NANAMI KENTO HEADCANONS: VOL. 1

↳ When he is embarrassed—although he fights his hardest—Kento will blush not only on the high points of his cheeks, but also his ears. If you really stir him up, his ears are practically GLOWING pink. ↳ He is a HUGE fan of culinary content on social media, and has a throwaway account for both Instagram and TikTok, where he solely consumes content related to food science. There are infrequent bursts of color, but none he deems to be obnoxious. These pops of brightness are typically wall art ( like these: 1, 2, 3, 4 ) of varying sizes to make an aesthetically pleasing gallery wall. The price he justifies as an investment, since these pieces will have longevity in proper hands and be well worth the money he paid. He also has a framed print in his kitchen.

A MORE DETAILED EXPLANATION OF NEELA'S CURSED TECHNIQUE

*mun note: Rife is a nod to rife frequency and low energy waves. The pseudo-scientific (I am not a PhD I'm undergrad, pls be nice *weep*) explanation is that energy and emotion resonates at different frequencies. Positive energy vibrates and resonates at a higher frequency. It can disrupt the lower frequency that stabilizes the structure and form of cursed spirits.

OFFENSIVE:

Rife: Positive energy used offensively to disrupt and destabilize cursed spirits. Positive energy is channeled and imbued into Neela's bracelets and anklets. By thrusting these rings, she can forcefully emit blasts of positive energy, but this technique is far more impactful when coupled with a physical strike. The momentum of the subsequent collision and thrust of the rings will deliver a second, delayed shockwave of positive energy. Bracelets can also be infused with cursed energy, and the technique can be implemented similarly.

INHERITED CURSED TECHNIQUE:

Hlanya: (from the Zulu word for "crazy") The signature of the Sol family. It encompasses a tantric, rhythmic display of power and zeal that amplifies allies' abilities in combat. The primary function of this is to manipulate the Circadian Rhythms of the body. Heightened adrenaline leads to higher alertness in combat and a stronger outpouring of cursed energy. However, this comes at a cost. This leads to a buildup of melatonin, which causes the body to falter after combat. Since cortisol and adrenaline (epinephrine) tax the body beyond belief. Rest is imperative to prevent injury or succumbing to illness. Should the recipient refuse to allow their body time to recuperate, they may suffer severe consequences.

DEFENSIVE:

Neela uses the rings on her forearms and ankles almost like vambraces. By infusing them with cursed energy, she stands a chance at deflecting or mitigating damage from attacks she has no time to dodge.

CURSED TECHNIQUE REVERSAL:

Thanda: (from the Zulu word for "love") Neela is the only sorcerer in her clan, the Sol clan, to implement this cursed technique reversal of her inherited technique. By forging a binding vow to only heal others ("The Golden Rule"), Neela is able to use the same mechanism of a dance to disperse positive energy. This positive energy is extremely effective at treating injuries, though there is a cost. The cursed technique will produce cortisol and epinephrine, which will build up and cause a subsequent crash when the effects wear off. The reversal will produce large amounts of oxytocin and melatonin, which can induce fatigue. It's also been stated that after induced rest, healed patients will require sustenance to replenish their bodies. Neela not only administers a caring touch (extra oxytocin, the cuddle hormone), but keeps snacks stashed away to replenish her patients. It's also for her to keep her going (although, effectively running on fumes.) *mun note: These techniques are EXTREMELY taxing on Neela, and especially after healing, she is often fatigued herself. Since she is determined to be as useful as possible and not a detriment or burden, she may push herself to burn out or fall ill. This is why her diet comprises so much sugar. It's a quick source of energy for her body to pull from in emergencies.

