5 Times Oikawa Opened Up To Iwaizumi, and 1 Time Iwaizumi Opened Up to Oikawa.

1.

"Iwa-channnnn!!!" cried Oikawa over the phone, "Why is your mom so mean?!"

"Tch, Tooru, you can't call me that anymore! We're nine now! And don't ask me, ask Professor Itadori and the buttload of homework he gave my class."

Oikawa rolled around angrily on his bed, mad at the stupid teacher and Iwa-chan's stupid, strict mom.

Iwaizumi was about to hang up on his bothersome friend, but the other boy interrupted just before he could.

"I just.." he started, "we haven't been hanging out as much! We're in different homerooms and- ugh! Iwa, I just miss hanging out with you!"

There was a pregnant pause on the line, until Iwaizumi spoke.

"Tooru, I didn't know you felt that way. I'm sorry. Let's hang out tomorrow, okay?"

Iwaizumi could hear a soft sniffle on the other line, then a meek "Okay, see you then."

Iwaizumi couldn't stiffle the grin that slowly creeped onto his face. Sure, maybe Tooru was childish sometimes, but Iwaizumi wouldn't trade his best friend for the world.

"Hey Tooru, can you set for me?" questioned Iwaizumi, hand rubbing the back of his neck.

Oikawa's head darted up to look at the other boy. He giggled, "Sure Iwa! Let me refill my water first." Before Iwaizumi could offer to set anything up, his team mate was already jogging down the hallway.

Sighing, he transferred the volleyballs scattered across the gym into the basket they would use.

Iwaizumi hesitated to ask Tooru if he wanted to stay back with him. They had to pick a highschool pretty soon, and he didn't want to stress his best friend out too much.

Before he could bite his nails even more, Oikawa came back in the gym.

Tooru caught his gaize with his own an beamed, "Okay! You ready, Iwa-chan?"

The spiker nodded, and hustled to his position.

The two boys practiced until they had to gather all the balls three times, and on the fourth Iwaizumi figured they should call it quits.

The two of them put the net down and away, and started changing into their regular shoes.

"Thanks for staying, Tooru. I know you've been busy." choked out Iwaizumi.

Oikawa looked up, eyes darting over all the features of his friends face. "Iwa, I'll always make time for you. Even if I'm busy for twenty-three hours of the day, I'll call you during the twenty-fourth."

Iwaizumi's breath caught in his throat. He barely muttered out a "Thanks, man."

Hopefully Oikawa didn't notice how red the tips of his ears were.

3.

Summer vacation! The best part of any year. Iwaizumi was lucky, usually the transition summer between middle school and high school is lonely. But Iwaizumi couldn't be lonely for long, because Tooru was always right by his side.

Well...

"Ladies, ladies!" announced Oikawa. "I appreciate the attention, I really do. But, I'm busy right now!"

Iwaizumi wanted to tell Tooru that it's okay, that he can chat with the random girls for a while.

But the minuscule voice in the back of his head is whispering to him. Telling him to push the girls away. He doesn't want to share Tooru!

It's weird. Before this summer, that voice was never there. Or maybe it was, just too quiet to hear.

Too entranced in thought to pay attention to whatever was going on, Iwaizumi had whiplash from how quickly his best friend grabbed his wrist and dragged him away from his own mind.

The tips of Iwaizumi's ears burned, and not from the sun. Tooru's hand was so close to his!

After the pair stomped away for a moment, Tooru led them to a halt. They were at the playground.

It's been here since before either of them were born. The slide had some rust on it's underbelly, and the swings creaked with every push. But no one ever came to the park except for them. It was their spot.

"Iwa! Push me!" ordered Oikawa.

Iwaizumi scoffed, "What's the magic word, your majesty?"

Tooru crossed his arms and snobbishly turned his nose to the sky. He was really on a high horse after those girls swarmed him, but Iwaizumi wasn't planning on giving in.

Iwaizumi couldn't help himself- he really tried not to, but he couldn't resist laughing at his best friend! Tooru seriously thought he could order around Iwaizumi like that? No way!

Oikawa dramatically flipped his head backwards, scoffing. "You wound me, Iwa! My ever so caring best friend has betrayed me! What ever shall I do?"

Iwaizumi wiped the stray tear falling down his cheek, trying to regain his composure. After laughing at Tooru, he decided to sit next to his friend.

It was quiet for a moment, the creaking of the swings filling up the silence. Until Tooru softly spoke,

"I don't like being chased around by girls," he sighed, picking at his fingernails. "sorry they keep bugging us. Iwa-chan, never forget that I'll never ditch you for a stupid girl, okay? Even if she's super cool, I swear I won't!"

Iwaizumi laughed a little at the last bit, and gently punched Tooru on his shoulder. "Thanks Tooru. Don't worry, if you ever ditched me for a girl, I'd beat you up before your first date!"

The two boys walked back to Oikawa's house after that, goofing around on the way home.

"Well, you win some and you lose some!" comforted Hanamaki. Unlike Iwaizumi, their newer friends didn't quite comprehend Oikawa's passion just yet.

