The British State? Hiding racism and misogyny? Surely not.
I know the BBC gets a lot of stick, but the work on this by Daniel De Simone is excellent, persistent journalism.
"MI5 lied "deliberately and repeatedly" as it tried to defend its handling of a neo-Nazi agent who abused women, the BBC has told a panel of High Court judges."
"MI5 agent X terrorised his partner with a machete."
"The case, which began in 2022 with an attempt to block the BBC from publishing a story about the neo-Nazi agent, has become a major test of how the courts view MI5 and the credibility of its evidence."

I read Against Our Will over a decade ago for an intro to politics class, and I still think about it at least once a week.
Susan Brownmiller, author of the landmark book on sexual assault ‘Against Our Will,’ dies at 90
Thank you, Susan Brownmiller, for sharing your gifts.
Thank you for your courage and for speaking this hard truth.

Isn't it odd how much fatter a book gets when you've read it several times? As if something were left between the pages every time you read it. Feelings, thoughts, sounds, smells... and then, when you look at the book again many years later, you find yourself there too.. a slightly younger self, slightly different, as if the book had preserved you like a pressed flower... both strange and familiar.
- Cornelia Funke, The Inkheart

Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.

Whenever I need a positivity boost I watch the highlights of the 2019 champions league semi final at Anfield, and for 45 minutes everything is right in the world and anything seems possible.
"There's one back"
"Oh it's in!!"
"Liverpool are all the way back"
"They've caught Barcelona napping!"

Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

“Jane and Cassy – I don't know if they had cats, but they were essentially the pinnacle of the ‘childless cat lady,’” she says. “And look what their legacy is. They didn't have kids, they didn't marry. I think it's so wonderful to see platonic love – whether that's friendship between women, whether that's sisterhood – explored on TV. Maybe it isn’t explored as much as it should be.” - Synnøve Karlsen - HARPER'S BAZAAR

the American Historical Association held a debate and membership vote condemning the scholasticide in gaza during its annual conference two weeks ago. the vote passed 428-88. today, the membership council vetoed the vote, "because it lies outside the scope of the Association’s mission and purpose, defined in its Constitution as" the study and preservation of history.
the AHA had no such qualms issuing multiple statements condemning the russian invasion of ukraine, supporting both ukrainians and their state
