Art Project 5 : Open Work
Free.
Statement
For this last project I decided to do a digital drawing of something that I enjoy drawing--it is pretty much it. I love drawing wings and nature, they seem so unrestricted from this world and free. I think I thought of this work mainly because I have been stuck at home for most of the semester, as many others have. But today not only marks the end of one of the hardest semesters for me personally, but also the day I got my final vaccine shot! I feel free from a lot of doubt and worry, and this in a way represents that. Despite me being ready to, what seems like, start over, I will dearly miss this class. There are so many amazing artists that I immensely enjoyed seeing their work, this class has so many great creatives! I'm thankful that this is our last assignment, its a real treat to create with no limitations-- like we are really free!
I hope that everyone enjoys their summer break and it was great being in this class with yall. If yall got socials where you post your art, I would love to follow you on them! -Danny

this was a very effective performance that carries a powerful message. The colors are beautiful as well, despite their true meaning. I really enjoyed watching this.

Art Project 4: One Minute Performance: Part 1
WOW. This was really hard for me to do but I hope everyone enjoys it.
I had to speed up this 3 minute video to get it down to a minute, so it’s pretty fast and I apologize for that.
I also encourage you to take a look at part 2 because I am incredibly happy with the picture I was able to get :)

lord I relate to this. A very real and powerful message. it hits hard when you are there for so many others but yourself-- I am glad that you are taking it slow and giving yourself your time.
This is my performance piece for unit 4.
I have struggled with people pleasing for a long time. It has made me resent others in relationships, as well as blame myself for their shortcomings. During the pandemic, I had less and less to give to myself, and spent much more time aiding others. I’ve worked hard to unlearn some of this behavior, but I have to watch myself. I can’t put all of my spoons in one place. I need to give myself time to recuperate and work through my own things before helping others. If I have a limited amount of spoons, I need to be wise with them.

Such lovely work, thank you for sharing it! I'm glad we got to get a taste of your work, they are beautiful.
Artist Statement 4
For my one minute performance, I chose to paint a set of fake nails. Doing nail art is a way that I express my creativity, and after I paint a set and wear it I feel so much more confident and showcase whatever I’m trying to express. The design I chose to paint was a rainbow on the tip of the nails, I chose a rainbow 🌈 because of a particular story in the first book of the Bible that is a story about rainbows.
“It shall come about, when I bring clouds over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the clouds, and I will [compassionately] remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again will the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the rainbow is in the clouds and I look at it, I will [solemnly] remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” Genesis 9:14-16 AMP
This is a story about a promise made to us by God to cause no harm to us, and to care for us despite our brokenness and sin. This story always reminds me of spring because that’s when we see the most rainbows here in Colorado. The special moments are a beautiful reminder of how loved and cared for we are by Him, and that no matter how hard the past season was, He brings life and beauty into the next. Spring to me every year is a reminder of how we aren’t always in a season of growth, we will inevitably have cold and harsh winters and times that push us down, but we are promised redemption and life so no matter how hard it might be now better is going to come.

I want to do this so badly I can understand your discomfort with this-- showing myself and eating on camera is something I very much dislike as well. but this came out great, and i'm glad that you shared it!
Art Project #4: One Minute Performance
The idea for this project came to me sporadically. I had just ordered $50 worth of takeout food for myself and on my drive home I envisioned a low lit room with faint tv noises and the emphasis of food. When I began recording it felt right to indulge, so I did. I enjoy this video and it makes me slightly uncomfortable

One Minute Performance | 𝟹 𝙿𝙼 𝚂𝙺𝙴𝚃𝙲𝙷
I was having a very hard time coming up with a good idea for this project—luckily I had my roommate and boyfriend around to help me brainstorm. Ultimately, I decided on trying my hand in making a short comedy sketch featuring myself, my roommate and my cat! I had a lot of fun making this and felt more comfortable than I thought I would. I normally hate acting, hearing my own voice, and being on camera...but I was actually okay with getting it done! I think my want to make something enjoyable outweighed my camera-shyness. The editing was also fun to do! None of the original audio is included—it was all added in post! I really hope the short is readable and maybe a little goofy, that was the vibe I was going for when I made it. Overall I had a lot of fun with this project, it brought me out of comfort zone but in a good way! I’m excited to possibly do performance art in the future.

Honestly this gives me anxiety. Its a reminder that time never stops, something that we are always reminded of. The fear of not doing something fast enough, of running out of something you cannot refill. But its often forgotten to take some time for yourself, it adds into the never-ending clock that keeps ticking away. great work!

