Claire, I want you to know that Binary Break is, in my opinion, one of the BEST examples of the entire GENRE of Actual Play podcasts, nevermind being the best digimon podcast. I don't know what it is about digimon but between BB and Across the Planes I'm having trouble finding OTHER active podcasts that can match up!! The past few episodes have been KILLING me and Rallymon has become my new favorite character
P.S. super excited about the new edition of Digidice and I'm extremely attempted to try and get my friends to play even though none of us (including me) have any good knowledge of the OG Digimon shows
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for the wonderfully kind words! Out of all the demographics that listen to the show, "not knowing anything about Digimon but liking Binary Break anyway" is certainly one of the most fascinating to me, lol
And yeah, in terms of Digidice, this entire podcast experience has kind of been one big playtest for the system, and I now have a lot of ideas for ways to expand it and make it better. Good things are coming!

I just started listening on Spotify and my goodness everyone is so good at voicework!! I'm really excited to see where things go!
Thank you so much! So glad you're enjoying the show. In my opinion, it only gets better as it goes, so you're in for one heckuva ride!

Follow up to previous question: does Power x 2 mean a successful Power roll and multiply the result by two, or twice the value of the Power die assigned to the move (IE, if the Power Die is 2d4, the target number is automatically 8?)
Re-reading those rules now and I honestly have no idea wtf I was thinking when I wrote those rules back in 2016. Power die type x 2 seems way too high and like a thing you would never roll.
My instinct here is to think that I probably meant rolling two Power dice and adding them together, and they have to beat that result. If I was re-designing it today, I'd probably do it differently. Probably Power die type + 1? So like, if the Power was d6, they'd have to roll a 7.
IDK. Follow your bliss. This game is a mess, lol

Hey, question for Claire--I apologize if you answered this somewhere else, I can't seem to find it if so
When the "bind" ability says it binds "on a hit," does that mean a successful accuracy roll, or does the Power roll still have to exceed the target's Toughness?
Any effects that trigger "on a hit" happen if the accuracy roll hits. It does not have to inflict stress.
There will theoretically be a new edition of Digidice (totally revamped with lots of new goodies) coming out between seasons 2 and 3. So please keep these sorts of questions coming. They help guide me towards understanding which sections of the rules are confusing and require further clarification!
Thanks!

I practically screamed when I realized that was Claire while I was listening to Across the plains a couple weeks ago. The double dose this week really helped make my week. I do a lot of long drives for work and listening to Binary Break always makes them enjoyable!
Thank you!
For those not in the know, I was a guest a while back on Across the Planes: Digiverse. I got to play a big strong sphinx lady. Go check it out!

hi. watched the entirety of the show in the last like 2 weeks, im obsessed, i made my friends play the game immediatly, and im fully thinking about southern lesbians most of the day (also hey! if you got a similar ask from me, thats not because im spamming but because i have godawful memories)
Hello! Thank you Maxine. Yes, hello, we are also all obsessed with these lesbians and so happy to share them with the world.
Also, I don't know where you were able to *watch* Binary Break, but if you could send me a link, that would be AWESOME.

I make digidice Critters for fun and I feel like it would please the jury to know I made a line where the Bit at the way end of it is slapping every bonus point into the Giant skill and just being Turbo Huge. 5x Massive Combo. An absolute UNIT.
Jesus Christ. How big is that in the fiction? Like I'm imagining bigger than a kaiju here.
Can you respond to questions I post here? I don't know how tumblr works.

So, I've been doing my monthly re-listen of season two (because I have the memory of a goldfish, and I keep catching new things), and just got back to Billy trying to hack the cash register.
This morning, I just kept thinking 'You know, there are two common ways to do what he's trying to do, and *both* are destructive to code.'
Arbitrary code execution, which can have *UNFORSEEN CONSEQUENCES* in a world made of code, and Buffer Overflow, which is partially related to glitches like Missingno, and the corruption of Hall of Fame data. AKA, *UNFORSEEN CONSEQUENCES.* (And besides, *who* is in buffer?)
Would be pretty baaaaad if Billy actually manages to hack the planet and accidentally reintroduce Glitches. Especially without the Fractal Code Purify command.
I don't know what any of this means, but it sounds very interesting. Computer things!

Heyoo. I dunno if you've gotten an 'ask' about this before, but I don't know how many fans of Binary Break have bothered to watch Digimon Adventure 2020 this far -
Episode 40 of Adventure 2020 is both kind of soccer-focused, and also *heavily* features Pomumon. I think a certain cast member of Team Baby would get a kick out of it.
That's it!
I haven't seen much Adventure 2020, but I feel like I watched some bits of that episode as research back when I was designing the character of Pomumon for Binary Break, but also that was in 2022 and I have basically no memories of that beyond the vaguest of impressions. Certainly don't remember the soccer. Maybe I should check that one out again sometime soon.