RORONOA ZORO: JUJUTSU KAISEN VERSE NOTES:

A descendant of highly-skilled sorcerers and combatants, the Shimotsuki clan, Zoro was on his own at an early age. Despite his lack of cursed energy, his immense strength even as a child meant being tracked as a potential threat. Zoro eventually found refuge in Hyogo. At the time, he was unaware of their distant relation, as these were members of the Shimotsuki clan. After the death of his childhood friend, Zoro vowed to honor her life and wield the cursed tool she did: Wada Ichimonji. Through Shimotsuki Koushiro's recommendation that Zoro would be propelled to study at the Kyoto campus of Jujutsu Technical College.

COMBAT SKILLS

Zoro can use a variety of blades, but is mostly suited for his own unique style of combat with three katanas. He is incredibly adaptable and has formidable stamina.

HEAVENLY RESTRICTION

Zoro was born with no energy and bears a Heavenly Restriction. Thus, while he cannot perform cursed techniques nor imbue weapons with cursed energy, Zoro possesses peak strength, reflexes, and incredible speed. To see cursed energy, he requires a specialized piece of eyewear.

SOL NEELA: JUJUTSU KAISEN VERSE NOTES:

An optimistic school nurse who offers assistance as a mobile medic. for injured sorcerers. Neela's life started as a child whose mother felt as if she had no choice but to give her up. Raised by a single father who worked for the Sanrio headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Neela was imbued with nothing but love, hope, and kindness during her formative years. Her father struggled massively with depression, but he channeled his heartache into providing a better life for his only bright spot: his daughter. After her father was found deceased under peculiar circumstances, Neela was taken in by her mother at long last and raised in a compound along with the maternal side of her family, comprising only women. These women were sorcerers who possessed a specific technique; a ritual dance to amplify a comrade's capabilities in battle. Neela displayed quite the prowess for mimicking these movements and dance in general, but she was castigated for being the product of an unsanctioned union. Always seen as airheaded, idiotic, and a burden. Nursing school was a challenge for young Neela, but her determination to succeed and desire to comfort and help guided her. Just as her father did, Neela represses negative feelings to favor an outpouring of positivity, as she believes it will benefit people more. While shame and imposter syndrome still live within her, they are enveloped in the optimism that was her father's legacy.

COMBAT SKILLS:

Combat skills reminiscent of those from Hung Gar Kuen (Tiger Claw), Capoeira, and Muay Thai as instilled through rigorous training from the Sol family. Dance-based martial arts like Capoeira come naturally to Neela because of how fluid and quick she is on her feet. Combined with the resistance training from her metal rings, Neela has achieved considerable endurance. She can change the tempo of attacks on a dime. While she is not immensely strong on her own, Neela's primary function in combat is to kite and distract. Higher priority threats she cannot dispatch on her own.

WEAPONRY:

Neela utilizes sets of golden rings on her ankles and wrists. They can be imbued with cursed energy to relay quick, repulsive blasts. When imbued with cursed energy, she can use the rings to guard herself as well.

INNATE (INHERITED) CURSED TECHNIQUE:

REVERSE CURSED TECHNIQUE:

Neela, distraught by the adverse effects of this technique, managed to pull within her well of emotions and memories. The deep well of joy and happiness imbued in her very being is how she can transform cursed energy into positive energy. She absorbed this from her father, though his behavior had nothing to do with sorcery. He masked his own pain and tried to manufacture happiness to keep her childhood light and carefree. By channeling hope and love, Neela forged a means to use her sorcery in a way that could benefit her friends. This adaptation of her signature technique still involves the manipulation of Circadian Rhythms and forces the body to work at an exponential rate to heal. Instead of the aging and damaging cellular effects of cortisol, oxytocin, and melatonin are released to induce the body's natural restoration process. Thus, patients will be put into a brief stasis while their body recovers. This must be strategically timed and done not in the heat of battle, as it creates a massive tactical vulnerability. Neela would insist that physical touch—resting a head in her lap or a hug—would be helpful to release more oxytocin and expedite the healing process during rest (which is somewhat true, but she wants an excuse to give someone a cuddle.)

