When Dimple Met Rishi ... Mismatched on Netflix
I don’t normally post these kinds of things on here, but it’s still book related and I had to share, so I figured why not on here?!
As you know, I’m a huge fan of Sandhya Menon’s YA. She has created such a wonderful universe in her Dimple and Rishi series.
In fact, a few years ago I even tweeted that Karan Johar should check out her stories.
Well my booklovers, Netflix India has created a Dimple and Rishi adaptation called Mismatched!
I started watching it last night because I was looking for a Christmas movie but wasn’t really in the mood for a Christmas movie and Mismatched popped up as a recommendation. Within minutes I realized the story sounded a lot like When Dimple met Rishi, and thought, wow they’ve made a knockoff. But then I searched Menon’s twitter and realized no, this is genuine and got so excited. My intention was to just watch the first episode (I had lots of reading to do last night) but I ended up binging the entire season before bed (it’s a short season but still).
I love this adaptation because it allows me to love both the book and the series separately without an internal struggle of “the book is better”. The Netflix series spins Menon’s world in a great way. They added just enough flavour without going overboard.
I also must say the casting is on point. It’s hard to see your favourite characters depicted on screen because there’s the possibility of so much going wrong but for me, the actors that played the beloved Dimple and Rishi, among other characters in the show were perfectly depicted. When I read the book, I had questioned Rishi’s character a bit, but the netflix series does a great job of portraying him.
If you enjoy YA, teenage netflix series, bollywood, and of course anything by Sandhya Menon, I highlight recommend this show!
