Plant! Repotting!!

LETS GOOO

Today we are repotting my recent acquisition- Bart Kandy, a bush on fire Croton!

One of those plants where I saw her colors and just kind of went insane. She's been resting in her nursery pot for a little over a week now, and has been doing well! So now we're gonna switch her over to her new home :)

To start, the pot I have for her doesn't have a drainage hole, but it is unglazed! So bottom watering will be a must. To help mitigate the effects of possible over watering in the future (I'm pretty careful but you never know) I sterilized some leca and put about an inch layer of it at the bottom.

My hope with this is to create a sort of well for water to wait in, instead of being submerged in soil at the bottom which could cause root rot.

Here's my "work station" (kitchen floor)

My plan for her soil was high drainage since again, no bottom hole.

What I ended up with was majority coco coir, with some cactus soil, extra perlite, and a small amount of organic gardening soil. I also wet the soil before potting it to help with structure as the plant gets accustomed and even hydration for the roots to reach out to!

Then I took Miss Bart from her previous pot and shook out most of the extra soil from around the roots!

She was mostly root bound around the bottom, and I think she may have been planted too deeply because she had leaves submerged in soil.

And then after all that Miss Bart Kandy was brought back to her home by the window to enjoy the rest of this (rather cloudy) day!

Welcoming Pepperoni Pete to my family!

This handsome guy is a cutting impulsively taken from my friends red log pepperomia while they were moving.

I only had what soil they had available and an old pudding jar.

I let mr Pete stay in a window while I was visiting, then transported him back in my car, I genuinely wasn't sure how he'd handle it all but he actually managed to grow some roots in the course of just a few days!

So when we got home, I took him out of the placeholder soil (not aerated enough and since the jar I have him in cant drain easily I knew I needed a different option)

I cleaned some perlite (shockingly rice Krispy treat esq) and set him up to grow out his roots before I repot him!

Here's hoping our little guy thrives!

Dana 2 (he/him) update!

While watering him today I went to lift up his longest "leg" and wouldn't you know it! It straight up broke off in my hands

Now while it was shocking, thankfully transcendentia zebrina is a very easy propagator, and I was meaning to trim some legs to give to my friend Tia for a while now but hadn't found the energy (aka got scared I was going to kill everything I touched)

But this felt very fortuitous! If my fear was holding me back then fate had other plans!

So I snapped off another leggy branch, broke the long leg in half, then cleared off the last three leaves to make some room to put the branch into soil.

I also did a standard (for me) mix of organic potting soil and coconut core (~1:1) with a healthy dollop of perlite, damped all of that then placed everything into a terracotta planter I had lying around!

Now let's all hope they take root and I will have a nice house warming gift for my friend :) 🙏

Good morning!

Today's plant update is about my beautiful satin Pothos cuttings, gifted from my coworker and named Otto!

Now Otto is gonna be my other semi hydro set up when I finally find a good cup to make into a net cup.

But I've also been putting it off until he had a more robust root system since he only had a couple kind of scraggly water roots.

However!! Since adding a drop of fertilizer to his water when I refreshed him last, he's made some leaps and bounds in the root department!

All those light colored roots are, as far as I can tell from my own memory, only about 1-2 weeks old!!

Which is great for me! I think with this kind of growth I should be good to have him in his semi hydro set up within this month! Then I'll be praying he puts out some bigger leaves 🙏

ROOT BEER ROBYN!!!

Long roots! Ready for the semi hydro set up I got for them!

Stabbed a cup, don't pay for net cups when you can spend an excruciating hour stabbing a diner chai cup because your glue gun doesn't get hot enough to melt through

Boil the clay leca balls, then bake in the oven to dry!

Proceed to fill the stein about 1/3 of the way up, put the Pothos in the net cup with the Leca, and then place in the filled stein!!

And that's it!! Oh there's also some mild fertilizer in the water. Now let's all keep Robyn in our prayers that they take to the new set up 🙏

Welcome back creatures and ghouls, today we are talking about repotting 2 beautiful babies, Simone and Maddy!!

Now Simone my lovely Christmas cactus has been going through it potting wise, as my dad did a,,, unique job of repotting her some years ago. But now that she's mine I couldn't let that mean lean stand!!

So firstly I started mixing up some soil:

Now my mix for this was pretty loosey goosey but generally speaking it was 2:1 orchid mix and potting soil with an extra helping of perlite just cause

Mixed that in then laid down a good layer, then I pulled my sweet Simone from her previous pot, knocked some of the compacted dirt from her roots and put into the new pot!

Look at her!! Still a little lopsided since she's been growing like that for a while, but I think she'll even put given some time :)

And then a much less dire potting: Maddy!

Here she is in her cutting jar, she already had pretty decent roots so I didn't feel I had to let her prop further.

So I soaked her moss pole and gave her a similar mix to Simone (with a little more potting soil)

And with a little thread to tether her to the pole she's good to go!!

New family members time!!

My coworker gave me some props today and I'm hype as hell

First off is Elise the pink princess philodendron!! I'm letting her roots grow out a little more then I'm gonna get her set up with a nice moss pole :)

Next is Maddy the mini monstera! Her roots are pretty good so I'm picking up a new pot for her tomorrow (and also a moss pole)

Stella the Hoya curtisii!! Based on my research she's going to be the most temperamental of my new friends but I'm hopeful I can handle her 💪

Next up is Sarah the moonlight snake plant, I thankfully had one little pot to spare so she's chilling in there for now :)

And finally it's Otto the Satin Pothos! I'm very excited for this pretty fellow to fill out!

Welcome back!

Just a few updates on some new growth from the guys!

Albert is putting out a new leaf/stem situation and he's got a couple more that aren't as far along but are coming!

Then Robyn our Pothos cuttings roots are really coming along! Every cutting has roots coming from it and a bunch are around 1/2 inch or a little over :)c

And Simone!! Since I moved her out of direct sunlight and began misting her regularly, a bunch of these cute little nubbins started growing!!

Updates!!

Albert has two new points of growth!!! One further along guy near the base and one a little higher up thats just a nubbin :)

It's been humid lately so only Dana and Albert got their pot baths!

Our marimos hastur and ligur also got their water changed out today!

And last but certainly not least for this update!!

Diego who almost perished during our move has- about a month and a half post repotting/trimming dead sections- really bounced back!!

Today it's rainy out so the succ boys (Pierre and Roberto) are going into the light cube whilst their siblings Albert and Simone catch some rays.

Also Albert started crying today!! I follow a lot of plant reddits because I'm trying really hard to keep these fuckers alive and thriving (yes I know Simone needs to be repotted) and apparently tropical adjacent plants "cry" to expel excess moisture and it means he's appropriately watered!!