BINDING VOW:

"The Golden Rule": Neela's pact allows her to wield the love inside of her to restore the wounded and the ill. As a consequence of this vow, Neela is unable to heal herself. She pays it forward and treats people with kindness. She may only be healed by another using the reverse cursed technique. Since the use of reverse cursed-technique is rare, her options are limited.

TRAFALGAR LAW : JUJUTSU KAISEN VERSE NOTES

A sorcerer and surgeon with tremendous anatomical knowledge. Law came from a long line of healing sorcerers. His town befell a mysterious illness, and those who did not perish directly from it were left to die via starvation and dehydration. The few that remained alive were then disposed of when the town was cleansed by fire. Law escaped by hiding amongst the bodies. Trauma and the stigma that came with illness amplified the cursed energy within him. Unquantifiable terror and lament which he could feel even in the soil and ruin of the town he grew up in fueled the young man's raw power. Too enraged and belligerent to lay down and die, Law fought the cold jaws of death for years. Through self-exploration and on borrowed time, Law painstakingly ( and painfully ) extracted the contaminants from every tissue in his body. The grueling process went on for over a week. He succumbed to exhaustion and the elements and nearly met his end. After being rescued and resuscitated by a kindly old man simply named Wolf, Law vowed to travel the world and heal those whose conditions were beyond the scope of conventional medicine. Amongst detailed medical and anatomical knowledge, Law's high intellect extends into combat and tactics. He is a tremendously skilled tactician capable of computing a multitude of possibilities on the spot. To his detriment, this intellect also leads to a degree of hubris.

WEAPONRY:

Kikoku: His odachi blade is a cursed tool scavenged from the rubble of the town he came from. It carries an immense amount of cursed energy from the collective rage, despair, and grief of his hometown. Outside of his domain, Law may use this cursed blade and use it as a conduit for his cursed energy.

INNATE DOMAIN/DOMAIN EXPANSION :

The Surgery Suite: Often called the operating room or just "room" or "chambre", the Surgery Suite is a pristine, sterile environment where Law executes his techniques. To utilize his innate technique, Law must be in this domain.

BINDING VOW:

By his pact "Hippocratic Oath", Law is bound to use his innate inherited technique only within his domain. He may only heal, amputate, or execute other procedures of his cursed technique within the controlled, clean environment that is his domain.

INNATE (INHERITED) TECHNIQUE

Along with Law's extensive anatomical knowledge, his inherited technique allows him to create "living" cross-sections of his target. Upon contact with his blade, he may dissect them and extract whatever must be extracted to purify them or rearrange them in any shape he pleases. This technique is notably weak outside of his domain, however. His binding vow allows him to utilize it to its fullest potential, but only within his domain. Heart Shambles: He has been known to swap or 'transplant' personalities and bodies for sport. It can only be done within his domain, however. If the personality transplant has been performed, he is only able to undo it within his domain. Gamma Knife: Targets are impaled with his blade and are indundated with high-frequency energy which allows him to effectively disintegrate cursed spirits.

ISSHO : JUJUTSU KAISEN VERSE NOTES

A former student of the Kyoto campus. Despite his proficiency as a sorcerer, Issho felt he could make a more significant impact as a law enforcement officer. He believed he could uphold justice by acting as an enforcer of the law and protector of peace. However, Issho was quickly ravaged by rage and grief after observing the world's wickedness. Shock fermented to anguish, then festered into unrelenting age. He was fed up. He no longer wanted to be plagued with such viscerally evil scenes. So, with unnaturally calm resolve, he permanently blinded himself. This self-mutilation resulted in a failed mental health evaluation. Thus, after being placed on administrative leave, Issho was discharged from duty. He then returned to work as a Jujutsu sorcerer. Despite his lack of sight, Issho is adept with every other sense. He possesses heightened hearing and a powerful sense of smell. He's also keenly aware of cursed energy, even in the smallest concentrations.

WEAPONRY

His weapon of choice is a jintachi—a sword with a long, curved blade—which is disguised to appear as his visibility cane when it is inside its scabbard. Supercharged senses and spatial awareness allow him to move and perhaps . . . anticipate the moves of his opponents.

