, intelligent, imaginative
3 negative traits: morose, shy, secretive
IN CHARACTER – DETAILS
Fictional Author Biography: Count Xander was born a wealthy Count of a small European country that most have not heard of. Bored of his life of opulence, he moved to America to investigate murders in the mid-century on a whim. While assisting investigators solving multiple crimes throughout the decades, he picked up the investigative skills that allowed him in his later years to work on his own investigations in his series of murder mystery novels. While the novels are marketed as purely fiction with any likeness resembling real persons, events, or places purely coincidental, this is a thinly veiled liability loophole as many clearly surround active cases. Character Biography: Deryl is the man behind behind the mask of Count Xander. He’s been writing murder mystery novels since he was a teenager, releasing them under a very confidential pen name with an out of country publishing company. He was always a loner, trending towards the gothic lifestyle but found that he was never considered ‘goth enough’ to fit in with the black painted nails and eye-liner wearing crowd he gravitated towards. So instead he opted to keep to himself and dabble in poetry that is very reminiscent of Poe while researching and writing about the grisly murders which have occurred over the years. Now, an adult, he’s turned his love of the macabre into a more successful career, having the time to devote to writing 100% rather than split his focus with school and college. He’s recently heard of a series of abductions surrounding the fine art world in New York, and it called to him. A scenario of murder that could be straight out of Poe, he imagines a lifestyle of wealthy masked parties with murder as the main course. He’s wrong of course, but he’s determined to infiltrate the scene and uncover the truth for his next novel. He has come under the guise of being a research assistant for Count Xander. What he discovers will likely change the way he sees the world forever.

Days after The Urbane's opening night of Edward Poldark's collection of masterpieces, the art world has been captured by the events that have led us to today's most recent developments in a story that seemingly has no end. Visitors to the The Urbane on the night in question may recall an artwork that was titled The Revival. It was what many would frankly consider to be the only one that may be worth remembering in an otherwise unanimously disappointing experience.
The surrealist painting depicted a silhouette that was half shaded and half enraptured by a light from above, standing on a pit of snakes, one of which was curling around the ankle on the "revived" side. Its poignancy was a trademark of one's muse, a sense that any true artist would know from one look.
Upon speaking with Mrs. Poldark, however, The Revival was not painted by her husband. In fact, she has no recollection of this artwork, and further investigation into the records of The Urbane's latest acquisition finds that it was also not listed. With its mysterious arrival came its equally mysterious disappearance, along with another important addition to that night's festivities: Poldark himself.
The artist that was presumed dead is now revealed to be alive, at least up until his sudden leave of absence. Mrs. Poldark came forward only today to finally reveal that her husband's death had been a hoax for a chance at notoriety, and could not continue to remain quiet when there is a "very real crime" to investigate.
Mrs. Poldark herself is facing various charges, including insurance fraud, conspiracy, and filing a false report, in spite of her claims that it was all Edward Poldark's idea. From how Manhattan has been littered with missing posters, it has not been determined whether it is also within his plan to fake his own abduction for continued exposure, but any information that may lead to answers should immediately be forwarded to the proper authorities.

here’s the long and short of it: your mom died when she was 16, only, she didn’t–not in any way that mattered. for the next few decades she travels, she loves, and she lives. eventually you come along, unplanned, and reality sets in. the years can’t touch her, but she knows time will soon take its toll on you. it’ll happen in the blink of an eye, and the thought terrifies her. so she does the only thing she can–she runs.
you’re eight years old when she leaves, twelve when your father decides to go after her. to make things easier on you both you gave him permission, told him it was okay, but you both knew it wasn’t. you’re stuck in a foster home until you’re 15, when someone you’ve never met before claims to be a long lost relative. you don’t really care that you don’t believe them.
turns out, you are related–in a way. it’s hard to believe the woman pushing 80 before you could’ve once been your mother’s lover, but for some reason you believe her. she teaches you forgiveness; she understands how hard it is to be left behind. she opens your eyes to the strange world around you, and soon you’ve made it your mission to document the stories of those who’ve been cast aside; the ones who were given a taste of immortality, but nothing more. the ones who had to pick up the pieces of their lives and keep going.
you’ve sat by many bedsides, holding hands until last breaths were taken. you listen to them–to their stories, their lives, their hopes & dreams–the voices of those who weren’t gifted with immortality but were unfortunate enough to cross paths with those who did.

