I find myself thinking about Kokushibo and his family a lot. His wife and children, I mean.

Him abandoning them was wrong, but at the same time, I can't entirely blame him. It was clearly an arranged marriage and one that he wasn't happy in. Even though he described it as "peaceful", he also followed that up with "boring." For someone like Kokushibo, who's entire passion is swordsmanship and improving himself, I can see how that would ultimately lead to a feeling of discontent and listlessness.

However; my sympathy also extends naturally to his wife and children. Just like him, they were forced into a situation they also had little choice in. Kokushibo's wife was arranged to him, just as he was to her. The children didn't ask to be born. In the panel depicting Kokushibo leaving, it's easy to tell that they did love him. His wife looks devastated while his eldest tries to run after him, reaching out to grab his leg or his hand to keep him from leaving.

I see many discussions surrounding Kokushibo and his feelings towards his family, but ultimately I feel the situation is more complicated than one or the other. I don't think he hated them, nor do I think he truly loved them. He felt shackled, perhaps even resentful of his circumstances, but he did ultimately express regret at having abandoned them.

Kokushibo likely had more complicated feelings, perhaps more than he understood or was willing to admit. Having two children with a woman, one who was visibly devastated by his departure, and having his eldest child try to stop him from leaving seems to me like a pretty good indicator that, while he was with them, Kokushibo was a fairly good husband and father.

They loved him. I think Kokushibo had at least some fondness for them, too. Not enough to stay, not enough to consider his wife his "true love", but enough to treat them kindly while he was with them and to feel regret for his actions upon his death.

I do find myself wondering how his wife and children coped after his death. Financially they were probably fine, but emotionally is another thing. His wife probably had to live with the knowledge that the man she loved, or at least tried to love, didn't return the feelings. At least, not enough to prevent the final outcome.

His eldest would grow up with bittersweet memories and confused feelings. He would remember the excitement he'd felt when he was small and his father came back from his most recent mission, or the memories of Kokushibo holding him or promising to teach him how to wield a sword, all of that muddied by the pain and resentment of being left behind, of hearing his mother crying in despair.

His youngest would forever have a void in his heart. Never having had memories of his father, but longing to have known him and subsequently feeling guilty for longing for the man who abandoned them. Did they ever ask their mother or elder brother, or were they too scared to prod at old wounds?

Did they ever fully pick up the pieces? Did Kokushibo ever think of them, as a Slayer or as a Demon? I suppose we'll never know.

As you explain your dreams in details, he's just even more confused and his face says it all.

Yet he listens, never laughs nor shames you.

He's very much skeptical and doesn't really know what to do or say but somehow you piqued his interest.

It's his first time having someone approach him that way and it makes him feel new things.

You trailing after him would make him feel both awkward and secretly… wanted.

He realizes you're not going to leave his side so soon so he resumes trying to get to know you.

Soon enough you'll notice him standing a little closer or letting you walk beside him instead of trailing.

It's awkward at first and a bit weird in his mind but oh once he saw the real you ,outside all the wedding dreams stuff, he fell hard.

And that laugh... gurlll trust me he definitly felt those butterflies in that tummy of his.

Once the idea of it finally sinks in his head, he’d laugh loudly and start saying things like, "My wife would certainly not like that!"

He would genuinely start believing it was destiny.

He's in love.

In love with your humor, your voice, your silly dreams and his only wish is to get to know you even more.

Deep inside he's a bit embarressed and flustered but he tries his best to appear neutral in front of you.

He's confused yet flattered.

He considers your story being true and takes your words seriously.

You'll notice how he slows his steps so you can walk beside him, or when you'll catch him adjust his pace to yours.

And then it just hits, the way he accidentally (he genuinely doesn't realize it ) stares too long, or the way his voice softens when he says your name. His body relaxing in your presence more each day.

Deadpan.

But listens.

He doesn't say anything at first, just listens.

Trying to put the pieces together, wondering if you're just a crazy human or if what seems like gibberish to him actually has a part of truth in it.

"I myself, never had such dreams. I think you're mistaken. It's brave of you to have come that far to tell me so."

Seeing you trail after him, at first he’d try to scare you off with harsh words and sharp glares.

He realized soon enough it wasn't working on you so he resumed trying to lose you.

