Nichelle Nichols has passed away. 

Martin Luther King once convinced her to continue on as Uhura when she was about to quit. He told her how she was a role model for so many people and had to stay on. He rightfully recognized her as a trailblazer and the inspiration she continued to be.

my only partially informed opinion on US land management is that we need to be eating and milking fewer cattle and more goats

reasons:

Goats are more like low browsers than grazers, and some of our worst invasive species (Amur honeysuckle for example) are DELICIOUS to goats.

You don't have to basically totally un-forest a patch of land for goats (the reason you don't see a lot of trees in cattle pastures is partly because cattle scratch themselves against the trees and rub all the bark off and kill them).

They're less capable of killing you. (The "300 people are killed by cattle per year" statistic actually does have more to say about cattle than about statistics—they are enormous and they Can Kill You)

They're more feasible to keep on a relatively small plot of land.

Do you know what we ought to be doing at these protests outside justices’ houses?

We ought to be doing the same thing as protestors outside women’s health clinics.

Splatter red paint. Yell “murderer” whenever they approach windows or doors. Hold up pictures of people who’ve died due to lack of safe abortion. Throw baby dolls.

It’s all legal. In fact the Supreme Court MADE IT legal in the 1990s.

Give them a taste of what they put others through. And don’t tell me that’s “sinking to their level.” While we’re “taking the high road” they’re digging beneath to collapse it, so get down in the fucking trenches.