Because most whining was reserved for Iwaizumi these days, Oikawa glanced up and flashed a smile. "You're right. No use crying over spilt milk!"

But his eyes... Oikawa's eyes gave him all away. To an untrained eye, the setter looked perfectly fine. But Iwaizumi has known him forever, and he can tell something's wrong.

"You guys wanna grab ice cream?" questioned Matsukawa. The four friends jumped up, arguing over who would pay.

Their trip was uneventful until they all sat down.

The three boys chatted to eachother, but Oikawa was slumped over on the table, letting the ice cream drip down his hand.

Matsukawa looked at Hanamaki from across the table. Those two could read each other's minds!

"Well, I better get home and finish my homework." Lied Matsukawa.

"Oh yeah! I need to clean the house. We're having guests tomorrow." Fibbed Hanamaki.

The two boys glanced at each other, both leaving some money on the table before wordlessly leaving.

Once they were gone, Iwaizumi spoke. "Your ice cream is dripping, Tooru."

Oikawa didn't make any effort to move. "Iwa, my soul is dripping. I played horribly!"

Iwaizumi delicately took the melting mess out of the setter's hands. "It really wasn't that bad. We're only first years! It's lucky we got off the bench."

"That's the thing, Iwa!" Oikawa threw his arms in the air. "We're only first years. This was the chance to prove ourselves.. and I blew it!"

Iwaizumi wordlessly clasped Oikawa's hand.

Oikawa sniffled. "I'm horrible. I should just quit volleyba--"

"No!" exclaimed Iwaizumi. His eyes darted around the room, and luckily they were alone. "Tooru, you can't say that! Don't get down on yourself after one bad game." He looked at the setter's teary eyes before whispering, "You're the best volleyball player I've ever met.. so you can't quit, okay?"

Oikawa's eyes sparkled when he looked at Iwaizumi. He beamed and replied, "Thanks, Iwa-chan. Let's pay and go hang out at my place, okay?"

Iwaizumi laughed, and grabbed for the money Matsukawa and Hanamaki left for their part of the bill.

"Only 500 yen?! They're so cheap!"

Neither of them were actually angry, just happy to be laughing together once again; just like when they were younger.

Oikawa was insufferable.

But.. not how he usually is.

Obviously, Iwaizumi was rarely actually annoyed at Oikawa. And he isn't right now! Well..

"Why does he have to be so handsome!!" Iwaizumi screamed into his pillow. It was a week before graduation, and his goal was to ask out Tooru before then.

There's so many things to like about Oikawa, how could Iwaizumi pick just a handful to confess?

He grabbed for his phone to look up his answers, but he was interrupted by his mother poking her head through his door.

"Hajime sweetie, Tooru is here to hangout. Or go somewhere. I don't know, actually. Go greet him!"

Iwaizumi was too excited to see Tooru than to question anything. Tooru never knocks anymore, they just walk into eachother's houses. They had house keys for goodness sake!

But Iwaizumi ran down the stairs anyways.

"Hi Iwa" exclaimed Oikawa, his eyes flickering from the ground to the door until they finally land on Iwaizumi. "Let's go!"

Iwaizumi let himself get dragged along for a few paces while he composed himself. "Tooru." he started, hoping the other boy wouldn't look back and see how red his face was. "Where are we even going?"

Oikawa looked back and simply replied, "Don't worry Iwa- you'll find out soon enough!"

They ran all the way to a familiar place; the playground. They hadn't visited it a while, and it looks horrible. The slide was completely rusted over. The swings were hanging on by a sliver of metal, and the whole place seemed smaller.

"Tooru.. what are we doing here?" whispered Iwaizumi.

"Iwa. I'm gonna talk a lot, so please don't interrupt me, okay?"

Iwaizumi nodded, and Oikawa pulled two things out of his bag- a bag Iwaizumi hadn't noticed before.

A heavily decorated heart-shaped container weighed down Oikawa's hands, along with a small bouquet of roses.

Iwaizumi gulped. He wanted to assume, no- to hope, but he wouldn't let himself.

"Iwa-chan." Tooru bit his lip and swayed on his feet. "You're wonderful. I think you're the best person I've ever met."

Tooru shoved the box and the flowers into Iwaizumi's arms. "I realized I had a crush on you a month ago. I couldn't stop thinking about you."

Iwaizumi was sure he was dreaming, but Oikawa continued. "I wouldn't be where I am today without your support. You make me want to be the best person I can be."

Oikawa took a deep breath and asked the simplest, yet most important question of Iwaizumi's life.

"Will you be my boyfriend?"

No words were in Iwaizumi's mind. He had nothing to say. He was perfectly aware of how red his face was, but his tounge was tied. Never in his wildest dreams would this situation become a reality.

His silence was taken poorly, and Oikawa spluttered out in reply, "I'm sorry, I'll just go."

"Wait! Tooru!"

Oikawa spun around and stepped closer to Iwaizumi.

