it’s been a hot minute

I have a bit of an update

I haven’t known what to say lately because I feel like everything that can be said has been said- and I’m a white girl living in the suburbs. What can I do? And I’ve spent so many nights lately just sad and feeling helpless...

Then I attended my first protest today. I haven’t known how to take action cuz my anxiety and depression has been so bad with the state of the world. But, today I was sick of being scared and silent. Black lives matter. If you don’t believe that or you think all lives matter- unfollow me right now. I have the privilege of living in a city where the police worked with us and cared for us and I felt safe making the oppressed’s voices heard. I educated myself more because I grew up so sheltered and small minded. But not everyone has that privilege so I’m using mine to make a change. I know a tumblr post won’t change much- but I hope it’ll inspire or at least get people out of my lives, feed, or followers that think this shit is okay. I have the privilege of hiding the parts of me that others hate or don’t understand, but my black friends cannot. So with my voice I can speak, I can fight.

If you’re not angry or scared about the state of our county or the state of the world right now, check your priveledge. Take the time today to listen to those voices screaming, and in the end, show empathy, kindness and love to those who are hurting. This isn’t my pain, but I’ll help where I can.

I just saw a video of Britney Spears tearing apart a group of men who called her body guard the n word. He had to hold her back because her knee jerk reaction was to maul them like a mama bear on the loose. And then she walks away while holding a comforting hand on his back.

Kori Ariadne Dorsey

Kori Dorsey never thought she'd be back in Olympus, but after 5 years, a week vacation from her mom and college, and a summons on her kitchen table, Kori found herself at the steps of the Olympians throne room. The amount of anger Kori felt seeing the building and being in Olympus made her want to rip the summons to shreds and go home. But, she pushed herself to walk up the steps, because the gods made it perfectly clear that the summons was urgent and she would be hunted and dragged here against her will if she ignored it. Being dragged to Olympus by the gods wasn't on her list of things to be embarrassed by, and she didn't feel like being mocked by the demigods, so she straightened her back, held her chin high, and pushed the marble stone doors open. Her name was announced immediately by Hermes, the gods messenger. "Kori Ariadne Dorsey, Daughter of Hades!"

Kori shuddered at the mention o her father and shot the messenger god a dirty look. He smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, kid. Part of the job." Hermes looked different since the last time Kori saw him. Strange to think an immortal god would age, but wrinkles don't lie. His blonde hair was shaggier now and darker brown. The last day Kori was here, Hermes had light brown, nearly blonde, hair. He was shorter now, or maybe he was just slouching. Kori couldn't tell with him in the air. "Nice to see you." She told him, then turned her attention to the crowded room. Demigods mulled around, talking, getting to know each other or cathing up. None of them seemed to care that they were here for an urgent problem, which infuriated Kori even more. The thrones were arranged in a U-shape. Large, completely different styled, thrones that took up half of the room. None of the gods were sitting in the chairs. Infact, they were walking around the room, chatting as well. Kori was starting to wonder if Zeus was just trying to get her to show up at one of his stupid parties. The first year away from Olympus, Zeus constantly sent her summons to one of his 'ragers' to which she would impolitely decline. After that first year, he finally got the hint and quit sending them to her.

Kori turned to Hermes, crossing her arms over her chest. She could feel the warmth on her cheeks from her anger. "Did I get an urgent summons to a party? In a place I specifically said I did not want to be at anymore?"

Hermes chuckled nervously. "Well, yes, buuuuuttt-"

"Unbelievable!" Kori threw her arms up, the summons flying out of her hands. "Where is he?!"

Hermes pointed to across the room, where Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades stood chatting and eating food. Kori snatched the summons back up and marched through the crowd, staring straight at Zeus. "Hey! Lightning god!" She barked, snatching his attention. He quickly his behind Poseidon. "What the hell is this?!" Kori stopped right in front of them, holding the summons up. "I told you I didn't want to come to your stupid parties! I don't even want to be here! 7 years, Zeus!" She could feel flames dancing around her, something that's only just started happening when she got angry. Kori was angry a lot. Poseidon stepped out of Koris way as she yelled, leaving Zeus defenseless. "I uhm...Wait," Zeus stammered, then stood up straight, squinting his eyes at the summons. "I didn't send that to you." He said after examining the paper. Kori laughed, a short, annoyed laugh. "Then who did?"

"We did." The voice startled Kori out of her anger. She turned around quickly and gasped. In front of her stood five of her old friends--Jasper Yates, son of Apollo, Sienna Robinson, daughter of Poseidon, Sam Perez, son of Athena, Xander Benson, son of Demeter, and Charlie Arnold, son of Zeus. "Wait, why did you summon me?" She asked them. They all looked uncomfortable, which made Kori feel awkward. "Actually, I technically did." Hades said. Kori tilted her head to him, glaring. "We've got a lot to discuss. Zeus, I'm calling a meeting."