SHIKIGAMI USER:

Issho frequently summons Fujitora: an enormous purple tiger shikigami whose fur billows as if it were composed of spectral flames. This beast helps him hunt stray cursed spirits.

INNATE DOMAIN/DOMAIN EXPANSION:

Heaven's Retribution: An abyss of sight deprivation. This domain comprises complete darkness, indicative of the festering darkness that took over Issho's innate desire for justice and deep-seated anger for those who patronize him on account of his blindness. If they believe that his lack of sight is a handicap, then the playing field will be leveled.

INNATE TECHNIQUE

Hands of Justice: In the domain of Heaven's Retribution, Issho can summon meteors to rain on his opponent from any direction. ( visualization )

THE SOL TEA

A tea passed through Neela's maternal family made as an elixir to calm and heal an ailing mind or body. It is the one thing Neela can prepare efficiently in the kitchen, as she has had many years of practice doing so. The base is boiled rhizomes: ginger and turmeric. Slices of citrus fruit are added to the pot, but using solely the rind is also acceptable. Typically, lemon is the variety of citrus fruit used, but any will suffice. After that, star anise and cinnamon sticks are added to the bubbling beverage. Lastly, honey is drizzled in to round out the palate and moisten the throat. Date syrup ( Neela's preference ) can be substituted, as it also provides a mild, fruity sweetness and boasts strong anti-inflammatory properties. Neela's personal twist is to add "love" to the mix. She takes the expression "made with love" literally, so she will pantomime the blowing (casting) of kisses over the pot. She insists that it makes the tea taste better and heals them faster. When she serves someone the tea, it is customary for Neela to offer a hug.

ABOUT LAW'S EYES

I liken Law's eyes to churning, molten gold or compare them to a gold ore. The technical description is central heterochromia, in which his eyes are a distinct, bright hazel/gold with a limbal perimeter that is indigo. As a result, even his softest stares may be a little offputting.

TRAFALGAR LAW General surgeon at Grand Line Presbyterian. An academic prodigy, Law survived an illness with an extremely high fatality rate. It unfortunately claimed his family. Taken in by the Donquixote family ( his benefactors ), Law went on to thrive in university, and medical school. He graduated at the very top of his class.

Retired law enforcement officer y hat still has a strong sense of justice. He does his best to enrich the community and empower youth to make good choices. His life is rather lonely, but he does his best to combat this loneliness by investing in community service.

ACE He is a stuntman and thrill-seeker. He is trained in many forms of fire dances, and studied this during his wordly travels. Ace left home young in order to make a name for himself, and find some meaning to his life. He has traveled all over Central and South America, and the South Pacific.

Neela's name means blue. Specifically, it can be described as deep, sapphire blue. Since she was surrendered immediately at birth to her father, Njano was given the task of naming his child. His entire world turned upside down in record time. After being discharged from the Navy following his injury, he felt that he lacked purpose. He felt lost and distraught. Meeting Najma changed that . . . until fate twisted the knife one last time. He was forced to see her in town but could never interact. He was forced to raise their daughter in secret. Njano's mind was anguished. While kindly neighbors assisted him in his unceremonious transition into ( single ) fatherhood, he struggled to shake the depression that festered within him. Neela did not have a name for the first few months of her life. Neighbors asked questions to ignite some inspiration: what was his favorite season? what were some things that made him happy? The idea did not strike him until the first time he saw her smile. Deep within that emotional void he felt a spark of hope. Rather than name her after a favorite object, season, or place, Njano named his daughter after his current state of mind: blue. It was an effort to put a positive spin on how he was feeling. Growing up, she asked many times about her name, and her father told her that blue was his favorite color. He would tell her he named her after something beautiful. Neela would not learn the truth behind her name until her return to Mirror Ball Island following the strike from Bartholomew Kuma.

