6 Things People Don't Always Tell You About Studying
1. you ace tests by overlearning. you should know your notes/flashcards/definitions basically by heart. if someone asks you about a topic when you’re away from class or your notes and you can answer them in a thorough and and accurate answer, then you’re good, you know the material. 
2. if you don’t understand something, it will end up on the test. so just don’t disregard and hope that this specific topic won’t be on the test. give it more attention, help, and practice. find a packet of problems on that one concept and don’t stop until you finish it and know it the best. 
3. sometimes you just need that Parental Push. you know in elementary school, they would tell you “ok now it’s time for you to do your homework! you have a project coming up, start looking for a topic now!” ONE of your teachers might be like this. be thankful for it and follow their advice! these teachers are the best at always keeping you on track with their calendar. if not a teacher, then have one of your friends be that person that can keep you accountable for the things you promised you would do. 
4. you just need to kick your own ass. seriously. i know it sucks and its hard to study for two things at once. BUT. I DONT CARE IF IT’S HARD. you need to do it and at least do it to get it over with because you can’t keep putting things off. If you do, you will eventually run out of time and you will hate yourself. force yourself to do it. i made myself sign up for june ACT even though there’s finals because if i didn’t, i probably never would. like do i think i’m gonna be ready in one month? probably not, SO I BETTER GET ON IT AND START STUDYING! 
5. do homework even if it doesn’t count. if you actually try on it, then you will actually do so much better on the tests, it’s like magic. 
6. literally just get so angry about procrastinating that you make yourself start that assignment. I know how hard it is to kick the procrastination habit. I have to procrastinate. So I make myself start by thinking about my deadlines way early. I think, “oh i have a presentation in three weeks (but it really takes 2 weeks to do), i’ll be good and start today.” when that doesn’t happen, you say you’ll do it tomorrow, and this happens for like the next four days. I get so mad at myself for not starting when i am given a new chance to do so with every passing day. By that time, you actually have exactly how much time you need for it AND you were able to procrastinate the same way you usually do ;)

17/07/18: I spent most of today running errands, and buying things for my desk. My desk has been an absolute mess until now - I didn’t have anything with which to organise my files, or any kind of decoration. Having pretty things and a bunch of nice-looking paper trays and drawers makes keeping it neat so much easier.

Masterlist of Bullet Journal Ideas
I was going to post images with each listing, but 100 pictures on one Tumblr post was quite a task. So, if you’d like to see examples of any of these, I am adding them to my Pinterest Board which can be found [here].
1. Books To Read- Color them in as you go! Or make a fun list of them and check them off one at a time. 
2. All About Me- Make doodles of things you love, add quotes, draw yourself!
3. Future Log- There are so many ways to make this page. Please do some research to see which would work best for you
4. Movies To Watch- Pretty self-explanatory, but there are many ways to do this page too
5. Skills To Learn- Jot down all the things you want to learn
6. Important Numbers and Addresses- In case of emergency of course. Also, be careful what you put in this part for your own privacy reasons
7. Year In Pixels- Honestly, one of my favorite pages
8. Fonts, Banners, and Frame Ideas- For practice and to choose from when you are having trouble being creative
9. Snail Mail Log- Keeping a list of people who you want to send letters to
10. Savings Tracker- It’s always fun to see how much you have saved up
11. TV Series Tracker- Keep track of all the shows you still need to binge
12. Monthly Challenges- I know I haven’t been helpful with this lately, but you can always search for challenges on my page
13. Music Playlists- A list of songs that describe you, your goals, things you love, etc. 
14. Timeline of Your Life- This was hard for me to make. My life isn’t all that exciting
15. Inspiration Page- Fill it with quotes, pictures, memories, etc. 
16. Self-Care List/Ideas- I posted many lists like this on my Pinterest if you want more ideas
17. Monthly/Yearly Memories- Look back on all the good and bad things that you’ve gotten over and endured. 
18. Sleep Tracker- See how many hours you get each night. This also works well when paired with number 7. 
19. Me Time Log- Keep track of how many hours you spend with yourself. We all need to learn to love on ourselves a little more. 
20. Tiny Adventures- Go out of your comfort zone and go on some tiny adventures like reading in public, talking to a stranger, giving people compliments, etc. 
