being anti ai is making me feel like in going insane. "you asked for thoughts about your characters backstory and i put it into chat gpt for ideas". studies have proven its making people dumber. "i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects. "youtube is impletmenting ai based age verification". my work has an entire graphics media department and has still put ai generated motivational posters up everywhere. ai playlists. ai facial verification. google ai microsoft ai meta ai snapchat ai. everyone treats it as a novelty. every treats it as a mandatory part of life. am i the only one who sees it? am i paranoid? am i going insane? jesus fucking christ. if i have to hear one more "well at least-" "but it does-" "but you can-" im about to lose it. i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to avoid the evil machine. have you no principles? no goddamn spine? am i the weird one here?

my opinion about studying disabled people and their rare disabilities is this:

even if you are the only human being on earth with a specific medical condition, you should not be expected to spend your singular only lifespan being studied, examined, tested, and written about. it can be asked of you, but you should be able to say “no”.

even if it’s for the “greater good”. even if it’s to “advance science” or “save future lives”. you should have to consent to being studied every single time.

if you read about the saints, sooner than later you will come across stories of suicide, self harm, and eating disorders, all placed on a pedestal of holiness. saints enthusiastically daydreaming about being brutally murdered, often putting themselves in a line of fire, choosing death in a way that is all too familiar to those of us who live with an ache to die. saint mary margret alacoque drank sewer water for days on end weekly as a way to unite herself with christ. the visionaries of Fatima wrapped ropes around themselves so tightly that they bled, and the Virgin Mary herself had to ask them to stop. saint dominic would strike himself with iron chains after prayer. countless female saints had anorexia mirabilis, 'the holy woman's anorexia', fasting to the point of death, even attempting to survive on the host and christ's wine alone. while many of us see this for what it is, dangerous self harm, others in the church praise it as a sign of strength, of ultimate holy mortification.

so what happens when you do these things and aren't a saint? what do we say about the person with bulimia, or someone whose heart gives out from restricting food intake? what do we tell people who harm their bodies on purpose? what do we have the nerve to claim happens to the soul of someone who kills themselves and isn't a great martyr?

of course, modern self harm isn't holy. historical self harm wasn't holy. mortification that leads to such suffering is wrong. i guess i don't really have a point here other than to draw the eye to the hypocrisy. we treat saints like their struggle christ is admirable, and then tell people with mental illness and such that they are going to hell. we idolize saint catherine, but bully the child who can't make themselves eat. we praise the suicidal nature of martyrdom wishes, and tell the parents who have just lost their child to suicide that their child is burning in hell. we tell someone who is struggling with self harm that they are butchering god's gift and should be ashamed, as if the term 'victim soul' isn't horrifying.

which is it? is my suffering holy, or will it damn me? am i an abomination with a razor blade, or a blessed penitent?
