Gregor Gillespie debut
Gregor made his debut against the winner from the fourth season of the Ultimate Fighter Brazil, Glaico Franca. The odds were near even with Gregor at +120 and Franca at -170. 》》From the beginning of the fight, Gregor stand up skills looked like they are at a low level. Franca was able to make Gregor look really uncomfortable by putting alot of pressure on him. For the most part Gregor is able to slip and circle our of the way but he is extremely hitable. His chin does hold up though. Franca landed a few massive over hand rights that connected with Gillespie flush, he looked stunned but never rocked. Even when Franca landed a knee on the chin Gregor looked unfazed and even powered through to get a takedown. Gregor’s offensive striking looks pretty low. He likes to throw a good jab straight combo, but he does not put enough forward pressure during the stand up. He definitely needs to work on footwork. 》》Where Gregor excel’s the most is his wrestling. Gregor was shooting in on takedowns out of no where and Franca was able to defend these easily. But when Gregor gets the takedown, there’s no getting up. Gregor has great hip pressure from the top. Even the effort spent on the working on the cage drained Franca out. He used so much pressure from the top, he was able to tire Franca and out work him, eventually winning him the unanimous decision. 》》I think the style Gregor has isn’t good enough for the higher end of the division, but his wrestling is so good at the lower level he can win most of match up he’s put in. I think he’s a good prospect to keep an eye on and see how his skills develop.