21. Word Tracker- For those who are writers who like to procrastinate
22. Daily To-Do List- This can be done on your weekly pages or you can make a page specifically for daily sticky notes. 
23. Blog Post Ideas- Got an idea, but you’re not at your computer or have what you need for your post? WRITE IT DOWN
24. Fitness Log- Keep track of how much and when you work out or stretch or do yoga or and of those fun physical activities. 
25. Food Log- If you’re trying to lose weight or just get healthy or just want to track your food intake for fun, this is for you! 
26. Meal Prep- I love how cute and helpful these pages can be. 
27. Gift Lists- Ever see something and say to yourself, “Man, ____ would really like that”? Keep a list of things people would like so that you don’t worry about it when it comes to holiday time or birthdays. 
28. Grocery Lists- Every time I go shopping, I forget something because I didn’t write it down. 
29. Goals- Oh, yes! It’s 2018. We need some goals. Monthly, weekly, daily, YEARLY. Just get some goals and aim for them. 
30. Recipes To Try- I see nice recipes all the time on Facebook, but I never think about them again after I keep scrolling. It’s bad. 
31. Daily Affirmations- Give yourself some compliments and some emotional support
32. Business Plan- Make yourself a good businesswoman or businessman or businessperson in 2018. You got this. 
33. Birthdays- Keep track of all those important people in your life that need to be remembered on their special day. 
34. Work Hour Log- Sometimes we don’t keep track of all the things we get paid for. Actual work, babysitting, photography jobs, writing jobs, pet sitting, house sitting, etc. 
35. Wishlists- Not so you can #treatyourself, but so that you can make note of things you really want. 
36. Gratitude Log- It’s always good to have a moment of gratitude with yourself. Make it a monthly challenge if you need to!
37. Quotes- Your own, friend quotes, celebrity quotes, author quotes, and lyrics. 
38. Illustrations and Doodles- Doodling helps you keep your mind fresh and ready to react quickly to situations. 
39. Jokes- Your own, ones you heard, ones you read, etc. 
40. New Discoveries and Interesting Facts- Find a new interesting fact? How about that lemonade is basically Sprite in almost any other country than America?
41. Travel Log- Places you want to go! There are so many ways to do this, so look up different versions before starting!
42. Family and Friend Favorites- Their favorite colors, animals, stores, places, hobbies, etc. 
43. DIY Projects- Things you want to try out someday. 
44. Chore List- Keep track of when you do your chores so that your house doesn’t become disgusting or dusty. 
45. Bucketlist- What do you want to do before graduation, moving out, marriage, having kids, etc. 
46. Story Ideas- I always come up with story ideas and then when I sit down to write them, I blank. 
47. Period Log- For people with periods that have many PMS symptoms or even PMDD symptoms. This is a great way to show your doctor all of the things you go through each cycle. 
48. Words That Make You Happy- Silly words, ugly words, words that are fun to say, etc. 
49. Things That Make You Happy- People, places, and things. 
50. Monthly Habits- Water intake, cleaning, bathing, exercising, reading, etc. 
51. Story Titles- This can be titles for books, short stories, poems, or just nice sounding titles for anything. 
52. Made Up Words- I make myself laugh with all the words I make up on the daily. 
53. Follower Counter- This page keeps me inspired to keep doing what I love. 
54. Index- Always have an index for easy access to the pages you want to find. 
55. Icons- Sometimes we need to have icons to make our pages pretty. Sometimes we make too many icons and never use them (me). 
56. Packing List- For those who travel often or stay at friends’ houses more than our own, it’s good not to forget the things we need. 
57. Morning Routines- Our bodies need routines for mornings to get us ready for the day. 
58. Nightly Routines- Our bodies need routines for nights to prepare us for sleep. (see what I did there?)
59. Weight Tracker- If you’re struggling with your weight, keep a chart tracker or add your daily weight to your calendar. 
