For just one second, look at your life and see how perfect it is. Stop looking for the next secret door that is going to lead you to your real life. Stop waiting. This is it: there’s nothing else. It’s here, and you’d better decide to enjoy it or you’re going to be miserable wherever you go, for the rest of your life, forever.
Lev Grossman, The Magicians (via the-book-diaries)

think of the immigrants and the refugees. they work so hard to be smuggled across a border, in the most dangerous ways, barely surviving, some of them never even make it; dreaming of a better life, caught to an idea of a wonderful place. and then they’re under a different kind of indentured servitude, having to pay back all of the smugglers’ exorbitant rates. then they’re discriminated against for their skin, culture, race, language. it’s difficult for them to get hired due to the discrimination so when they do get a job, it’s illegal, unsafe, paid way under the minimum wage. they suffer and suffer and suffer the rest of their lives, working to pay the debt of the wonderland that was just a facade. it might’ve been paradise, but not to them, oh no, just to the ones who originated from the land.
this was the so-called paradise they were told and sold of?

i know what this means, sometimes i get too tired of thinking and being around people and voices even under quarantine because they exist in memories in my head, they exist in pictures, and books, everywhere, really.
