once you realize that the political ad cliche of "[opposing candidate] has never run a business... and yet they want to run a whole city???" is code for "people who aren't part of the bourgeoisie shouldn't be permitted to hold office" you never stop seeing it.

strangely, i'm pretty sure "dutch" is the term Germans use to refer to themselves. idk why we started using that term for people from the netherlands. a properly anglicized version of "nederlander" would be "netherlander", right? but "nether" is an archaic word we don't use anymore so i'm not sure...
lowkey one thing i hate about having to do my work in english is that i have to call myself "dutch". i'm not fucking dutch that's not a real word. that's something foreigners made up. i'm from the netherlands. i'm a netherlander. that's what we call ourselves in our language.

country has always been a regressive, reactionary genre? like there was (and still is) country-adjacent folk and punk stuff that is somewhat progressive, but that's a pretty different thing...

#oh well#i don't know why i was expecting a good political analysis#from someone who unironically uses the term “anti-authoritarian” like it means anything

I think a lot of the Anglophone discussion around Cuba's demographic policy illustrates the problem with adhering to discrete Communist talking points without adopting a Dialectical-Materialist framework. Because under the prevailing conditions of Imperial Core nations, demographic anxiety and political pushes to increase birth rates are primarily a product of reactionary thought. They are usually rooted in social concerns over ensuring women are properly subjugated so that the country is producing enough of the right kind of children. While more economic concerns about future workforce relative to future elderly dependents are still relevant, these usually exist in terms of "ensuring maximum profit for the bourgeoisie" rather than "ensuring everyone in society is able to be cared for". Additionally, those who take a more "purely economic" view tend to advocate importing labour from the Imperial Periphery as the main solution; emphasis on birth rate itself is more favoured by fascists
But this association between "birth rate anxiety" and "Fascism" is a product of the specific conditions in a specific time and place; there is no inherent relationship between the two. Under the incredibly different conditions of Cuba, a besieged Socialist nation, concern over birth rates reflects the pressing need for a future workforce that can care for the elderly (as well as any other dependents i.e. the otherwise disabled, their generation's children) while maintaining a functioning society capable of resisting external aggression. It must also be emphasised that Cuba follows a strategy of positive incentives that makes it easier for parents to have more children while living their own lives, rather than negative sanctions that punish women for being anything beyond reproductive property. Like there's nothing unreasonable about Cuba's approach if you see Socialism as system that promotes the interests of the working class through whatever means is best suited for the current place and time. It's only a problem if you see Socialism as adhering to an unchanging checklist of "good policies" while avoiding "bad policies"; Socialism as metaphysical ideal instead of dialectical practice

No, I would not steal a car. However, if I had the ability to create a copy of someone's car that I could have for free while the other person retained their original car, I would definitely do that.