60. Pen Test Page- If you get new pens, highlighters, or markers, its best to test them out before using them. 
61. Brain Dump- Sometimes we just need to jot down ideas or thoughts. It’s okay if they don’t make sense. 
62. Spending Log- Keep track of what you spend because you might need that someday. 
63. Water Tracker- HYDRATE
64. Habit Tracker Reward System- This is something I came up with myself, so if you have questions, message me!
65. Name Lists (For Babies and Stories)- Keep a list of cool names for characters or even future babies. 
66. Looking Forward To…- Birthdays, holidays, raises, pay days, vacations, etc. 
67. Compliment Lists- Make a list of your go-to compliments, your favorite ones people have given you, etc. 
68. Level 10 Life- Please look up what this is before jumping into it!
69. Pet Care Log- Keep track of how much you do with your pets. Walks, play time, park time, play dates, baths, etc. 
70. Achievements- What have you done that you are proud of?
71. Weekly Log- Keep track of your week. This is one of the most used pages in any bullet journal honestly. 
72. Monthly Log- Another overly used page in any bullet journal. Very important. 
73. Daily Log- I don’t do this too often, but I know it helps others who really need a whole page for each day. 
74. Bill Tracker- This was fun to make and something I will be using now
75. Income Tracker- How much and how frequently do you get paid?
76. Deadline Page- Prepare yourself for things that you need to get done. Do not procrastinate this year!
77. Vocabulary Practice- Sometimes we just need to educate ourselves on our own terms. (and with our own terms. Anyone? Anyone?)
78. Doctor Appointment Log- If you don’t want to add them to your calendar or they are too far out to add to the calendar you’re using. 
79. Username and Password List- Be careful with this page. If someone finds your bullet journal, this could be bad. 
80. Monthly Cover Page- These are so cute! I just started doing them, but they make my journal so artsy and pretty. 
81. Dream Log- This is a fun one. Track your dreams. This would be good to line up with how many hours you get as well. 
82. Favorites List- What are YOUR favorites? Movies, snacks, drinks, subjects, people, colors, animals, etc. 
83. Habits To Break- Do you bite your nails? Quote The Office too much? Throw clothes into piles on your floor? STOP THAT. 
84. Small Things That Matter- Puppies, getting up in the morning, pennies, smiling at yourself, laughter, etc. Remind yourself that there is good in the world. 
85. Things To Sell- Get rid of the things you don’t need. Or make things to sell! Be prosperous this year. 
86. School Schedule- High school and college students really need this. Even teachers do too. Make a chart of your classes, room numbers, buildings, and times.
87. House Projects- Things that need fixing or improvements around the house. 
88. Day Trip Ideas- Fun places to go when you have the time. 
89. Things I Am Bad At- It’s okay to admit our shortcomings and work on them. Or just accept them for what they are. 
90. Resolutions- YES! Make yourself this better this year. Be the best you. 
91. Crochet/Knit Log- When making a blanket, small items, or just keeping track of your improvements in your skill. 
92. Future Planning- Make a list of the things you want in your future and how you plan on getting them. 
93. Quirk List- Ever notice you do small little weird things? Make a list to appreciate who you are. 
94. Who Borrowed What- Sometimes people borrow things and you forget until you need it again. By then, they threw it out or gave it to someone else. 
95. Six Word Stories- Get those creative juices pumping. 
96. Love Yourself- Write down all the things you love about yourself. Appreciate yourself. 
97. Paying It Back- Honestly, a good page to have, but it doesn’t get much attention from me. 
98. Childhood Dreams- We should always try to look back on what we thought we wanted
99. Good Deed Ideas- Ever think “wow, wouldn’t it be great if I could _____”?
100. Mind Mapping- There are a few reasons I really enjoy this, but it really helps me get my thoughts and ideas out more easily

Um I have a grade 04 violin exam soon and I am v unconfident with my sight reading skills... do you have any advice for sight reading? Thank youu ;^;
Let me tell you… I SUCK at sight reading. But because of sight singing, I’ve gotten a lot better at it. But most of the time, when we’re given new music, I would freeze and not play at all because of unfamiliar notes and tunes. But I do know some great advice for sight reading.
1. Visualizing scales, leaps, and arpeggios. When you’re given the music to look at, skim over it and look for things that you can mess up on, like arpeggios. This is why practicing arpeggios is so important. Nobody has time to read arpeggios and nail those notes instantly! Once you see them, you’ll know “oh this is an arpeggio ending on *some note*”And of course when you see notes that are ascending/descending step-wise, it’s a scale. Scales shouldn’t be read note-by-note, so if you come across notes moving in a step-wise motion, be ready for scales. If there are accidentals in it, pinpoint which note it’s on and know where that note is on your instrument. 
