Athens Tango Project will be playing on August 31st. This special set will feature tango renditions of music from Athens GA including REM, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Pylon and more.

Athens Tango Project recently filmed for the new documentary film, SICYON: Celebrating the Creative Class in the Classic City. We’re very proud to be working with James Preston and Pity Party to realize his vision for his documentary on the arts in Athens, GA. Filmed a few songs including a piano piece by Jay Gonzalez and a cover of REM.

We are having a show on Oct. 3rd at Flicker in which we’ll collaborate with some local rock acts. We’re calling this the Athens Side Project since it’s a little different from what we usually do.

Here’s the schedule:

French Exit (10 PM) - Featuring AJ Griffin of Laminated Cat, The Olivia Tremor Control, and Circulatory System.

Athens Side Project (11 PM) - Athens Side Project is a collection of Athens Tango Project musicians collaborating with local rock musicians. Featuring the talents of Laura Camacho, John Phillips / Doctor Pogo, and Tereska Grynia,, the group will play a set of Astor Piazzolla and tango with a little more experimentation than usual. For this event AJ Griffin of The Olivia Tremor Control, Circulatory System, and Casper & the Cookies will be sitting in on a few songs.

Tabloid (Midnight) - Anthemic, jumpy pop rock from members of Little Gold, Hot Fudge, Blunt Bangs, Marshmallow Coast, and Guided by Guided by Voices.
