Watching a video about Blackout, an Erika Chappell RPG and realising that maybe history in Izzy's World, while of course meticulously researched and documented, but as a fantasy setting first, should be recounted orally by the survivor generation, the now elderly generation of those who participated, often against their will, during the many conflicts of the Great Conflict.

Realizing that the computers of this setting wouldn't work like sillica based computing.

A major problem that I haven't quite gotten around to solving it trying to make the flying ring computers make sense thematically.

Why have weirdass computers like these instead of normal ones? What makes these more special other than they have a weird set up.

A while ago I made the joke that appearance wise they're suppose to mimic ancient astrologists looking up to the stars for answers.

And then recently it struck me.

Why not just extend the metaphor into the literal?

The machines work by accessing the noosphere, a global collective consciousness, and by having it closer to heaven they can get a better answer faster.

They're not electric calculators; they're fantasy search engines.

... I really ought to draw up a map of the city to get a good idea of how the city and surrounding areas are divided.

Seeing another person's worldbuilding and realizing obviously the Guild of Farmers and Out-City Workers wouldn't be a traditional guild at all.

In fact, the farmers and out-city workers would be multiple different vaguely an-com polities.

They still have a representative guild to help sort out business in the city but otherwise they'd all be of different individual communes.

Very, very quickly realising the utility of having a separate entity to loredump because a major problem I had years ago back when I was in the RP scene fully was waiting for people to ask the right questions.

Now I can just say all I want and then tuck it away in a tag and it doesn't get in the way of anything.

What Izzy is referring to is the Great War, the catch-all term for a decade long series of armed conflict over the remaining sources of natural gas and crude oil.

The city runs mostly on solar and wind farms, while smaller power plants such as backup generators and cars run on ethanol, derived from local biomass processing. The country also imports excess geothermal energy from its more volcanicly active neighbors from the south.

Certainly not older methods tho. At least, natural gas hasn't been in fashion for more than half a century as far as I'm aware.

Gonna take a page from Disco Elysium again and introduce these two:

On the left is Calculated Understanding, who will show up to help explain what has been discovered and understood by the people of the setting (tech and history).

On the right is Universal Knowledge, who will show up to explain things that haven't been discovered (the finer inner workings of the setting like how Magic actually functions and other details.)

They'll be here to help supplement some questions that Izzy wouldn't be capable of explaining plus coloring in details in a hopefully fun way.

I drive a Model G-H '84 with parts from Kudas Auto-Carriages Parts and General Milling! I saved up a lot to get the kit and built it over a year!
