"Oh, it's perfectly understandable. Semi-formal is a category that trips plenty of cookies up! You generally want something nice, but not excessive. Midi, maxi, or cocktail dresses, jumpsuits, an pantsuits are all acceptable, as are a dark suit, or a dress shirt and pants with a suit jacket or blazer. For shoes, lace-ups, nice loafers or flats, Oxfords, heels, or strappy sandals will work well when paired with something listed above. As for accessories, jewelry, a tie, cuff links, dress socks, a belt, a clutch or small shoulder bag, and a shawl or shrug are all perfectly acceptable. And thankfully, there are plenty of charts for future reference, like this one!"
