More spoilers, same as previous

I just hit Void Stranger Cif and it was another moment of "you only just finished the tutorial motherfucker" god I love this game.

Like, I thought Gray and Lillie were gonna be the central focus of this game, but nope, I beat VS Lilith and it just opened up 20 million cans of world building worms that have nothing to do with them. I hope they come back, but every time I think I know the scale of this game it increases it in ways that are really interesting. My main hope is that the stranger's story line doesn't require me to play Zero Ranger to understand (even though I'm definitely going to) and that all the questions they opened up are setups for the future of Void Stranger, but for now I have some theories for where the game is going.

So, my theory updates (bear in mind I am slightly sleep deprived as i write this): I no longer think the little round thing is Dis, but instead I think it's Add. I don't have pretty much any evidence for this, it just kinda feels right.

I think that whatever got Bee towards the end of Void Stranger Lilith is probably Dis. The fact that Cif doesn't know what Dis is or what happened to Bee raises a lot of questions and this is a neat answer to a few of them.

The Stranger is Johan. I don't even really believe this one, it's just a neat idea. It'd be nice if they were related or smth, but I am interested to find out who Lillie reminded the Stranger of.

I watched the first 10 minutes of the new Supereyepatchwolf video, bought void stranger and have fallen into a pit of hyperfixation. Spoilers ahead, so I'll say here at the top that it's a game best experienced blind, but it's the type of game you have to be very patient with. It's only £10, I very highly recommend picking it up and breaking it apart with no prior knowledge.

I don't even know where to begin with this game, it feels like it it was built from the ground up with the end goal of me playing it. It relies very heavily on the player gaining knowledge to make progress and it does it so fucking well. So many moments have genuinely had me sat in seat talking out loud to no one about how cool the shit that's happening on my screen is.

My favourite example of this is a thing that happened whilst I was trying to get one of the crystals. I don't remember the floor number, but it's a level with a lot of glass floor, a statue that disappears when enemies die, a slime and no bottom wall. To advance to the next level here, the statue needs to be on a button, so the slime has to stay alive. I spent about 40 minutes trying to navigate around the slime, had gotten to a point where I could reach the bottom of the room and was just sat staring at my screen when I had a thought. "This room doesn't have a bottom wall..." I then proceeded to pick up part of the inventory bar at the bottom of the screen and place it down as a platform. I did use this to get the crystals and finish the puzzle, but not before spending several minutes seeing what happened if I picked up the different bits of the bottom bar.

Another one of my favorite moments so far was in a room with a single mirroring enemy. It was a seemingly unsolvable puzzle, so after scratching my head for a bit, I went up to the mirror and interacted with it, just to see if anything would happen. I was expecting to get the little question mark above Gray's head, but instead her dialogue box popped up and she said something like "I know your not going to give up so easily, are you?" The game had not acknowledged me as a separate entity to Gray at this point and I've not come across anything else like this, but I'm a big Deltarune fan so you know any "the player is canonically not the player character" stuff is going to intrigue me heavily.

The story is really engaging as well. I feel like it's the type of thing that could easily have felt like it was just there as an excuse for the gameplay to exist, but it's told incredibly well and contextualises a lot of what happens in the void really nicely. I came across the void Lords relatively early on because I was trying to save scum a puzzle in my first run, and it felt really cool to get some more of them when they showed up again in the floor 218 tree section and just before the credits. I suspect the 4 eyed statues have something to do with DIS and that DIS might be the little ball guy who shows up when you die with 0 locusts, but I strongly look forward to how the game is either going to validate those theories or prove them to be so very wrong.

I hit the credits about 9 hours in and went "is that it?" before booting the game back up and being run over by a truck of "you only just finished the the tutorial, motherfucker." I've not even made it to the first tree with Lillie's brand because I'm slightly sleep deprived and decided trying to do it without dying on my first go was a good idea, but I'm gonna sleep on it and dive right back in.
