people are so weird about lae’zel srsly. this woman is so Good i truly do not understand the majority of takes

like shadowheart mentions she’s half-elf once and lae’zel is like ok noted for the next time and doesnt get it wrong again

gale mentions how he’s impressed by her fighting and she immediately offers to teach him

she also answers any and all questions about the celestial realm and mindflayers that EVERYONE in the party asks her

she is the ONLY one with any experience and hands on knowledge about what the party is going thru but will still defer to the leader and help. for all she knows, they will literally be cured immediately if they find the creche but she still sticks around these fucking weirdoes because they ask her to

this is exactly how I felt in the beginning! But the more I’ve thought about it, the more it makes sense to me for the Emperor to behave that way.

When has he ever given Tav an actual choice? He knows your mind inside and out and all the weaknesses you possess. He doesn’t actually respect you because you’re not an illithid and fully subscribes to being an illithid is better. Not to mention the things you find out about him if you do certain quests.

My tav literally comforted this person and was trusting and cared. but where the “eh” feelings begin is with the astral tadpole. He actively wants you to consume it even if you say no he latches onto the doubt to try and force it with either a roll (that you can fail and are forced to consume) or you stomp on it and he gets mad. He actively discourages you from doing certain things if it’s against what he, personally, wants. With minsc, with ansur quest and especially in regards to the Lae’zel companion quests.

I’m rambling sorry lmao but basically it doesn’t seem ooc to me because his actions speak much louder than his words. He’s betting on escaping from the grasp of the netherbrain because he doesn’t believe in Tav past their ability to be the sword to his shield. He picks and chooses what to tell Tav the entirely of the relationship you have with him. The emperor, to me, is very much the person in power over Tav that you have to either fight back against or fall in line with.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ACT 3!!!!

(Also, it gets very much rant-y at the end.)

So, is anyone else really frustrated with the choice between freeing Orpheus or "trusting" the emperor?

Cause I am.

With how persuasion/intimidation/deception checks have maintained their importance throughout encounters and especially during companion quest lines, I was rather disappointed that their was no way to persuade the emperor to at least attempt to try and work with Orpheus.

I understand the emperor's caution and the consistent signs towards his hunger for power. But as a player, you've gotten much more improbable opportunities to convince enemies to do or believe the most outlandish things.

And I know this is me just purely being emotional, but I hate that either your pc, karlach, or orpheus have to become an illithid. Illithids are soulless, and I can't do that to Karlach. (Don't get me started on her endings.) Choosing Orpheus is even worse because you're dooming the revolution of an entire civilization! And i just want my tav to enjoy a non-illithid life with Gale.

Like you're telling me, my bard tav can convince four enemies in Act 2 to off themselves but not one squid man. A squid man who already has some cause to listen!?

The fact that he literally defects to the very thing he's been consistently trying to defeat feels completely out of character to me.

It's makes me sad more than anything. I've played BG3 for over three years, I believe. It's the whole reason I got a gaming laptop. But with this, it makes me not even want to finish the game. I know I will, but it's going to be bittersweet.
