Chiaki Nanami was steepling her fingers, looking over at the boys in front of her with grave eyes. Despite this absolutely serious matter, she couldn’t but grimace at the gravel attacking her skirt from where she sat on the bench. It was not very clean, on account of being well, outside. Nagito was leaning on the edge of it, fully on the ground with his arms simply propped up next to her. Chiaki had no clue how this position could be comfortable, but he looked quite relaxed, his head laying on his arms as he stared at her with focused and adoring eyes. Hajime was stabbing at his food in frustration, sitting on the other side of her as he tried to put his bento between his legs on the bench, using it as a table. He almost looked like he’d fall off of it.

“This isn’t a meeting, Nanami,” he denied. “I’m just trying to eat lunch. You guys are just the bugs that show up and bother me.”

In theory, maybe I get the “we’re all just playing with barbies, they’re fictional characters, no interpretation is incorrect because it���s an interpretation” argument. But actually no, not all takes are equally valid. Framing something as an interpretation doesn’t mean it inherently has merit.