FACE CLAIM: Sarah Gadon
3 POSITIVE TRAITS: Nurturing, Patient, Clever
3 NEGATIVE TRAITS: Vengeful, Arrogant, Manipulative
IN CHARACTER – DETAILS (OPTIONAL)
ADDITIONAL DETAILS (This can be about their personality or general background.):
Emmeline was the first daughter of an English Baron and as for most women in her time, all that was expected of her was to marry and to marry well. She was wed to a Marquis Blackthorn, quite a step up for little Emme Fitzgerald, and outwardly she presented with an aura of happiness, contentment. And yet she had a secret - Emme had a passion for words, and she began penning novels under the pseudonym E. F. Beaumont from the young age of eighteen. These were not your traditional love stories no, she wrote mystery novels, of killers and hidden treasures and thieves in the night - things a pretty little English Rose shouldn’t even think about much less know.
Emme’s life was the envy of many, a kind if distant husband, a rich, bountiful estate, and three little angels she called her own. Brave Edward, sweet Nicholas, and her spitfire of a daughter, little “Lottie” Blackthorn. Her novels also sold splendidly, and though she never got the credit she deserved, she was truly happy, content. Then, seemingly one after the other, tragedy struck her life. She lost her eldest Edward to a duel gone wrong, she lost Nicholas to an incurable illness, and when all that was left to her was her fiery Lottie, she was to be wed to a man whose cruelty was as vast as his pockets were deep. All her husband saw was an opportunity when he looked at Lottie’s betrothed, all Emme could see was the eventual cause of her death. Emme knew she had to act and she made a plan to escape with Lottie on a ship to the Americas, but just as they were at the pier, hired goons had captured them and in the struggle, both mother and daughter were killed.
Emme woke later on, bloodied and bruised, her corpse tossed into an alleyway and left to rot. Freezing and frightened and mourning the loss of her last child, Emme boarded the next boat to America and left the world she knew behind. She arrived in New York with nothing to her name, but Emme carved a life for herself with her own two hands. She found sanctuary in a brothel, earning money by bedding man after man and penning missives and documents for the illiterate madame. Emme continued to write, sometimes hours on end, as if in a trance, penning novel after novel, story after story. Then, one day, she met a man - an author, like herself - who recognized her for what she truly was, a Muse. He whisked her away and married her and they had two beautiful children, twins Andres and Angelique. Due to their bond, her husband, once just a middling writer, became one of the most celebrated novelists in New York. Emme was happy for him but continued to write on the side, penning her mystery novels under the new pen name C. N. Edwards, after her children. It did not take long for Emme’s success under her pseudonym to eclipse that of her husband’s and in his envy, he falsely claimed to the public that he was the true writer. Emme was utterly livid and she stole her children away, her husband’s act of betrayal severing their bond. A few months later, Emme learns he committed suicide after losing all of his inspiration.
As Emme’s children grew, they became artists themselves. Her son became a playwright and her daughter a classical soprano. Emme knew however that she could only bond with one child and she was faced with a terrible decision. Andres, being the older, kinder one of the two, offered that Emme bond with Angelique, to help launch his sister’s career and for her to become a star. With a heavy heart, Emme agreed and soon Angelique was head-lining all shows on the New York scene while Andres continued to work tirelessly, desperately on his own craft. Soon, however he began to develop feelings of bitterness, resentment, insecurity. Near hopelessness, Andres turns to the black market, taking muse blood in secret in order to spark inspiration, not knowing that it’ll eventually lead to his death. Slowly, little by little, Andres began having small successes here and there, his work often a hit and miss with the public. It became a vicious cycle - the earnings he got from his successful plays used to buy muse blood and further increase his debt.
Then one night, as the brood of three were heading over to watch the staging of one of Andres’ plays, the family was ambushed by a couple of thugs, hired by Andres’ dealer after going months without paying his debt. Andres tells them to run, that he’ll hold them off, but Emme and Angelique refuse to leave him. In the struggle, both of her children are killed and Emme severely wounded.
Only Angelique wakes up once more, chosen to be a muse like her mother.
Emme and Angelique live together in a small apartment in present day New York. Angelique has bonded with a talented violinist, who is also her wife, and she continues to teach and perform music at Juilliard. Emme’s last bonded artist, a sweet, elderly poet, just passed 2 years ago and she’s in no hurry to look for another. Then, one night, when Emme comes home late after work, she finds Angelique missing. There are no clues, no evidence of foul play. She reports it to the police immediately and a man hunt ensues, but in the end the detective in charge deems it a cold case. Emme is transformed by her grief, losing one too many children, and she swears to find the person who took her daughter to make him pay, by any means necessary.

if the world of art had been more forgiving, perhaps vaughn could’ve made something of himself in it. even without muses, it’s a dog-eat-dog world, relying on connections, arrogance, willingness to slit a few (metaphorical, mostly) throats. he had the connections part down, at least in england, where his family was rich and aristocratic, but as the son of a union disapproved of by the general family, those elite social circles were reluctant to let him in. honestly, he was happy like that, looking in from the outskirts. only – the desire to create, to make art, it was overwhelming, consuming his every waking thought. every breath, every movement itched with the need to make something; perhaps it was the cloying way his parents controlled him, the secret longing for a lover he could never have, but something in his soul demanded to be expunged, immortalised on the canvas. his parents had the idea of sending him to new york, a city with jaws wide enough to swallow someone like vaughn whole. at first, it almost did, but that desire was so strong that he held on by the skin of his teeth, sneaking in to events, forgoing food to buy canvases, snatching grainy photos of people who inspired him as they whipped past on the subway. he knew there was something missing, a depth other art had and his just /lacked/, but he didn’t realise quite what until he met his own muse.

In Character – Details
wynn copeland is the kind of person that can only be found in an alley late at night, odd stain on her clothing, wild laughter at any question that might be posed. she’s given up all chances at a normal life since running into marlowe. fading off the radar after spectacularly failing out of graduate school, wynn knows that she lives a life style that has everyday set up to be her last. she cleans the majority of the rooms at head in the clouds, trusted with secrets that most muses don’t know about, let alone humans. her loyalty is her life. and she’s fine with that. it’s made for way more fun. she’s even got to experiment with a few crimes of her own—sorry to delilah drake.
her hobbies include elaborately staging crime scenes, convincing various state authorities that they have active serial killers on the loose, poking fun at those too weak to handle the club, and tying up loose ends. if you’re interacting with her, you’re likely either very close to death or can’t be touched by it. it hardly matters to her, she’s just going to think of the best way to turn your body into a snowman. she loves leaving all those clues.