"...!?" is his reaction everytime you appear before him when he thought he finally lost you.

But the longer you keep showing up, the more unsettled he gets, because you’re not afraid of him, you just don’t flinch.

That persistence starts to plant seeds in him...like maybe you do see something in him he thought was long dead.

You'll start to feel his eyes on you more than often, only to look up and see him looking elsewhere. (that man is FAST.)

But deep down he’s unsettled.

He doesn’t feel things normally, so why does your sincerity linger in his head still?

He begins to cling.

He becomes protective and possessive, not wanting to lose this new warmth you’re giving him.

He’ll realize he doesn’t just enjoy the game, he wants it to be real.

And he would never admit it but it makes him feel wanted. Truly wanted.

Then the realization hits: your certainty doesn't annoy him anymore. He needs it. He needs you.

The moment you asked him he stiffened.

Blinked with all of his six eyes, staring down at you.

He says nothing at first. Just watches. The idea seems… beneath him. But he doesn’t stop you. Not because he agrees but because he’s curious somehow.

His body is a map of centuries: scars, curse marks, muscle, regrets.

"This body… is not meant for such softness."

You paint a moonlit landscape across his torso with night blues and silver

Delicate wisteria vines wrapping around old scars like strong yet soft lianas, defying the demonic symbolism with purity.

He's calm, almost unbothered. But his stare, oh trust me you definitely feel it. Six piercing eyes locked on your hand.

He's not even trying to intimidate you or preasure you, he's just genuinely analyzing every strokes and your hand movements.

He sees beauty in your painting, the way your hand moves, the paint like a soothing balm over his scars.

He watches every brushstroke with surgical precision. Like he’s memorizing something forbidden. As if one blink could erase it all.

He's learning.

When you’re done, he says nothing. But he doesn’t move either.

Just… stares.

His hand hovers over the painted pattern, but he doesn’t touch it. Not yet.

"I will… remember this... This… was not wasted."

Offers you a bow at the end, perhaps old-fashioned indeed but to him it means everything. (we love a respectful man...👀)

You reassure him it’s just watercolors, soft, temporary. No pressure.

You paint koi fish swimming across his torso and up his shoulder, their golden tails looping between his scars.

"...Are you sure?" he asks quietly, eyes lowered but craving to lock onto yours, barely above a whisper.

"This body… I don’t think it deserves beauty."

You feign ignorance, acting as if you didn't hear, letting your paintbrush prove him otherwise.

He's still. NO BUT LIKE HARD-ROCK STILL.

His eyes never leaving the beautiful canva you're painting, it's almost funny how his eyes follow so accutely the brush.

As time passes, he relax more and more, his shoulders drop, his gaze softens.

As if your canva, not yet finished, already bewitched him. Feeling like he can't look away even if he wanted to.

Once you're done and he sees what you painted — something in him breaks a little. But the good kind of break, seeing serene waves across his chest and gentle birds resting near old wounds.

"…It's beautiful," he admits, earnest gaze scanning the artwork as if it was peace itself.

Then quieter, : "Thank you."

Later, when no one's around, he touches the dried paint like it’s something sacred.

And oh he's not gonna wash it off so soon trust me.

He felt seen.

"You want to what !?"

He would be so confused. Like… why? Why would anyone want to beautify him, especially when he sees himself as tainted by violence and regret.

His body is all sharp muscle and old pain, and yet when your brush touches his skin, it’s so gentle that he nearly forgets how to breathe.

You paint blooming chrysanthemums over his chest, the symbol of perseverance.

He stands still, staring down at the soft pink petals with red hues adorning his old scars. Old battles.

He would keep looking between you and the painting. Too bad he can't stare at two beautiful things at the same time, so he keeps going back and fourth.

Your concentration really touches him. Seeing that you're not doing it out of pity but out of love, out of will.

He would twitch at times or jump a little, before offer a small smile muttering a "Sorry..."

He's a fighter. He's not used to being touched so gently and softly like that, so his body reacts with instinct.

Once you're done, he stands there in silence.

You expect him to laugh it off or flex dramatically.

But instead… his breath catches.

"No one’s ever looked at me like this. It's perfect...thank you."

He would often found himself drifting back to that moment, quietly wondering what you saw in him that made you want to paint him with such care.

