"And this was the one thing Barbara mentioned that has stuck in my head ever since. She said: “Don’t worry, in documentary you always miss 99% of everything you think you need. You always miss the best things, but just keep going..."
I love this piece of advice Lucy Walker learned from Barbara Kopple. This quote is from Tell Me Something: Advice from Documentary Filmmakers, a small powerful book full of advice from 60 documentary filmmakers.  It's the kind of thing you keep on hand to pick up and sift through when you need some encouragement, a reminder that you can indeed do this.

Check out the article from Crowd Crux for their 11 tips on what to avoid, and how to best prepare, when creating your campaign.

This interview with author Debora Blum offers  quick glimpse behind the scenes of The Poisoner's Handbook, a PBS American Experience documentary, based on her book of the same name.  She also details her research for the book and touches on the question of when to end the story.  The film is currently streaming for free on the PBS website.

I have always been a big fan of taping index cards to my wall when storyboarding, but I might be giving Amazon's new tool a try soon.