This definitely hits home. The hesitation of crossing to an unfamiliar new, going forward in your life. you long to stay on the other side, comfortable with what you know, but eventually everyone has to cross the street by themselves. The looming danger of cares, the fear you wont see them in time, but you still have to go. Its so simple as others were saying, such an easy task. But some roads in life are terrifying to cross, but rewarding when you succeed in taking the risk.
CROSSING - PERFORMANCE ART PIECE
Artist Statement:
In devising this piece, I kept thinking about the concept of crossing over. I constantly hear “Remember to look both ways!” in the back of my mind every time I encounter a street crossing. I think it’s a remnant from when I was a kid learning to ride a bike.
Sometimes, even if you look both ways, something bad still happens. Sometimes, you won’t look both ways and nothing will happen. Sometimes you’re on the sidewalk when your life changes…sometimes you find yourself in the middle for the street. All we can do is look both ways and hope for the best. I wanted to convey that tension in my slow deliberate head movements. I wanted to unsettle the viewer and make them uncomfortable with me in the middle of the street - poised as though I’m ready to spring into motion - but remaining absolutely still except for my change of focus.
In this piece, I am wearing the clothes I would normally wear running (when I cross many streets). The actual action of the piece was slightly longer than one minute, but this is the condensed version.
Think the next time you are “crossing”.

I absolutely adored this. its beautiful, powerful, and professionally done. The colors bursting from the black balloons show creativity flowing i feel! Its also interesting that you area wearing a black shirt, as if to express that same color in the balloons are inside you as well. Well done!

Performance: 2020s
Artist statement:
This is a rather simple performance, yet I feel that it connected most strongly with me and this year. out of the options I've explored, it felt the most sincere, mainly because of its bluntness. its supposed to represent what I've (and many others) have been doing almost since the start of the new decade. Whenever i think of this year and last, all i see is my hands typing on the computer. Whether its communicating with friends or doing online classes, this was my new life. I wanted it to feel trapped, which is why the shot is so closed in. I also thought that the silence being repeatedly broken by the sounds of the keyboard demonstrated what constantly rings in the heads of many nowadays. Things are getting better, however, and i hope they stay that way for a while. -Danny

This was beautiful, i love the contrast in colors to represent the difference between reality and dreams. I especially like the scene when she goes back to sleep and the dream picks up again-- love that transition! -Danny
youtube
Sweet Dreams:
My goal was to contrast these very painterly scenes against something that is trying to more closely resemble reality. I wanted to embrace the ideas of dreaming and anxiety and how they interact with one another. I wanted to focus on these instances of creativity as sparks throughout the day, remnants of dreams, as the contrast with reality.

Art Project 3: One Minute Supercut
Beyonce the GOAT
With the conclusion of Women’s History month, I dreamed it necessary to dedicate this super cut to Beyoncé Knowles Carter, who made history this past February as the most Grammy winning female in history.
Beyonce has made in appearance in several of my projects this semester so it is no surprise that I am a stan.
I wanted to dedicate this to Beyonce for more reasons that me just being a fan, however. In order to make history and accomplish all that she has during her 20+ year, requires a work ethic that most do not posses.
Furthermore, Beyonce has transformed into more than just a recording artist. She is a philanthropist, activist, and feminist. She is also a pillar in the Black community for more reasons than I can explain.
She is a class act and deserves to go down in history.

This was so amazingly beautiful-- from where the shots and narration was placed to the contrast between the vivid flag and the monochrome film. it shows just how far things have come, and that people should never stop fighting. - Danny

Project 3: One Minute Supercut, R A I N B O W
Artist Statement: I was having a very difficult time figuring out exactly what I should do for this project—it is pretty open ended. I began to think, and although I am not as vocal about it as some are, I am openly bisexual. Thus, LGBTQ rights are very near and dear to my heart.
I wanted to make something that was both beautiful, empowering, yet grim. The stark change between the making of the flag and the pride parade/protest was a very important aspect to me. It was difficult to try and convey all these messages in a one minute video, however, I am very proud of the final project. I think I accomplished everything I wanted to. I also had a lot more fun working on this project versus my music video; I think it is because this felt more meaningful than what I did for that assignment.
I used imovie with this project which I really liked, although imovie isn’t as user friendly as I first thought. I ran into a few issues trying to line up my clips with the song. Luckily I was able to slowly adjust it so that it all worked out!
I honestly cannot wait to see everyone else’s projects. This is essentially, my first experience making video art, and it has been really fun and wildly informative!