"Don’t wash it off yet. Just for a while, let me keep it."

He felt seen.

“HUH?” was his very first reaction when you asked.

He flinches when the brush first touches him, then goes still.

Unlike others he doesn't really focus on the beautiful work you're doing on his torso, he's actually watching you.

Watching you because you're the prettiest when you're focused.

Watching you because your gaze translates how much will you're pouring into it.

Watching you to ground himself.

Until your eyes lock for a second, making him twitch and nearly jump in his seat. Accusing the paintbrush when you're so gentle with it he barely feels it.

"Well it's not my fault that damn paintbrush tickles!"

And now he's blushing, avoiding your gaze...

You start painting wildflowers on his torso, the flowers who's roots are tangled, mangled, torn, sometimes broken but strong.

Once he sees the result he freezes. Like in trance, the words getting stuck in his throat.

Seeing his numerous battle scars, so painful, so full of old rage and regrets in a new light feels...refreshing. Like a new him.

"That's...that's simply... beauti- Great! Y..yeah you did great, it's not too bad ig."

He doesn't say anything more. But later, he pulls up his shirt just to stare at it in private when you're not watching.

He wouldn't show it off.

He treasures it like a precious gift from you.

"Hey umm you know, thank you for the painting earlier...when it dries off can you do it again ? Not now of course just some other days when I'll feel like it you know...".

He didn't know softness could feel like this too.

He felt seen.

Despite the scowl, he never steps back. His arms twitch like they want to hold you. But they never do. Not yet.

He's like a golden retriever, always ready for your little stunts and never gets tired of them.

He doesn't really know how to return that much energy at first, he's used to being calm and composed so having an energetic s/o like this completely shatters that part of him.

Not because it was painful but because never in centuries someone had done that to him EVER.

He's sooo touch starved but has no idea know how to initiate, so deep down he's very thankful that you're the one initiating it.

Sometimes when you go under his radar and manage to "surprise" him, all six eyes blink slowly, staring down at you.

You're both biting each other now and he clings to you any chance he gets.

But deep inside… that affection means everything. He never had love like this.

His body just naturally tenses at any contact after being so conditioned to react quickly if any fights were to occur.

You would bite his cheek softly and giggle. And he doesn’t react. Not at first. Until he exhales and whispers, (more to himself) "You’re dangerous…"

Not because of your strength, but because of how easy it is for him to let his guard down around you.

Over time, he starts seeking it.

And he'll start living for it. He acts like he’s unfazed but he adores how affectionately feral you are.

Like you could literally lunch yourself at him and he would catch you like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

And if you ever stop being aggressively affectionate — if you go quiet one day, that’s when you’ll realize how much he craves it.

"Hey. Bite me or something. I’m starting to think you’re mad at me..."

He literally glitches like Muzan but worse. Affection?? For him???

If you bite his hand or cheek teasingly, he stares like you just unlocked a secret part of him.

"Wh...what are you doin’? Stop that! …No wait… don’t ?"

He thinks you’re making fun of him at first.

But when you kiss his scars like they're the most beautiful piece of art or call him cute names, he just melts.

Understanding that what you're showing him is just pure energetic affection and not mocking in any way, just a new kind of affection he never had access to before.

He would look away and blush at every cheek kiss or bites, feigning annoyance, muttering under his breath as if he wasn't craving it.

At first, he wouldn't know how to say thank you or reciprocate this aggressive affection.

So he would let you do it again. And again. Until it feels safe.

He eventually starts biting you back, but gently of course he's quite aware of his fangs ( *cough* not like a certain cult president) and playfully. His excuse ?

"Well YOU started it..."

