Non BBC related but I’m really excited to report that book 3 in the Nevermoor Chronicles has been announced!! This brilliant series has won awards all over the place and is touted to be ‘as good as Harry Potter.’ Due date in Jan 2020, author Jessica Townsend has also confirmed that she’s committed to book four and five AND the movie rights to the series has been optioned by 20th Century Fox! BOOK REVIEW 🌟🌟 The Library of Light and Shadow by MJ Rose Hmmm... So I can't in all consciousness declare this a 'bookish' book. Yes there are books in it and a loose reference to a library but its not overly booky. That said, not a bad read. Delphine, a La Lune daughter has the ability to paint people's secrets but when one of her paintings accidentally causes a death, she finds herself shying away from her own magic. About half way through the book she is commissioned to paint the secrets of a Chateau, a home, in order to find a lost book belonging to the legendary Nicholas Flammel. A book that contains the elixir of life, the secrets of both Alchemy and immortality. A decent book, the third in this series (but fine to be read as a stand alone also) I liked the appearence of many famous artists in the book and the symbolism of light and shadow is evident. BOOK REVIEW 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill - Abbi Waxman The Bookish Life of Nina Hill Abbi Waxman There are five star books and then there are books that go so far over and above your expectation that no scale could possibly suit. There are so many things I want to say about The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, so many accolades and compliments for the author however let me start only with this; It’s my favourite book of the year, perhaps, my favourite book ever. What is it about though? Here are several attempts to encapsulate 1. Nina is a bookworm who works in a bookstore whose entire life is enhanced by her love of books 2. Nina is a woman who suffers serious anxiety, and this is the story of how she navigates life with a debilitating mental illness 3. Nina never knew who her father was until after he died. She inherits family she never knew she had. 4. Nina, a ferocious trivia champion finds herself attracted to her archrival. All of these things are true and yet the story is told in such a way that it’s not really about any one thing but about them all, woven into a story that is hilarious, tender, poignant and decidedly bookishly sweet. It made me laugh till I cried and then cry till I laughed. I’ve never read a book so complete, so intelligent and yet so hilarious. The relationships, the emotions, (the ending!) to me, The Bookish Life of Nina Hill is the perfect bookish book and will take pride of place on my BBC. BOOK REVIEW 🌟🌟🌟🌟 By Book or by Crook - Eva Gates This was such a cute, bookish book and exactly what I was looking for when I began my BBC. Lucy moves from Boston and her stuffy family to the Outer Banks to take a job in a Library in the Bodie Island Lighthouse. A Library in the Lighthouse? Already, thats two of my favourite things in life! Anyway, when the Library Board Chair is murdered and priceless Jane Austen Editions are stolen, Lucy needs to find a killer and a theif before they find her! The characters are beautifully crafted, the relationships are sweet and well thought out and the mystery will keep you guessing for sure! I loved every moment of this book. BOOK REVIEW The Little Book Cafe - Georgia Hill 🌟🌟 I don’t like to give negative reviews, I appreciate that writing a book is hard, getting it published is even harder but the reality here is that there is a fundamental flaw in this story. It’s not about a bookstore. It’s not about a book cafe. It’s not even really about a book club. The book club meets twice and not one of its members finishes reading the chosen book (Wuthering Heights) This aside, the storie’s ok, the characters are ok, the arc is ok. I’m just a firm believer in a book being relative to its title. BOOK REVIEW 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Bookshop of Panama - Suzanne Hope I came across this book on Instagram where author Suzanna Hope was running an ad to let her audience know that they could buy The Bookshop of Panama from Amazon for a discounted price. Well she had me at ‘Bookshop’ didn’t she? The Bookshop of Panama is about Kate, a steady down to earth, practical bookworm girl, living her average life in London with her steady john and her steady boyfriend Marco who occasionally mentioned that she has a bit of a book buying problem (sound familiar?) Marco works for the UN and is offered a posting in Panama. He asks Kate to go with him … and them promptly dumps her and leaves. What a jerk right? But maybe, just maybe, this is the best thing that’s ever happened to Kate. Maybe now, Kate can begin to live the life she was always meant to. I adored this book. It’s not flowery, its not poetic, its not sexual. It’s a straightforward story of what it takes to start over and live life on your own terms. I feel like Kate (and Suzanne) have inspired me! This book makes me feel like I can run my own bookstore one day! It makes me feel like its okay to be scared of your dreams; but if something scares you, it might be a good thing to try.