"Tooru. I'd love nothing more than to be your boyfriend. I didn't think this was real. If I'm dreaming, don't pinch me!"

The tears ran down both of their flushed faces. Iwaizumi threw his arms open and Oikawa fell into them. The two of them laughed and laughed like they were the only people in the universe.

Everything is perfect. There's not one thing that could ruin the night. Iwaizumi had made reservations at Tooru's favorite restaurant in Argentina, he has the perfect outfit, and the most important thing is resting in his suit pocket.

"Hajime! Where are we going?! You move to Argentina and suddenly your a big romantic?!" exclaimed Tooru, holding onto his boyfriend's arm.

"If I told you where we were going it'd ruin the suprise!" laughed Iwaizumi.

The pair joked as they walked down the street, until they stumbled into the restaurant.

"Iwa, you trickster! You took a different route than I usually take to get here!"

Hajime laughed with Oikawa as they sat down. "Tooru, can I just say you look dashing tonight."

Oikawa giggled. He really did look handsome! The light gray suit fit him well, and the teal tie was just the right pop of color. "You look ravishing yourself, Hajime."

Iwaizumi chuckled. The night was just beginning!

The pair ordered and ate their food, leaning against each other as Hajime paid. They didn't need to be this close, but they craved each other's warmth.

Hajime entwined his fingers with Tooru's as they strolled through the park. The crisp air wasn't too muggy but also wasn't too cool. The sun thought about setting, but settled just above the horizon. Just because it was too early to see the stars in the sky doesn't mean the boys didn't have stars in their eyes when they looked at each other.

"Tooru.." Hajime breathed out. He gaized at his boyfriend of seven years like he was the only person who existed.

Tooru inched closer to his lover and Hajime continued to speak. "Tooru you're.. perfect."

Hajime continued, "you're the most special person I've ever met. I don't know what I'd do without you. There's an infinite amount of spectacular things about you. I can't just pick a handful to tell you right now."

Iwazumi's free hand snuck into his pocket and returned with a small, velvet box. Hajime got on one knee, opened the box to reveal a golden ring, and proclaimed,

"Tooru, I will love you for eternity. Because I can't name every reason I love you right now, will you let me tell you everything I adore about you for the rest of our lives?"

Tears flooded Tooru's eyes and he jumped into his fiancé's loving embrace.

"Hajime! I love you so so much! Of course I'll marry you!" He peppered kisses all over his future husband's face.

The couple joyfully laughed in eachother's arms as the sun set behind them. The stars finally started to come out.

They had more reasons to love eachother than the number of stars in the sky.

"I love you, Iwa-chan" teased Hajime.

"You'll always be my Iwa-chan!" responded Tooru, kissing the other on the nose.

Fluff Week FAQ

General

Which characters/dynamics are you particularly interested in?

JJK – literally all common ones unless they’re illegal, particularly the first years & gojo (including all the variations - itafushi, platonic!itafushikugi, the gojo-megumi thing, the gojo-itadori thing, and of course, the much less explored megumi-nobara thing). No very-rare-pairs please, unless 100% platonic! I usually don’t like them. Also, bear in mind I may have to google characters if they come from Kyoto school because I literally forgot all their names.

HQ – I like most characters, but am especially fond of iwaoi and bokuaka (sakuatsu at a push). I love all team dynamics, with a special soft spot for the JNT and Seijoh. Again, no rare pairs please (even platonic, in this case) but I will know who most characters are!

TGCF: fengqing. I’m obsessed with fengqing. And hualian, of course. Basically Xianle trio + Hua Cheng and all their dynamics.

My favourite character is Hua Cheng, followed by Feng Xin, and then – you’ll hate me for this – Pei Ming. Please bear in mind that if you write about any niche characters from tgcf, or those that only appear later in the books, I will not know who they are :( He Xuan is about my limit for late-appearing characters, and he does not appear very late.

Do you mind which ships I use?

Not at all, as long as they aren't a major rarepair, or use characters I've never heard of. If you're not sure, don't be worried - you can always just ask! Either DM me or drop an ask in my inbox.

Are there any examples of found family you could suggest?

Yep! JJK is 100% found family, so there's no issue there - the school dynamic, gojo's dynamic with the students (particularly megumi), the first years' dynamic, the second years' dynamic, the teachers/adults dynamic...

HQ also has plenty of examples. Each team dynamic, duo dynamic, and mentor/mentee dynamic offers something new!

TGCF is a little harder. Nearly all the ships have an element of found family, but there's the Xianle trio and, if you want to get a bit ridiculous, the calamities can also be pretty funny if you wrangle them properly...

Fanfiction

Is reader insert ok?

I'd rather your not, but if you're only really comfortable with that, then go for it!

Is there a word count?

I'd like it to be over 1000 words, but I've yet to meet a writer who struggled with writing too little....

How would I post my work when the time comes?

Assuming you're posting on A03, please submit it to the Astronomical Fluff Week Collection (astronomical_fluff_week), and you can gift it to me if you like. More on this closer to the time!
