i love making OCs cus one thing thats so fun to me is that like. they all exist in the same story. like i have my protagonists, i have alfredo as the courier or leon as the lone wanderer, but it’s just so satisfying to me to be able to imagine all these different other people still existing as the events are happening. their lives, their stories are still playing out as the events of the games are going on around them. i just like filling out the world more. i think i referred to it before as like “untold stories of the wasteland” but that’s exactly it. it’s why i don’t have multiple couriers or LWs or soles cus it’s like. that role is already filled. how are these other ppl dealing with what they’re doing.

i would eventually like to do more prewar bunny stuff and in particular think it might be fun to examine her interactions w house more. she’s had her share of exchanges w him and i wouldn’t be surprised at all if she turned down a date from him but shes 100% aware of his. eccentricities. i just love prewar bunny i have so many thoughts on her career and that whole part of her life.

I just moved back to school and spent 2 days unpacking, so on that note... would Bunny ever move out of the Commonwealth? like she works really hard to create a community but she also never really liked Massachusetts right?

i hope move-in went smoothly and you have a good semester! :) i’m just looking forward to cooler weather finally🍂

ig it really becomes a matter of perspective. she wanted to leave massachusetts so badly back then bc it ended up representing something she wasn’t, something that wasn’t hers. she couldn’t make it anything of her own bc it was just. what nate wanted. but then the world ends, and she starts building this community and she realizes she’s able to make it a home. she hated massachusetts back then bc it became nothing but unhappy memories, feeling scrutinized and burnt out. she was lonely. but what she’s helped make now? the ppl she’s met and formed this community with? she wouldn’t trade it for the world. maybe the location isn’t her first choice but bunny santos is nothing if not adaptable.

all that said tho she won’t lie she hates the weather of the commonwealth. radstorms sure fine whatever but the snow? the cold? the sun setting at like 3PM? omg. she tells deacon once the kids are grown the two of them are taking a trip back to cali.

It might just be how the games are framed

1 and 2 you needed to find an object to save your family and stop a big bad

3 and 4 you needed to find a missing person and stop a big bad

New Vegas doesn't give the Courier a backstory or a motive besides kill the guy who tried to kill you and which makes him (because this specific version is always some alpha bro lmao) edgier to the gamer audience.

The game also puts the ncr armor front and center from the very beginning. Even before the game released they had the armor prominently in the trailer. Not even just the default silhouette in the vault suit like all the other games have.

It was a departure and certainly fun to play but it quickly became the fandom's version of not like other girls. Not like other game protagonists

But now a good decade after release it just serves to put the Courier as a concept into this edgelord murder hobo box where they're either putting a bullet in Benny's brain or sleeping with the man or both

hi! i definitely won’t deny that the framing of things influences it, especially w an objective as grim as “find the man who killed you” paired with the blank slate of the courier, but it still just ends up leaving me scratching my head. cus like. that’s part of what made fnv so good. you can be whoever getting involved in this complex story against the backdrop of a looming war. but we’re still beating the same jokes to death a decade and a half later? like i know full well everything you’re saying, ig i just personally can’t wrap my head around that part specifically. i just want something new! how are ppl not bored of that! i like seeing ppl’s couriers cus it’s so open-ended. so i just kinda go oh ok :| when given that same chaotic ranger guy again. that’s just not fun or funny to me.

and i 100% realize whatever i say is just gonna make me sound so annoying and pretentious or whatever and it’s also like omg it’s a 15 year old game who gaf but like. idk! part of why i play RPGs in the first place is to make characters. i love making OCs i love examining what they’d do/how they’d feel when put into certain situations or settings, and fnv is such an incredible story to do that with. it’s fun to mess around in, absolutely, but it’s also just as fun (even more imo) to actually take it seriously and reflect on how your courier deals with everything. i think now more than ever it’s good to more earnestly engage with and examine art, and games are no different. and while fnv still has A LOT of issues, certain aspects of it are still relevant and worth exploring. and using the courier as a means to do that is worthwhile.

ig ultimately i just get a bit concerned that we still seem to be beating old jokes to death. we gotta move on. is it too much to ask if we can be a lil more sincere these days

actually re: my post from earlier abt the courier. where did that characterization even come from like in all my years i’ve never viewed the base courier character that way like i genuinely just do not get it.

someone needs deacon for something while he’s playing w dawn so he just picks up the toy phone like “sorry i gotta take this” and has an extended pretend phone convo til they just give up and leave

i feel like theres no way to word this without sounding mean but like i think another reason why i can never view the default NCR ranger helmet courier as my courier is cus the like. personality(?) that so many ppl have just randomly assigned to Courier Six is not reflective of alfredo at all.

hi hi hi thank u for noticing my ask and yes hudson is former har harbour chapter coa. he's a runaway/lowkey got kicked out and in my mind the other far harbour companion <3 his companion quest involves encouraging him to either totally abandon the cults ideals/choose self improvement or dig his heels in about them/fuck up his mental state even more (kind of like boone)

i can imagine he does NAWT like other companions cause of how intense the cults indoctrination was especially if the player makes him become super devoted to atom do u feel me

that’s so interesting! a CoA-affiliated or just generally associated companion would’ve been fun to see imo, they’re a group who could’ve used more development than what we got (granted i’ve never sided w them in a playthrough but still).

i always love to see ppl make companion stuff for their OCs i’ve been meaning to do the same w mine LOL! that’s interesting tho and i can definitely imagine there’s a lot of friction between him and the other companions. hopefully he can make some friends. eventually.

omg!!! he’s so cool i love his design!🩵 i was just thinking the other day maybe i should make a CoA/affiliated OC some time since i’ve never done a playthrough associated w them. was he part of the commonwealth/far harbor chapters or is he from the capital wasteland? is he hoping to destroy them or does he just wanna get away from it all?