Kokushibo was the best companion you could ever wish for, under his stoic mask and cold personality, indoors, he was the most loving person you had ever seen. You had the chance to witness things that none of the other fellow moons and Muzan even got to catch a glimpse of. Yet something was amiss.... the way he looks at you , the way his six spider-like eyes gently fall upon you at the slightest movements of yours. The way he held you like you were pure crystal, as if, if held too tight you could crumble under his palms. He had this way of making your heart beat. With him, life felt easy, secure, calm if not magical. His kisses like petals, his touch so tender yet firm and needy, that's all you could ever dream of and oh gosh his smile...but so then..why did he seem so against intimacy ? Or at least that's what you thought. You both had been seeing each other for quite the years already, so why is he so...reluctant abt it ? Perhaps unsure would be the word. He never said it out loud, but it showed subtly : whenever a body part of yours showed he'd be the first to notice ,no matter how small and cover it at the speed of light. He would always redirect conversations whenever the topic hints to explicit matters, he would deny you showering together repeating that you need your privacy and he shall give it to you, always finding excuses over excuses, but at what cost ? All you wanted was to pass the gap, to be closer both emotionally and physically to your forever lover. You wanted to feel that love , feel him pour his love in the closest way two persons could ever be, you wanted to hear him say sweet nothings as you two were beautifuly intertwined in each other presence and love. You wanted to touch , to feel , to try...You never straight out asked him for intimacy, perhaps you were unsure too, abt his reaction or thoughts about it , perhaps scared that all the love will go away. Does he find it gross ? Perhaps demons don't engage in those activities ? Yet silly of you to never have tried to ask, not even once...until today :

It was a calm afternoon, both of you were in your quarters inside the Infinite Castle, though your chambers were quite isolated from the rest of the apartments : a secluded place of serenity and away from the cruel demon world that lurked in the shadows. Being human , Kokushibo protects you with every fiber of his being , meaning he doesn't want you to be any close to demon activities. But there you were , sharing the same bed, Kokushibo was reading next to you, his six ethereal eyes seeming to dance across the pages of whatever ancient book he was reading. You looked up at him, your mind still spiraling about his constant "denial" of intimacy. As your eyes locked. You didn't have to say anything, he knew, he knows, he sees it in your eyes, something is wrong. His eyes always did that thing, slowly squinting at you as if silently saying "What's wrong ?", yet it was also his way of simply studying you, you were used to it by now.

"I'm okay..just thinking" , you replied, knowing no matter how many words came out of your mouth, he always sees right through you.

"No. You're clearly not, you seem uneasy. What is it you're thinking about ?" , he says, as his eyes peer into yours now. He scooted almost imperceptibly closer to you, his attention now solely on you.

Yet you remained silent. You were scared, unsure, overthinking, what if he never sees you the same way after asking what has been bothering you ? Seeing your panic, he didn't hesitate and immediately, gently placed you on his lap, holding you securely in his arms, gently rearranging himself for your comfort. He was gently patting your back, his eyes never leaving your face, your eyes to be more precised, eyes are the portal to the soul : this way he could know what were you truly thinking of and read through you. He started gently combing your hair, never once breaking eye contact still. A gentle kiss to your temple and here you were giving yourself out , the intensity of your emotions just made you blurt it out, no filter, no sugarcoating :

" W..WHY DON'T YOU WANT INTIMACY WITH ME HUH!!! Am I not desirable enough ? Do I..do I not please you enough ? Why..then why you-" No, he didn't cut you off, you cut yourself off, seeing his reaction. His hand gently caressing you back had already stopped moving long ago, his eyes were widened, his body stiff, his face like a deer caught in deer lights. A small tint of blush peppering his cheeks yet it disappeared the moment you spotted it. The scene was quite humoristic and you would probably be laughing your ass off if the situation wasn't that serious at the moment lol.

"Y..You want intimacy from me..?" , he was shocked by himself, shocked by this revelation and did he just..stutter ? His heart did like a whole 360, if it wasn't for his image he wouldn't be fighting against his own body trying not to blush. He tried to process your words, but there he was just looking at you with widened eyes, oh dear how can a man be this clueless , were the hints not hinting enough ?

All you could do was shyly nod, you couldn't bring yourself to say another word. He was baffled, as if he had just heard the date of the end of the world. This state of shock lasted so long it felt like forever.

"I...w..why ?" he said while looking away, his eyes shyly darting to the side. Was the man in front of you really the Supreme Moon ? His shy side was more than endearing , you didn't see it often, but whenever it did happen it was the cutest thing ever.

"What do you mean..why ? I don't know why..I just..that's how it is okay ? Is it not what couples do ? Is it not another way to show..our love...?" That line hit him like a truck, of course it was, and he knew it. In fact he had always been wanting it, no craving it even. Showering you with his love, being as close as possible, feel your skin close to his, he wanted it all, so why..?