Ahhhh, I've been a fan of Binary Break for a little while now, and I just realised I could simply send you a message and tell you how much I love the podcast!
I have recently decided to relisten to the first season, and then realised that if I listen to the first two episodes of each season one after the other, I'll understand how team Hot Topic are feeling (pretending I only have the info they have makes the pain more real when thinking about how their friends/sister went missing and they have no idea what happened and everyone is saying they are dead, also makes me way more worried about team baby than I already was, I really hope they are going to be ok 😵‍💫) so now I'm doing it for all episodes. I may end up relistening to the whole of season 1 multiple times (not a bad problem to have), because I can promise I'm not gonna resist listening to the next episode of season 1. Well, I think it's time for me to walk to the shops more often to give me more listening time, fresh produce every day is important!
I'm not sure how much gushing over literally everything you want to receive so I'll try to keep it short (well... realistically medium sorry).
A) The voices!! They are so good, Claire's vocal range is fabulous, and I can tell she puts so much effort into bringing so much character to all of the characters. all of the players have got great human and Digimon voices, and at points I'll be thinking "must be hard to run a game for so many people, what is she gonna do when they all meet up?!" before remembering that each person is running one human and one Digimon 😅 (I have to believe that they will meet again for professional reasons, I don't want to have to tell my boss my distraction is because a Digimon actual play podcast is trying to break my heart, I don't know if she knows what digimon or actual play podcasts are)
B) The story! The story is so good and I love it so much, I keep on thinking about it when I'm walking around or working. I worry for the characters (PCs and NPCs) and just wish I could give them all a warm cup of tea and a magic button that would solve their problems. I look forward to next episode every month (Not in a pressure way, but an excitement way! If you have to take more time you should, keep healthy and happy!)
C) The characters!! Wahhhhh they are sooo good! What skill and huge genius brains were involved in making them all? I'm thinking about them and just want them to have a gentle and loving reunion soon. I know it can't happen magically quickly (team baby have been missing for 5 years?!!! how are they doing? I just want Capmon to be a property tycoon, and nothing bad to have happened to anyone but... I'm so worried for them 😭 90% of my ideas of what happened aren't good!)
Anyway I hope that you are having the most wonderful day, and hopefully I'll be able to join the patreon after xmas to be able to talk to other people about Binary Break (though I am trying to get other people to listen atm, wish me luck!)
ooh I forgot to put a proper question ummm... What have been your most unexpected character moments that the players have surprised you with?
Thank you so much for this lovely message! I'm sorry it took me 6+ months to respond.
In terms of your question, gosh, there's so much. A big one is definitely the strategy that the players came up with in episode 5 to help settle the grudge between Leomon and Ogremon.
Also everything that Christina did as Tsarmon in episode 8, and also also the final beat in that episode where the kids all have a sleepover together, cuddled up in Hotel Terminus. It was so sweet and totally not anything I was planning.
And, I mean, just everything that happened in episode 9. That was supposed to be a single quick battle that I thought was gonna take like half a session at most, but everything the players were doing there expanded it into a whole-ass story that ruled so much.
Also, in terms of Season 2 stuff, there was a lot of good stuff in the Billy/Robinmon/Earth Primal arc. Jordan wearing the respirator, Kat buying in to the reality of Outdiana rather than rejecting it. I had to do a lot of abandoning former plans and following the players' lead there.
Also, I really loved that conversation between Billy and Kat in the sewers in Episode 23. Absolutely wonderful stuff.
I could keep coming up with examples, but I think that's enough for now, lol

Second listen of the whole series, third of the two Team Hot Topic episodes, and I finally retained the title of that anime you mentioned the OP of during Generation Loss.
I looked up the OP of Gokudo Swordsman Extraordinaire, and my only reaction was 'Yup, that certainly looks like some 90's-ass anime.' (Affectionate)
I don't know what makes so much 90's anime look so similar, but I keep finding anime that looks like Pokémon, that looks like Magic Knight Rayearth, that looks like Gokudo, that looks like the Vision of Escaflowne - stuff that looks like it could have been produced in the same studio, and punches me right in the nostalgia.
*Anyway*, I mostly just sent this as a way to let you archive the name of that show in the blog, since my initial google searches didn't even turn up a Wikipedia page, which is *impressive.*
I guess, to turn this into a proper ask, what are some other obscure anime you'd like to get eyes on? I guess mine would beee... -Googles- Holy heck, I found it. Märchen Awakens Romance, or MÄR. I literally don't remember much about it except that was extremely hard to do a google search on back in the day, and it had a very interesting magic system with gems that slot into unconventional weapons, and some chess themed villains.
-Scrolls- WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT HAD 102 EPISODES AND A SEQUEL?!
Gokudo is definitely the most obscure anime from that period that I liked. I first experienced that one in my high school's anime club. We tended to watch a bunch of stuff in there that wasn't available to see on TV. DVDs and videotapes presumably bought from Suncoast or purchased through catalogues.
Some of the other stuff I remember we watched in there was "Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective" and also "s-CRY-ed," though I can't speak for the quality of those, how well they'd hold up, etc.
Another semi-obscure old anime I've been getting into lately is "Hikaru no Go," a delightful sports anime about the board games Go.

New episode on the first!
Maybe a quick nap beforehand, though? Explosions are exhausting.