2. Unless you’re given a speed, take your time! This is an obvious, but people tend to start fast to “show off” and then end up sounding bad.
3. Practice. Ugh. I hate practicing sight reading because it’s a lot of work to find etudes and exercises and reading through them. But etudes are your best bet for sight reading. Also Bach, but Bach is extremely technical… Like double stops and sixteenth notes only type of technical. I don’t own an etude book, but from what I heard, Wohlfahrt and Kreutzer are the best etude books for intermediate and advanced level students. For beginners, it’s recommended to read Suzuki pieces.
Good luck with your sight reading! Remember it doesn’t have to be perfect. No one can sight read perfectly. Not even professionals. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. That’s why you sight read in the first place.

types of study breaks for every situation
if you realize you’ve been studying for hours: grab a snack to refuel your body and watch a sitcom to refuel your brain. then back to the books.
if you’re feeling stressed out: take some deep breaths, text your friends, maybe stare at a wall for a few minutes. gather yourself.
if you can’t seem to focus: get moving and get outside. take out the garbage, check your mail box, maybe walk your dog. just get moving and get fresh air. it’ll help bring you back.
if there’s something else going on in your life and you can’t get it off your mind: write down what’s going through your head, sort of like a diary entry. it’ll help you work things out.
if you’re just mentally and physically exhausted: set a timer for 25-30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll hit REM and you’ll wake up feeling just as tired. once you wake up, get some caffeine in you.
if the material is boring as hell: find another way to study. see if there’s a crash course video online about it or draw out what you’re trying to learn in diagrams and pictures to make it fun.
if people around you won’t shut up: listen to some music. soundtrack and classical music is always good because they won’t absorb you as much as music with lyrics. white noise (like ocean waves, rain sounds, etc.) also works.
if you only half understand a concept: call/message a friend who’s not in the class and try to teach the material to them. this will help you mentally work through the material and will help you remember it as well.

Study Tips By Someone Who Had Mixed Feelings About School (but still did quite well and is relatively successful in adulthood)
Okay, these first ones are more like life tips, but I learnt the hard way that to do well in a pressurised environment like school, you need to take a holistic approach.
Focus. I don’t mean, like, sit for fifteen minutes at a time! I mean, why are you studying? When I was 15 I had a bad falling out with a friend and to distract myself I spent half an hour every evening studying my Chemistry textbook. I won a progress award that year and my grades improved across all my subjects, just because I would rather study than think about how shit I felt. Maybe you want to be a doctor or win an Oscar, maybe you go to the library because it means you’re not at home, maybe you want straight As so you can go to a university as far away from your town as possible. Just think about why and keep that in mind (make a bracelet you’ll take off after exams are finished; put a photo of your dream school into your planner; write inspirational quotes on sticky notes on your bedroom wall).
Remember you’re a person first and a student second. In a few years, this will just be a time in your life when you had to study. Your memories might be good or bad (try to make them good!) but they will just be memories. One day this will be over and you’ll be onto the next thing in your life. With that in mind…
Your grades do not define you. I’m still pissed about my D grade Religious Studies A Level (I failed the first part twice. Twice!) because I can still recite parts of my course and I loved that class, but on exam days, it just wasn’t happening. I had terrible problems with my wrists throughout my A Levels that made writing painful, and when I got painkillers they would make my stomach hurt so badly that I nearly puked in one exam (I failed that paper too). I was angry and bitter – with myself, with my school, with people who didn’t have the same trouble I did – for years. I know I could have done better in my A Levels if things had been different, but they weren’t. It took me a while to make my peace with myself, but I did the best I could at the time. That’s all you can do.
Right, now onto the tangible stuff:
Take time to relax, or you’ll hate every school-based memory. Set up little treats for yourself after you’ve done each exam/piece of work, and make sure you take time off to sleep and eat and exercise and live like a regular human (eating dinner or going to bed, by the way, is not a treat). People make a big deal out of working all night and surviving on ambition and instant coffee, but that is a fast way to a breakdown. If you’ve got the cash, set up big treats for after exam season, like a holiday or an event. Look forward, literally. I really recommend the Headspace app; meditating is the only thing other than writing that gets me out of my messy head. I’ve used it for four years on and off, and it’s probably prevented about five breakdowns, just through teaching me to b r e a t h e.