"I..do too. Very much at that.." , he stopped himself, realizing how needy his words sounded. He quickly looked back in your eyes before shyly looking away again as if intimidate by your gaze now, or perhaps embarrassed by his own whole new love struck behavior. He sighed, resigned to be honest, eyes locked back on yours with a newfound determination in them :

""I love you, adore you even..I don't have the words to describe what I feel for you, it goes beyond words. he gently put his hands on your hips, stabilizing you and him, grounding himself in. You're more than desirable, more than beautiful. I apologize for my foolishness, for being scared, for not knowing how to communicate how much I wanted that..closeness..too. The truth is... I'm afraid, afraid of hurting you, not doing it right... not loving you right. Afraid of not being enough to please you. I am demon yet... I just can't stop loving you, and the last thing I desire is for that love of mine to overwhelm you. So only if..only if it's not too late, may I..""

Your breath hitched, how cruel of him to not let you process his words first, how cruel of him to have that angel carved-like face, these earnest eyes that felt like the moon itself looking at you... no he didn't let you process it all, not before he finally asked :

"May I..make love to you, tonight ? Will you let me ? Will you let me love you properly ?" , his heart was beating so fast, his body stiff as if bracing himself for the most outrageous denial or any sign of repulse from you.

"You may..."

He gently lowered you down on the bed, both of your hearts beating uncontrollably, both unsure, yet both deeply in love with each other.

He climbed on top of you, careful not to crush you, but close enough your lips were centimeters away from each other. One kiss. Two kisses. A third one and here you were, your legs already curling around his sides which made his hips stutter for a moment as he just started almost imperceptibly grinding against you, slowly, gently but most of all with love. He poured all his love into those kisses, between each, there you were smiling to each other. Sometimes nervous laughs would slip in before making out again, it wasn't rough nor brutal, it was gentle, tentative and sensual.

The night had fallen already, the moon casting its glow through the window as if winking at this beautiful union. Candles were lighted, the atmosphere - romantic , the clothes - off already. It was the first time seeing each other bodies bare and your heart stuttered and his too. Your touches were tentative at first, muscles twitching at every touch, gentle caresses to ease both your hearts. He was really careful and attune to every of your facial expressions , at the smallest twitch of eyebrow he would stop all movements, silently ask for permission over and over again to make sure you were comfortable and enjoying it as much as he was.

"Beautiful...you're simply beautiful" he said in awe, his eyes seeming hypnotized by the sight before him. He was gentle with his caresses gently kissing your lips, your cheeks, your neck all while gently rubbing against you, careful not to go too fast too soon. He would gently caress your body at every shiver of yours, reassuring you that no matter how far you've gone, you can stop it all at any moment.

Then with a last gentle loving kiss, he discovered your world, careful not to shatter it. You gasped. He gasped. Both of you paused. Tears rolled down, but not from pain, but from joy , from reunion. The slight discomfort was there yes, but the love overpowered it all. You two looked like a silly mess, crying at how pure and loving it felt, you exchanged kisses, pressed against each other. He whispered sweet nothings to you, his voice barely audible from that overwhelming yet beautiful love he felt for you at this moment. He held you securely in his arms and just when you gave him the green light , there he was gently thrusting into you , each thrusts with a bit more love every time. His sounds , your sounds , his love , your love , his body , yours...all of it were intertwined in that very moment and neither of you wished for it to stop.

Kokushibo was speechless at first and couldn't quite believe that his s/o was stronger than him, let alone taller.

He didn't feel threatened one bit by it, at first, yet it was quite... well, disturbing in his eyes.

He was used to being the one and almighty Upper Moon One, the Supreme Moon at that. Strength was his pride, so having his s/o not needing his help in that area made him feel like he wasn't really useful in the relationship.

He would try to help you lift things or assist you with any tasks but it always led to uncomfy and awkward situations like this :

"Wait, let me help you with that-.. *you lifting the furniture with ease*

I see.. I shall not interfere then.."

Although he tried to hide it , after some time, it started to gnaw at him and his pride got slightly wounded.

You needed to shake that unfliching demeanor out of him ! To shatter that mask he seemed to have and break through his stoic facade ! But.. you had to start small. You didn't know yet how he might react after all..

As Kokushibo was doing his usual reading on your shared bed , you gently settled in bed next to him.

