Red patio furniture (with shade umbrella) outside of 8 6 Pho
Address: 4082 SC-9, Boiling Springs, SC 29316
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This Pho place has a whopping THREE different sets of outdoor seating to choose from. I sat in two of them, and decided against the third--which was a set of picnic tables that a couple kept putting their large dog on top of.
I'm a big fan of metal grated seating so I was eager to give this one a spin. All in all... Kind of weird! I expected them to be more comfortable than a literal log--and they were... Just not by much.
Never have I felt so boxed in by outdoor seating. The back support isn't unappreciated, but I'm not a fan of the lack of accommodation for my ass. My thighs touched the edges of the arm supports in a way that I could tell would start to "dig in" if I lingered for too long. My slimmer partner noted that the seat felt angled downwards to them and that they felt like it didn't fit the shape of their ass very well.
Score Card
Comfort:
While they have all the necessary components, the chairs are not constructed with the idea of relaxation in mind. Too small for anyone larger than myself. 4/10.
Cleanliness:
Pretty clean. Minimal rusting on the chairs, but the table itself looks fine. The umbrella is a more recent addition and is in good shape. Sweep more often and you'd be golden. 6/10.
Style:
The red paint is pretty but has faded quite a bit with time. The triangle backs of the chairs have the sultry appeal of a backless dress, but in reality they don't live up to such an iconic look. 6/10.
Availability:
There's three sets of tables, but the only one at the storefront has an umbrella. We sat for about 5 minutes before an employee came out to ask if we had an order to pickup. We did in fact have one, but they were friendly enough that I would wager they wouldn't have done anything if we had been properly loitering. 7/10.
Overall score:
Better than a literal log, I guess!

Red Bench Between the Russian Bakery and Goodwill.
Address: 3555 Boiling Springs Rd, Boiling Springs, SC 29316
Tumblr media
Our very first bench leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The heat of summer has brought out the unfortunate smells of the other occupant--someone's dirty scraps.
This strip mall is worn down and it shows in it's seating. This is the only bench in the lot that's not kept behind the doors of a business, and the lack of price seemingly attracted some Trash Denizen who left their leavings.
Tumblr media
Graffiti of interest nearby. I wonder, did the intended recipient of this message ever see it? Thinking of you, Bree.
Score Card
Comfort
The construction is sturdy enough, but clearly doesn't have much in the way of support for the human spine or ass. Resting on this bench for 10 minutes bought 30 seconds of relief and 9 minutes and 30 seconds of discomfort. 3/10.
Cleanliness:
Would be the absolute worst, except I once sat on a bench with slightly more trash and got bit on the hip by an ant. 1/10.
Style:
The bright coloring would be snazzy if it wasn't so chipped and dirty. 3/10.
Availability:
As stated above, this is the only truly public bench in this (decently sized) strip mall. In my short time with it, no one approached me and only a few cars came by to frequent the bakery. However, had it been earlier in the day or a weekend I probably wouldn't have wanted to sit there due to the amount of foot traffic. 4/10.
Overall score:
It's pretty bad.