Use the tools you were given (but remember you control them). The Internet is incredibly helpful… until it’s a distraction. So are trips to the library or the coffee shop or study groups. If you have trouble sitting down to work or putting your phone down when you go to bed, use the Freedom app and plugin (best health investment I’ve ever made, after Headspace) to block various sites and apps. Set rules when you’re studying with friends or out and about. Starbucks is there to help you; you’re not there to give Starbucks all your time and money.
Ask for help when you are struggling. Whether it’s study, home or life related, your teachers are there to help when you’re in trouble. So are your friends (and family, hopefully). Keep lines of communication open, because when shit hits the fan – and it will – you can’t be an army of one.
Try to work out how you study. I still have no idea what ‘type’ of learner I am; I’ve tried most of the study techniques over the years (for things like driving tests and job interviews as well as school) and different methods have worked at different times. If in doubt, get yourself a nice notebook and revision cards and some coloured pens (you can get an entire stationery set in most supermarkets or ‘cheap’ shops for less than £5; they do the same job as your £30 luxury notepad). I find that explaining something to someone with no knowledge of my subject helps (so it’s like you’re teaching them your course). I’ve also done activities like texting Shakespeare quotations in emojis and poetry-based Monopoly with friends over dinner – try thinking outside the textbook if you’re disengaged. If in doubt, watch the dramatised version of a book or historical event and point out the inaccuracies (I had a teacher who let his class watch 300 to point out the historical inaccuracies. Everyone appreciated the teacher. Everyone learnt that 300 is not a source. Everyone was happy).
Forget #studyblr for a minute. There’s a lot of beautiful, expensive stationery and photos alongside holier-than- thou advice by fellow students, and it can be intimidating and condescending in equal measure. But those students are just like you: they’re tired, stressed and probably want a bath. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own Apple Mac or branded notepaper or fountain pens. Those things are added extras: what matters is that you get your shit together, then get your studying shit together.

study hacks for college/uni
So you’re struggling to study efficiently away from home? Finding yourself getting distracted easily? Having difficulty creating a study schedule in this new environment? I know finals season is coming soon for university students, so I thought I’d share my personal study hacks that helped me during college! 
Find the least popular library: while the fancy main libraries have great appeal, the truth is sometimes you really only need a desk, a comfy chair, an outlet, and some peace and quiet
Go higher up for quieter floors: usually the higher you go, the quieter and more serious the floor
Always pack the essentials: during finals week, finding a good study spot is a commodity, so make sure you can stay as long as humanly possible and bring supplies: laptop, chargers (phone and laptop), water bottle, snacks, layers (including a huge comfy sweater that can double as a pillow), headphones, notes, pens and highlighters, and blank paper
Don’t be afraid of caffeine pills: caffeine pills can sound scary, but that venti coffee at Starbucks also has a shit ton of caffeine. Opt to finding caffeine pills that are each 100 mg (the amount in 1 cup of coffee), and save ~$50-100 on buying coffee all the time
Find (only) 1-2 good friends and make a regular study group: even if you guys don’t share classes, it’s nice to have people who are reliable, quiet, and fun to be around when studying. Also, libraries allow small groups to rent private study rooms which are clutch af
Use the Pomodoro method with a timer or app: this is wonderful for people who have difficulty focusing. Set an alarm for 25 minutes, and block all forms of electronic distraction from that time. The idea is to have 25 minutes of pure work with a 5 minute break to do whatever you want afterwards, and this helps train you to maximize your ability to focus and minimize brain fatigue
Empty classrooms and lecture halls on weekends = substitute library: on the weekends, college campuses are super dead. I’ve found that lecture halls and classrooms are deserted (and usually unlocked) during these times, which make for great quiet places to study
Listen to music WITHOUT lyrics while you study: you’ll be less likely to be sucked in to the music and distracted
Wear pajama or workout clothes: just trust me on this one
Have a few achievable goals for the day and know when to stop: college burnout is real, so remember that college is a marathon, not a race