He stared down at you for a moment , acknowledging your presence, then gently almost impercetibly shyly scooting closer to you (hes just such a cutieeee ahhh) , raising a single eyebrow as if silently asking you "What is it ?" You simply shook your head as if saying "Nothing.." , from that moment Kokushibo already knew that something was up with you, but couldn't quite pinpoint what , perhaps it was that smug and mischevious smile that seemed to twitch at the corners of your mouth or... his simple intuition.

Poke.

Kokushibo's eyes widen slowly as if processing what just happened to him. As he blinks slowly before slowly turning his head to stare at you , a dumbfounded expression on his face as you just poked his cheek .(Ik his lower eyes take most of the place but let's just imagine he got cheeks for that one lol)

"What....is it ?" he asks almost nervously yet still with that unflinching demeanor and gravelly voice.

"Nothing..." you answered , the smug look never leaving your face.

Kokushibo's eyes slightly narrowed at you, not in a threatening way but in a curious way , as if trying to understand what were your true intentions and thoughts at the moment. But after some time of simply staring at you he resumes his reading , while you can still feel him briefly side-eyeing you from time to time to see what you're up to. His reading time was definietly disturbed now , his six eyes flickering across the words but without really acknowledging them , his focus was now unconciously devoted to you.

Your husband nearly flinched at that , genuinely sensing that something was off this time, but poor him is not really good with communication. Are you sick ? Feeling unwell ? Is he not giving you enough attention , is that why ? Has he been distant ? he thought..

"D..do you wish to read with me ? Why are you touching me like that..?" he was not annoyed nor mad in the slightest at the moment. (not yet..) He was just curious as to why you were acting like that.

"Umm..no I'm okay" you said completely ignoring his second inquiry , as you got up from bed , now going back and forth in the room doing whatever , you wouldn't sit still : one moment you were at the window. And the next in bathroom , some seconds later here you were putting on TV....Kokushibo liked calmness and when things were steady , neat and silent and you knew it quite well . However, he couldn't help but follow your every movements , every places you kept running to and it started to overwhelm in a way. Why on earth are you moving around so much ? he thought. He tried , tried , tried really hard to focus back on his book but the words were getting tangled , each sentances seeming now blurred together , it's like the book was mocking his centuries-honed resolve and concentration he menaged to master.

Although you didn't stop there...you were now playing loud music and pacing in the room loudly , doing as much noise as you could when finally... ──── silence ────

The music was shut down. The lights flickering as if threatening to go out, the cold breeze invinting itself by the open window making you shiver , you didn't have the time to look at the scene behind you , no... actually you didn't need to...you could sense it now...he was definietly mad now..

Before you could react , you're suddenly pulled down on the mattress in a swift movement ,it was so quick you didn't even quite understood what had happened. Your husband , caging you in with his body as he hovers over you , his face was so close to yours , your lips only inches away. The movement was swift yes but not harsh he was gently holding you in place by the forearms , his grip was firm but not tight. He was always like that , handling you as if you were precious porcelain , as if his touch, if too tight could shatter you in millions of pieces. That gentleness , he conveyed it in his touch.. even if he was clearly upset at the moment or perharps frustrated would be the word.. You could feel his breath tickling your face while he stared down at you with his eyes narrowed ,this time darkened with slight irritation. His brows were furrowed but in his eyes , you could still see it , that softness that only seems to glim in his eyes whenever he looks at you , he could never be truly upset with you.

"What. is. the.Meaning Of. This... ?" he said his voice coming out with that little irritated edge but still soft enough to not scare you away completely. It wasn't his intention anyway , because deep down he was just genuinely confused.

Hmm well... now how do you explain to your centuries old husband from a complete different and distant era what a prank is..?

🧸ིྀ Since Kokushibo was a samurai, he has insanely beautiful handwriting. But here’s the thing—he’s too awkward to openly say sweet things to you. So instead? He subtly writes them down in perfect, elegant calligraphy… but never actually gives them to you.

He has a whole hidden collection of little notes like:

"Your presence brings an odd sense of tranquility I do not fully understand."

"I do not wish for you to see me as a monster. Only as a man."

"If I had met you in my human days, I would have wished to court you properly."

If you ever find them? He’ll freeze for some moment before simply walking away out of embarrassment.