The Olympians took their places on their thrones, the room completely silent now with a few minor gods standing around uncomfortably. "Alright, Hades, what's the meaning of this?" Zeus asks, his voice sounded almost whinny. "The Protector of Ember is dead." Hades announced, and Kori saw each and every person in the room begin to panic. "Ember? Who is that?" Kori asked. "What." Hades corrected. "Ember is the stone of purple flames. It was a stone that Hekate and I created, a stone so powerful only a human can protect it."

Hades voice boomed and echoed against the walls of the room. "The Protector was killed, and the stone is gone." He continued. "I sense it is being held by a demigod, but I can't be sure. Hekate is missing, which means the power of that stone is missing too." Kori shifted uncomfortably. The thought of a stone holding the power of the King of the Underworld and the Goddess of Witchcraft made Kori feel absolutely cold to her bones. "What exactly do you mean Hekate is missing?" Charlie asked, stepping forward. Hades sat back in hi throne, eyeing him. "Missing. I've been searching everywhere for her. She's just, gone." He said. "Hekate has been missing for 17 years." Jasper said, stepping up next to Charlie. 17 years? Kori hadn't heard about Hekate missing for 17 years. "Correction," Hera chimed in. "She's been in hiding for 17 years. She is actually missing now, which isn't good whatsoever for Olympus." Hera tapped her gold glowing finger against her throne, smiling sadly. "Ugh, good riddance." Ares yelled from his throne. Hades placed a hand over his head and groaned. "Can you all shut up please?" He bellowed. "Yeah, this stone is dangerous. If the power is absorbed, it would create a monster for all of us." Zeus said. "So what do you propose we do, Hades?" Everyone looked at Hades, and he shook his head. "I don't know. Without Hekate, I can't locate the stone. I can't sense Ember." He shut his eyes and furrowed his eyebrows, a face he makes when he thinks. "Hekate has a daughter. Marisa Aguirre. She has a kingdom hidden in the Amazon Rainforest. She's the queen of Magic. If you could find her, you could get her to help track the stone." Hades looks at each demigod. Kori scrunched her face and stepped forward. "Now hold on a second. Why do we have to search for her? Why can't you?" Hades studied Kori like a lab rat, and her confidence faded. "Because I do not travel to the kingdom of Magic and necromancy. It's not my territory." He said, coldly. Kori stepped back, gulping. "I'm going to pick the demigods who I want to-"

"Hey wait!" A gruffy girls voice barked from the back of the crowd. A short, stocky, 16 year old pushed her way through to the front, anger and annoyance pasted on her face. Ruth Chandler, daughter of Ares, and a girl Kori never wanted to tustle with. "Who was the Protector?" Ruth had a scar going over her lip that curled and wrinkled when she spoke. It annoyed Kori. "That will be disclosed to the nine Heros called." Hades replied. "When I call your name, step up. After announcing, anyone not called will be requested to leave." Zeus groaned. "This is why you never get invited to parties," he muttered. Hades grunted in annoyance. "Charlie Arnold!" Hades yelled. Zeus looked at Hades stunned. "Bro!"

Hades ignored him and continued with his list. "Kori Dorsey, Sienna Robinson, Jasper Yates, Sam Perez, Cecelia Haines, Ruth Chandler, Priya Glenn, and Xander Benson." Each demigod stepped up and when Hades finished, the rest of the demigods scrambled out of the room. "The nine of you are my heros." Hades said, then looked at Kori sadly. "I'm sorry you have to find out this way, but your mother was the Protector." Kori stared at him in shock. "Excuse...me?" Hera scoffed. "That was hardly the way to tell her! Insolent man!" Goddesses and Gods began speaking over each other, but the sound faded out from Kori. The room spun and she felt sick. Her mother told her she was going on a vacation with her disgustingly dumb boyfriend. Never did Kori think her boyfriend would kill her, so what happened. Kori stumbled back, covering her mouth. Her stomach churned. She wasn't close to her mom but she still cared about her. She was the only family Kori had left and now she's being told that her mom is dead. Kori felt a hand on her shoulder and she drunkenly turned to see Sam's concerned grey eyes. "Kori?" She could hear his voice clearly; pristine and unfaded. "I-I-" she stammered, removing her hand from her face. Sam pulled her in for a hug, and she could feel her body trembled as she sobbed. What an interesting and horrible start to her day. Kori knew it was only going to get worse.

Hey I'm not dead. Also I'm writing a story and made a tumblr for it. I posted the first chapter, it's not super great and is all over the place, but I've been spending so much time on different parts of it and needed to start somewhere. @emberofhades is the tumblr, I really hope you guys give it a read. I've been really into Greek mythology a lot more and have always loved the subject so this project actually just feels nice to do since ive been in a horrible deppresive funk for a while. It's just nice to have motivation for something.
