trimax makes me want to cry for many reasons, but. the way the narrative consistently values Livio/Laszlo's happiness and safety as a system over their "recovery" ... it just gets to me. Many things could be said about this '90s depiction of plurality and it's not really my place to say them. however, the kindness, decency and forgiveness extended towards Livio and Laszlo are undeniable. Laszlo is not treated as a mental illness, a Problem to be excised if Livio is to have a happy ending — because he is not the problem. he never was. He is the bandaid Livio slapped over a gaping wound in his consciousness, a wound that never quite stopped bleeding through because the pain was too much for a child to bear, and it bled and bled until the bandaid became indistinguishable from the wound. so Laszlo & Livio survive this rugged wild west of a hellscape the only way Laszlo knows how. fighting a battle that is unique to them, living a tragedy no one else can fully comprehend — and Vash doesn't need to comprehend! because to him, even in the throes of grief, love remains the solution. Laszlo and Livio don't need to earn it. They don't need to meet some standard of "sanity" in order to be cared for. Vash puts his own feelings aside and fries them all some rice.

"This fic is three months old, it's so old, it doesn't matter if I comment or kudos, it's old." Fics do not have expiration dates, comment and kudos.

I don't post as much about this here as on my other socials. But I have Long COVID and every time you get COVID your risk of Long COVID goes way way up. If you've had COVID like, 3+ times you probably have it. Memory problems? Getting winded easily? New allergies? Yeah. Yeah

I know that public health shouldn't be left to the individual. But that is currently the situation we are in. If you claim to care about community, social justice, disability rights... you should be wearing a mask as much as possible. If you can't afford to buy any, see if there's a mask bloc near you.

“hikaru” being aroace is so so important to me

like as much as i love a romantic interpretation of their relationship (sometimes i do just want doomed yaoi with no further nuance im sorry), i just- dont think that’s what yoshiki and “hikaru” have. yoshiki obviously loved the real hikaru, whether those feelings were reciprocated or not doesn’t matter but also hikaru very clearly cared for yoshiki deeply, even if he didnt express it outwardly (which is a whole other piece of analysis that i will probably get into later). Hikaru was interested in girls but with what little we do know about him and the way “hikaru” expresses human hikaru’s feelings from when he was alive, its not CRAZY to assume that he had some of form of repressed feelings for yoshiki. He was probably less aware of it than him as he generally seemed more clueless about queerness (the el jee bee tea thing lol) but given his environment, again, its not a crazy assumption to say that he was probably hella repressed. Either way no matter what the nature of his feelings for yoshiki were, “hikaru” is very aware of them but unable to actually conceptualize them because he doesn’t really understand human emotion. because he is living as a human for the first time, he starts developing a human ego and forming his own feelings (probably incomprehensible to humans) and those start blending with the very much human feelings hikaru had and felt. he starts questioning the confusing nature of this tangle of emotions but he just does not have the capacity to define them. and its like. his nature is actively conflicting with his being because he is an eldritch horror that has never felt what its like to have a life and be human put into the mind and body of a 16 year old boy— obviously that’s going to be difficult to navigate. but thats part of the beauty of this story. MMR has said that not understanding romantic attraction and sexual desire is part of what makes this story queer. “hikaru” being aroace does not in any way take from the queerness of the manga nor does it “no homo” his relationship with yoshiki or make it less meaningful. and that’s the part that i feel like a lot of people are missing. it doesn’t NEED to be explicitly romantic. They are queer. Period. queer stories can and should exist outside the context of romantic relationships. i think what this manga has done is honestly so much more beautiful and important then if it had just been a horror bl. which im not saying that thats a lesser interpretation, but there is just so much more commentary and though provoking ideas that are explored in this context.

 as for yoshiki, to be completely honest, i also don’t necessarily think that what he feels for “hikaru” is romantic love. he’s clearly gay, like so gay. and like i said before i do think he was in love with the real hikaru but i don’t think that’s really what he feels for “hikaru”. he cares for him, he sees himself in him, he wants to save him, yes, but i dont think he loves him the same way he loved human hikaru. there’s probably still some lingering physical attraction because he is in hikaru’s body but i think his feelings for him are just more complicated than romantic love. their relationship is the only “belonging” either of them have ever felt and so consequently, that’s going to come with some codependency. But i think for yoshiki, a lot of it is tainted by his constant fight with the inherent fear, aversion, and gripes with human morals because of “hikaru” literally being a monster that kills people. we saw it in the latest chapters that as much as he accepts and cares for him, he is still very conflicted. Point being i think given the nature of his situation, he does not love “hikaru” in the romantic sense and once again, that is okay. because it does not mean that what they have isnt special or that this erases the queerness of the story, it just means they are not easily defined and constrained into one very narrow and specific box.

i dont know man this series makes me feel things im gonna throw up.

I may have pulled up a little late to the KPop Demon Hunters party but the party is INDEED as delightful as everybody said!!! The soundtrack has been playing on repeat in my head and in my headphones for the past week. :D
