Russian people who support Putin and his politics are often called “victims of propaganda”. I tell you what, people believe in propaganda only when it matches up to their personal standards. People with basic morals always check what they hear or see with their “inner compass”. People who are strongly convinced that killing is bad and stealing is bad will never find acceptable ideas like “we invaded another country and we are killing it’s people for their own good” or “we annexed a part of another country because we think we should own it” no matter how aggressive the propaganda might be. It only works for people who agree with it on personal level.

It's almost 3 AM here in Ukraine and the second air raid for today is not over yet. It started more than two hours ago but we are warned that it's still dangerous to go out so we should not leave our shelters. I am sitting on the bathroom floor hiding under a blanket between a tub and a washing machine and trying to calm down my 4 cats who are distressed and bored. I am very tired, a little hungry, longing for a shower and my eyes ache from reading news and updates and texting with family and friends. The heating is off (as a preventive measure), but we still have water and electricity, however, it's "no lights" time so the whole place is dark. I am seriously considering the possibility of sleeping here because I feel that if I go to bed and sleep tight I won't hear the siren. So I came to Tumblr for some distraction but also to say thank you to everyone who showed their support - here or elsewhere! In times like these people show their true colours and it's so inspiring to see that your colours are really beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

Today I want to express my sincere gratitude to @alexsweetpie for their posts about situation in Ukraine and for trying to tell the truth. I feel like many people either don’t realize or don’t want to realize how serious the situation is. I still see a lot of “support” and “hugs” sent to Russians who are suffering (???) and now are going to suffer more because of the sanctions. Poor Russians, let me hug you! I mean, people can support whoever they want and I don’t have a problem with that. But when I see “support” expressed to both Russians and Ukrainians in one sentence I feel offended. It’s like simultaneously supporting nazis and Jews. I cannot hear this “simple people of Russia” bullshit anymore. “They can’t do anything”, “Putin is the one to be blamed”. Like, come on. Putin has been there for over 20 years and the only thing they came up with to express their protest is to wear a white stripe? And you know why? Because they LIKE him. They support him and his decisions, the majority of them. Open your eyes, people! Go read their social media, their forums, even fandom ones (I specially recommend you to read Russian fandom forums, you’ll find many interesting opinions on Americans and black people in particular). Russians don’t feel regret, many of them want and cheer this war. They come/send their sons to Ukraine voluntarily. They see it as a pretty decent way to earn some money. They are equally responsible for this war, mainly because Putin and his politics is their choice. “Simple Russian people” are destroying my land and killing Ukrainians.

I am a simple person too. Yesterday I spent 2 hours in a bomb shelter hiding from attacks of Russian airplanes. Then I was running through an empty dark town to get home before the curfew and the “no lights” time because I’ve left a switched-on lamp in my apartment and I had to switch it off not to break the blackout measure and make our house an easy target. I was sleeping in clothes waking every 2 hours to check my messenger for updates on possible attacks. I spent this lovely Saturday morning rearranging my “grab bag” and securing my windows with tape. Do I feel helpless? No. Am I going to post “no war” memes on my dash? No. I am going to go out and collect empty bottles for Molotov’s cocktail. And this is my choice as a simple person.

P.S. My parents called me this morning asking about the best way to donate to the Ukrainian armed forces. I can’t be more proud of my “simple people” parents.
