Dilandau, how do you intend to resolve your conflict with Van? I understand that the moon girl is a bit out of your reach at the moment, but the man who scarred your face is just walking around out there. Does Van ever visit the estate, or do you never see him? I imagine it's difficult to plot revenge with Allen breathing down your neck all the time.

I don’t think you get it, do you? Ruining my face is the least of the unforgivable things that bastard piece of shit has done to me. I lost everything because of him - everything! I built my reputation and my rank on sweat and fire and the heads of Zaibach’s enemies when I was fourteen fucking years old. I stepped on and over men with more combat experience than I had life experience to get there, I went through day after day of grimy sweaty shit-stinking battle under incompetent old men who couldn’t handle being outdone by someone with more raw talent than they’ve ever even dreamed of having. I made the best goddamn guymelef unit Zaibach’s ever seen and I did it by myself, with my own hard work and tenacity and good judgement, not because I had connections or money or because someone felt obligated to compensate me with rank for time served. And I. Lost. EVERYTHING. Because of HIM.

Can you even begin to imagine what that feels like? I don’t think you can. I really, really don’t think you have the slightest inkling of what it’s like to lose everything you’ve ever cared about or been proud of.

I know what you’re thinking: “But Van lost things too!” You know what he lost because of me? Nothing - because until I showed up, that little bastard had never earned a thing in his life. The kingdom I burned? He inherited that. (Inheritance means you getting handed something important regardless of your ability to appreciate it or protect it or help it reach its full potential - it just belongs to you because you happened to be born into the right family. It’s bullshit.) And literally every other thing he says I did to him was his fault for being too much of a coward to stand and fight for that kingdom! Castelo Fort? His fault. Palas? His fault. Are you starting to see a pattern here?

And, you know, despite my best efforts I never did kill anyone close to him that I know of, so really, I don’t think he has any right to feel put out.

Anyway, to answer your question, I want to do to Van exactly what he did to me. I want to utterly and completely annihilate everything that has ever mattered to him. And then I want to string him up by his intestines and watch him spin in the breeze.

And if I ever find out he’s stepped foot on this estate and I wasn’t informed, I’m going to hang Allen upside down by his dick and piss up his nose.

What are your thoughts on General Adelphos?

In what capacity, exactly?

I mean, I'd definitely rather serve under him than any of the others - those old men have no idea how a real war is supposed to be fought. But it's not like General Adelphos and I were particularly friendly.

One thing I can definitely say about the General, though - he respected my abilities. Most of the higher-ups were a little upset about how much I was able to accomplish at my age. But you know, natural talent counts for a lot. I'd rather take a fresh recruit with talent than an old man with experience and no talent at all any day, and I guess Adelphos would too. So there's that.

Dilandau-sama, tell us something about your relations with Folken. How is he like? I saw you drinking wine with him, so he isn't that bad?

I don't like Folken. A real man doesn't betray his country, even if it happens to be a worthless little shithole like Fanelia. Besides, Folken's no soldier, he's a scholar - he has no business telling me how to do my job.

As for socializing with the man, well... he's the Strategos, so it can't really be helped. He's not a bad tactician, after all, and he has access to a lot of useful information. But he's unbelievably boring and he always keeps me waiting. I hate waiting.

And you know, I didn't actually destroy any countries. Fanelia is a city-state at best, and we only burned the capitol, not the countryside and the villages in it... Maybe we should have. But, again, what part of following orders is too complex for you to understand?

You, on the other hand... Tell me, Van, at what point is killing a man who's screaming and crying out for his captain's help honorable? If you'd given them half a chance, my Dragonslayers would have retreated once it was obvious that we couldn't subdue you - but no, you kept attacking until you'd killed every last one of them. Land Dragon Stew Recipe

Hunting dragons is fine, but what do you do once you've killed one? Well, for starters, you can cook it! (You can also butcher it for parts, but that's messy work.)

INGREDIENTS 2-3 lbs dragon meat (your choice of cut; the tail is fattier than most other areas) 2 onions 1 tsp salt 1/2 lb carrots 1 tsp culantro vinegar, lime 1 sweet pepper 1 tsp. black pepper 1/2 lb cabbage 2 cloves garlic 1/4 lb tomato coconut oil

METHOD: 1. Clean the meat, removing the skin and scales. Wash thoroughly in vinegar and lime. 2. Slice the meat into manageable chunks, or cut it into small steaks and make several cuts about halfway through it to allow the seasonings to soak in. Vigorously rub in the seasonings - salt, black pepper, onions, garlic, culantro and sweet pepper. Let stand for about 20 mins. 3. Place enough coconut oil in the pot to cover the bottom and place it over heat. Add the meat once the oil is thoroughly heated through. Pour in just enough water to cover the ingredients. Keep turning and adding water as necessary for about 30 mins. 4. Slice the remaining ingredients and add them to the stew pot. Let everything simmer together for at least another 30 mins.