The stigma that accompanied being sick never left Law. Even though he has cured himself of the disease that nearly claimed his life, he carries significant emotional damage. Miles beneath such rage and a desire to burn the world was a DEEPLY scared little boy. Let's not forget he was a child who lost everything. He endured ostracization and was treated unfairly because of his disease. The only person who treated him with kindness, Rosinante, he also lost. Emotional trauma has a substantial contribution to his touch aversion: after being treated like something sub-human and diseased, Law has internalized these negative feelings, and subconsciously deems himself as UNWORTHY of contact. At first, these feelings were agonizing. Over time, the absence of fond contact became starvation. Finally, this starvation festered and transmogrified into full-blown aversion. In addition, the trauma he endured fortified his heart. Beneath that cold exterior lies the same scared little boy. There is a present but dormant fear that opening up to someone and caring for them exposes him to the pain of inevitable loss. It takes a lot of work for him to be close to anyone. To experience kindness, care, and love means that his fortifications will be penetrated, thus the scared soul that cannot bear to lose anyone else is exposed. Trafalgar Law is not HEARTLESS: he is scared.

In correlation with severe heavy metal poisoning, the buildup of lead in his ion channels caused lasting nerve damage that NEVER fully healed. As a result, Law experiences brief periods of idiopathic allodynia as well as bouts of peripheral neuropathy. Naturally, he has developed an aversion to touch over the years ( for many reasons ) and these complications further fuel this aversion. His devil fruit ability has an EXCRUCIATING demand on his stamina, which is not formidable to begin with: so he can get fatigued relatively easily. On top of that, his nutrition is severely lacking. Even with medical and nutritional knowledge acquired through intense ( and neverending ) study, Law's diet is quite limited. He simply does not have high enough levels of B12 and iron in his body. As a result, this means he is anemic.

Expanding on this reflection of Neela's life, it's quite possible to break her ( seemingly indomitable ) spirit. Continuous disparagement and berating will chip away at what appears to be an impregnable barrier of exuberance. Once there is a substantial crack, it does not take much to completely shatter her. This barrier is more of a veneer, thinly veiling a wounded, aching heart. She would become inconsolable, and wilt. She would shrink away from the touch of those she previously craved, and in time, not even deign to meet their eyes. It would be a cruel twist to see that after all that running, she ended up back where she started.

Neela is inherently naive. The first few years of her life were the very best, she would say. However, she likely would not speak ill of the years following her father's passing, even if they were painful. As a child, she was doted on by her father. He was severely depressed and fought his hardest to provide happiness for his daughter, even while his own mental fortitude slowly withered. He could not succumb to his torment and leave that girl to fend for herself. He refused to allow her to be turned over to the very family that ripped away his beloved. Reciprocated joy && laughter kept him burning for a while, however, until his untimely passing at the hands of the Sol clan. There was an abrupt stop in the constant cuddling, comfort, and confidence building that came from her father. No more forehead kisses, no more cleaning her face, and no more hugs. Life with her mother and the rest of the Sol clan was strict. Instead of adoration, she was met with admonishment. Berated for being naive, stupid, happy-go-lucky, and scatter-brained, Neela relied on the memories of her late father's love to forge on . . . all the while begging to whatever deity would hear her that she could someday make friends and be free. There were no other children to play with, and she was kept under strict control, training day in and day out to someday serve the Sol clan. Her mother, Najma, sprinkled just enough praise to keep her daughter from crumbling but kept it minimal ( and in secret ) for fear of retaliation from the Sol clan elders and matriarch. Meeting the Straw Hats and sailing with them was the greatest turn of events for Neela. She wanted so desperately to be free; to be happy again. She ached to love and be loved as she was in early childhood. Internal torment was not heritable, but it did arise in Neela. Just as her father persevered through hope and love, Neela pressed on solely for the hope that she would be happy again. Just as her father did, Neela deprioritizes her own emotional distress in favor of providing comfort and care to those around her. She desperately wants to love and be loved so that the monstrous void inside her can be filled.
