my beautiful husband (the man I've known for a month) is off to the war (going to work). I wave a hankerchief as he leaves (stand by the front door and stare at him like a dog) and I don't know if he's coming back (I miss him)

I'm sick and fucking tired of these new-age vampires. Maybe I'm just old, maybe I'm just spiteful, but new vampires (Victorian-age turned to present) make me mad. You talk about all of this loneliness, think you're the pinnacle of tragedy. You weren't around for the thousands of years it takes for loneliness to truly solidify in your heart. You may think you have it hard now, but give it an era or two to see the world decompose and your entire life along with it. Entire civilizations torn to pieces in front of your eyes. Every lover and friend you make is soon buried so deep underground you wouldn't be able to find them when humanity turns to dust. After the first few bygone eras have made it into history books you have to come to terms with the fact that you will be walking and wandering far longer than any God has, and will be far longer than any God will shine on this planet. This is the course of things and you have no hand in it. And I don't think the younger age of vampires know how horrible that can feel.
